Subject: [GFA Update] Life of Christ Film... | | | | February 24, 2004 | | | | | | *Update: Life of Christ Film in Asia
Dear Reverend Diaz,
I have just learned from one of our field leaders that a GFA pastor and his church are under severe attack (story below). Please pray with us for this pastor and his flock.
As you likely know, The Passion of the Christ hits theaters this week. Many people have an opportunity to view perhaps the most riveting film ever made on the sacrifice of Christ.
While we certainly pray and hope for revival in this country, we must continue to remember the millions of people in remote Asian villages who have yet to hear about Jesus for the first time.
Through God's provision, native missionaries with Gospel for Asia are reaching their people with Man of Mercy, a film on the life of Jesus that was made in India [pics and info here]. Viewers do not watch this movie in a theater. Rather, missionaries set up the film outdoors, often drawing large crowds of people. As these precious people see the sacrifice of Jesus for the first time, many respond to His love with tears and weeping.
By God's grace, tens of thousands have already become Christians through a Man of Mercy showing. Yet 500,000 villages in India alone still lack even one Gospel witness. Pray these communities are soon reached with the hope of Christ!
For those who've never heard, John Schwartz

Christians in a Rajasthan, India, village are under attack as members of their community wrongfully blame them for the recent death of a Christian named Samuel. Benjamin, the native missionary pastor of the local Believers Church, tried to hold a funeral service for Samuel, only to be stopped by anti-Christians.
The angry mob grabbed Samuel's body for cremation and demanded that Pastor Benjamin raise him back to life, or else they would kill every follower of Christ in the village. They verbally abused Benjamin and the church members who had gathered.
The mob then forcibly took hold of Samuel's brother, also a Christian, and insisted he perform the traditional funeral ritual. The brother was strictly warned he would be killed if he continues attending church. In addition, the anti-Christians told the pastor his worship instruments would be snatched and burned if anyone plays them. Pastor Benjamin's heart is heavy with this news. He does not know what to do and asks for prayer. Pray also for the Lord's comfort and protection for Samuel's brother and the rest of his family.

| | Someone Who Could Help Him - 02/23/04
The door at the doctor’s office slowly swung open, and a weak elderly man began the long walk home. Discouraged, Anait sat down and caught his breath, thinking about the events of the past months. After being sick for so long, after all the treatments making no difference, was there any use trying? He was ready to give up.
Then he remembered the pastor working in his area. Maybe he would know of something—or someone—that could help him. A few days later he visited the nearby church, seeking advice from Pastor Mangal. Anait asked the pastor to visit his home and pray for him. Believing the Lord could heal the ailing man, Pastor Mangal fervently prayed.
What an amazing scene it was! Immediately Anait’s health was restored, his body strengthened and his pain relieved. Anait readily put his trust in Jesus Christ, firmly believing that anyone who could heal him must be the true God.

| | Locked in a Room - 02/19/04
Dano and Prem were locked in a room. For three hours a madman screamed at them, “Deny Jesus! Give up your religion!?BR> Hours before, on the streets of an east Indian village, Dano and Prem passed out Gospel tracts and told people about Jesus. Suddenly a member of a militant anti-Christian group drew out a weapon. He forced the two missionaries into his house and locked them in a room. He would not let them out until they renounced their faith in Christ, he said. When they refused, the man grabbed their bags of Gospel literature, dumped everything on the floor and demanded they trample on it. But the missionaries would not obey, even when the man began to beat them. “Jesus is our Lord,?they said, “and we will not deny Him.?BR> By the grace of God, the man gave up and let them go. Just as they were leaving the village, they met an elderly woman and shared the Gospel with her. She was so touched by the Good News that she received Jesus Christ right there on the roadside. Excited about her salvation, she went home to tell her friends and family. From the witness of that one woman alone, 60 people came to Christ, and a church was born.
Despite opposition and persecution, Dano and Prem didn’t give up. They are just two of 13,500 Gospel for Asia native missionaries who are reaching many for Christ.
