09/13/2005: Comforting the Brokenhearted
With every tract he hands out, every prayer he utters, Kulwant brings comfort to hurting lives.
And Kulwant knows what it's like to grieve and have nowhere to turn.
Kulwant was born into a poor family in Punjab, North India--but was blessed with a mother who dearly loved him. To his deep dismay, his mother was very sickly in his growing up years. Yet despite the pain she suffered daily, this nurturing woman saw that her children were well cared for.
In despair over his wife's critical condition, Kulwant's father spent large sums of money, hoping to secure her healing through medical care. When she only grew weaker as time passed, Kulwant's father was left with no other choice: He finally resorted to selling his business to raise more funds.
Yet nothing availed to save his dear wife--and the family was left to pick up the pieces, to try to somehow make sense out of life without their beloved wife and mother. Kulwant watched as his bereaved father, weighed down with grief, became an alcoholic. Daily life and survival for the family had become almost more painful than they could bear.
But their lives began to change when Kulwant's sister, Sunita, sought help from a godly man who not only counseled her, he also prayed for the whole family and brought them comfort from God's Word. He also invited them to home prayer fellowships.
Through these visits, Kulwant, his sister Sunita, and the rest of the family began to grasp the reality of a God who loved them. Each family member trusted in Christ as Savior.
As Kulwant spent time with the Lord, he sensed His call to missions work. Responding to this special call, he enrolled in a Gospel for Asia Bible college to immerse himself in studying God's Word and learn how to effectively evangelize the unreached. Today, supported by the gifts and prayers of faithful friends in the West, he is laboring to bring God's comfort to hurting people in his native Punjab.
