DEPRESSION IS THE PITS
Depression is a spiritual force It can be a deadly foe; You can't just run away from it This spirit won't just let you go.
When this spirit takes over your mind Confusion and fear then combine; A battle for the mind will rage Depression has no compassion for any age.
Depression will change your mind You will no longer be sound and whole; It will shatter your thoughts from within Your heart can become hard from unconfessed sin.
It rips and tears, as the pieces fall For God's help, in distress, you call; You can't fight this battle by yourself Wounded soldiers can end up on a shelf.
Your tears are like falling rain Your composure you try to regain; Finally there are no more tears Just frightening thoughts and unresolved fears.
You hear a quiet whisper A voice is saying in your ear; No one cares, there is no escape for you As you shed a single, lonely tear.
In desperation, you look in a mirror With sunken eyes and tangled hair; Who is this person looking back at you O God, tell me that's not me in there.
You can no longer be a good mother and wife Depression has stolen this part of your life; You don't care, now, about anything Help me God, my head hurts so from the pain.
You don't care who is around Your mind seems to be no longer sound; Your children look at you with fear Who is this stranger with us here?
Cry out to God, he feels your pain Although your tears might flow like rain; Bite your lip and don't complain The devil is playing a dangerous game.
The brain is chemically unbalanced At this very critical time in your life; You may not feel that God is around Just whisper "Jesus", he can still be found.
Don't let the devil, with his deadly pride Tell you these deceiving lies; He has no legal right to hold on to you Show him the bottom of your shoe.
You may have guessed by now I have been through depression, too; Only Jesus can set your mind straight Just release, to him, this heavy weight.
Yes, I have been in this despair I thought I'd been abandoned there; Only Jesus can restore your mind And once again, his peace you'll find.
The joy of the Lord will be your strength No matter what you seem to think; God will see you all the way through When you look back, you'll see, he's carried you!
