PRAY FOR A MOVE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN SRI LANKA
Dear Gap Standers:
Last January we sent out a prayer focus on Sri Lanka. In it, we included a letter from John Robb of World Vision. Whereas a year ago the Buddhists were attacking Christians (note the news caption: Wave of Violence Batters Christians in Sri Lanka), a year later the nation was hit with literal waves of violence that have killed thousands upon thousands.
On December 4, 2004, at our Firstfruits Service at Glory of Zion Outreach, my brother, Keith Pierce prophesied that Sri Lanka would be before world attention within 30 days, then 60 days, and then 90 days. He also prophesied that the Buddhist temples would be flooded and Buddhist priests would be jumping like grasshoppers to get out of the water. He then went on to say that the Lord would do a strange work to crumble the Buddhist temples from within.
Please pray for a sweeping move of the Holy Spirit across Sri Lanka, and that the Lord Jesus Christ would be enthroned in that nation.
Blessings,

From a Prayer News Alert (PNA) sent out on January 12, 2004, by John Robb:
Dear Friends,
Friends of mine from Sri Lanka have written describing the intensifying attacks against the churches and Christian believers that are being carried out by Buddhist extremists. Please pray for God's protection of His people and for effective resolution of this increasingly threatening situation. Pray that the authorities will clamp down on those responsible.
May such extremists, like the Apostle Paul of old, experience a personal revelation of Christ that turns them into great missionaries of His! Also, in the name of Jesus, let's agree that evil spiritual powers, that are involved in stirring up such violence and destruction, will be bound in the authority that the Lord gives us in united prayer.
Here are two brief reports received today from the Intercessors Network, further describing the situation. Thank you for your prayers.
WAVE OF VIOLENCE BATTERS CHRISTIANS IN SRI LANKA
The first weekend of December saw Christians in Sri Lanka being targeted with at least 12 new incidents of violence. A small group meeting for prayer in Ampegama was assaulted, and a pastor leading the prayer meeting, as well as some of the members, were beaten by assailants.
On December 7, four churches in the Kegalle district were attacked by religiously motivated militants. Belongings were stolen, one church was burned, and church members were beaten. In one church, a mob smashed the building's windows and doors, burned the belongings, and threatened the lives of some church workers who lived there.
On December 9, Buddhist groups held a rally in Embilipitiya. The speakers reportedly said that Christian churches were functioning illegally and should be attacked and smashed. That evening, police prevented an attack on a local Assembly of God Church, but the World Vision office and Catholic church were not spared. Soldiers from a nearby army camp attempted to prevent the Church building from being burned, but were told by the mob to not intervene, claiming they had orders from "higher authorities."
In nearby Udawalawe, the Assembly of God church was besieged by about 30 people who smashed windows and doors, and burned furnishings. The pastor managed to escape unharmed, but the home of another pastor was damaged by stones.
SRI LANKAN PRESIDENT WARNS AGAINST ATTACKING CHRISTIANS
Since the sudden death of one of Sri Lanka's highest ranking Buddhist monks in mid-December, elements within the country are stirring up hatred with wild conspiracy theories; claiming minority Christians as the culprits of his death. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga warned that she would deal firmly with anyone who incites the Buddhist public to attack Christians and their places of religious worship by spreading rumors about the death of Gangodawila Soma Thera, who died suddenly due to a heart attack.
Following intelligence reports that organized groups with political patronage are preparing to incite violence in the coming days, the president summoned high-ranking police officers, including those from the provinces, and instructed them to maintain law and order and deal firmly with any trouble makers. The president appealed to the media to act responsibly and help maintain law and order as well as ethnic and religious harmony in the coming days.

Pray that God will give supernatural wisdom to those Christians in how to respond to any false accusations.
