What a remarkable scripture this is! We are all new creatures in Christ, the old has passed away to be replaced by the new. All things have become new! Praise God! We are no longer our former selves who struggled along, bound to the sin of this world, slaves to it. In Christ we are a new creation, free from sins power over us, bathed in the blood of Jesus Christ and made fully justified in the presence of Almighty God. We who once stumbled in darkness now walk free from sin in Christ’s wonderful light. We should shout it out boldly and joyfully, "We are new creations in Christ, old things have passed away; behold all things have become new!"
We can now choose freely between the ways of this world and the ways of our Lord. Obedience to Him is now something we desire to do, because of our great love for Him, who chose to die for us in our place, out of His great love for us. How can we not choose to obey Him, after all that He has sacrificed for us? Jesus said "if you love Me, obey my commandments" It is in this that we demonstrate our undying love to Him. And His burden is light, He asks that we love the Almighty God with all of our heart, with all of our mind and with all of our strength. And love our neighbor as we love ourselves. "Our neighbor" is that beggar on the street. That homeless person asleep on the sidewalk. The bus driver who picks you up in the morning. The annoying clerk at the coffee shop. The Janitor. Your boss, co-worker, partner or employee. The solicitor on the phone. Our neighbor is every person we come in contact with during the course of an average day. And we must never forget that God loves each and every one of them as much as He loves you. Unconditionally. God is no respecter of persons.
We should walk in love wherever we go, and share that love with whomever we encounter. We are all equals in His eyes when it comes to His love for us. He is faithful even when we are not. And He wants us to love Him, through loving them. When we show our love to someone else, we are in effect showing our love for Him.
We are new creations in Christ. And we should walk in the light of that newness and honor Christ by receiving this gift and living in it each and every day. Let us praise God for the freedom we have been given to escape the darkness of this world, no longer enslaved to sin, which is death, but now slaves to His righteousness, which is life eternal.
Let us cast off the "old man" and clothe ourselves with the "new man" in Christ. Let us never choose to put that old man back on again. Let us walk in the newness of life that we have been given in Christ Jesus. This new and living way that comes to us as easy as breathing fresh air. We no longer have to try to be Christ-like through outward rules of the old law, instead, in Christ we have been given a new covenant with God. This is the result of being born again in Christ. No matter what we see happening with us and around us, let us begin to have a good confession of faith, in the fact that we are new creations in Christ. It is by His righteousness, not our own. On our own we could never succeed at becoming righteous. Only by being clothed in Christ and what He has done for us on the Cross are we made righteous in God’s eyes. We must walk by faith and not by sight.
After all, Christ said it Himself. "It is finished!" We have already been delivered by Christ, so let us receive that deliverance and quit stumbling along, trying so hard to succeed at something that has already been handed to us. Praise God, for we are now new creations in Christ!
"Father in heaven we thank You for what You have already done for us by Your grace. We praise You for the freedom You have given us as new creations in Christ. We thank You for the gift of Your precious Son, and we ask that You help us through Your Holy Spirit that lives in us to receive all that we have in Christ Jesus. Help us to honor You Father in all that we do, showing us how to love, the way Christ loves. We pray for Your continued good work in our lives. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen."
