About 1969 I was living at home on the farm which was located in the Interlake of Manitoba. I was living with my foster parents who were a loving and caring Mennonite couple. I was actually born and raised in a conservative Mennonite culture. In this rural community life was very simple and uncomplicated...well not quite uncomplicated. Being conservative Mennonites no radios, TV, tape recorders, record players (remember this before CD players, iPods, etc). In fact when I returned from Alberta, where my biological parents lived, I had brought a short wave radio which dad immediately put in the attic of our garage. We did howver, have all the modern conviences of the 20th century, hydro, cars, trucks, tractors, etc.
At 21 I officially became a member of the local Mennonite church and now I could start paying my annual $25 membership fee. I started teaching sunday school, taught Kindergarten and loved it. I joined my (foster) brother, a ordained minister) in doing outreach work on a reservation 50 miles north. We took turns preaching. However, I was not happy because I wasn't spiritually satisfied. One summer I worked for my (Mennonite) Uncle, more liberal as he had radio, after getting paid one day I went out and bought my first transiter pocket radio with headphones and all. When I returned home I had to hide it in my suitcase, under my bed. At night, after chores, I would lie on my bed and try and pick up religious radio programs. I came across one that perked my interest. The speaker was V.E. Howard (his favourite saying"Are you listening?) I don't recall his message but I do recall the free offer of a Bible Correspondence Course. I couldn't recall the complete address but I did the best I could and to my amazement it arrived in Louisiana and they did send the courses, all 30 lessons. For the next two years I studied these lessons. Everything was going fine until they threw Acts 2:38 and the arguments and discussions began and would continue until March 14, 1972.
PART 2 Comming up.....Have you ever felt so miserable that you got stomach cramps and actually fell on your knees on a public road?

Thank you for sharing Sky Pilot!

The Mennonite Church started in my hometown of Witmarsum in the Netherlands.
By a man named Menno Simons. There is a statue of him at the outskirts of the town, and memorial. Mennonites the world over come and visit here.

God has brought you a long way!

God Bless You!

Love, Aalie

Better late than never...somehow I missed this post. My brother in law is somewhat of a historian. He told me our ancestory is part German (Prussian) and part Dutch. Maybe part Netherlands too?

Yes, Skypilot if you are part German, and part Dutch, you may very well be part
Netherlands. Because Dutch is spoken in the Netherlands. Also in part of Belgium Dutch is spoken, namely the area where Eelya lives.
I will look for some pictures I have of where Menno Simons is burried in my home town. I used to play around his memorial although I could only go so far as the fence around it. I have some here somewhere. I will post them when I find them.

Love, Aalie

Here is a picture of Menno Simons who started the Mennonite Church.
My hometown of Witmarsum is written on the right side.

The picture below is of the mennonite church in my home town
when I still lived in Witmarsum. I have been in here and at that time they had a lady pastor. I was very sick at one time and the Mennonite church offered to send me away to a camp to get well, but I did not want to go. So they semt me a big basket of fruit instead. This was not even the church we attended. But I remember going there before, but not to a service.

This is the way the Mennonite church looks today, they built a new one.
I was in here during the Summer 2000 reunion in Friesland. They opened the church
for visitors and placed old pictures here of residents of Witmarsum.
