I don't know if you people who still have PSP7 (I have PSP8) can help, but I hope someone here can give me a clue as to how to fix this.
When I add floating text on a layer, I used to deselect it using Ctrl+D instead of going to selections > none. Now it doesn't work in 8 anymore. It still works in 7. The other thing that doesn't work anymore is deleting. You know, like when you have a couple of layers, use the magic wand to select the center of a shape, go to the next layer down, delete, and have like a window to the layer below that. Again, it still works in 7 but not 8. There is no other way to delete either. I could work around the deselecting, with select > none, but there is no other way to delete. I sent off a ??? to Jasc, but they haven't replied yet. This is driving me nuts.

A visual for the "delete/window" thing. Unless I get this fixed, I can't do this kind of thing in 8 anymore.

I haven't even looked at 8..I will have 7 till the end of time. Ask Wendy over at Monark Design, she is using 8 and is pretty sharp with the troubleshooting. Nay

Well, I figured it out myself. I left messages on all kinds of boards, and got only one semi legit answer from a user group. I didn't follow thru on the suggestion, it sounded too drastic. I did apply for membership to Monarch, but haven't gotten a reply yet.

I'll tell you how I fixed it just in case anyone has the same or similar thing happen. You can probably find the answer there. Go to View > Customize > Keyboard. Find whatever you need and reset to default. If it wasn't a keyboard problem, there are all kinds of other commands you can change or reset.

I'm a happy camper now.

Jasc finally got back to me. Here is the solution they offered. I don't think I would want to attempt this on my own.

It is possible that the problem that you are experiencing is related to a corruption in the Paint Shop Pro registry settings. This following procedure will delete these registry settings. The next time Paint Shop Pro is launched, it will recreate the settings and behave like a fresh installation.

NOTE: Before you begin with the process detailed below remember that instructions for editing the registry are intended for experienced users only. The Windows Registry is at the core of the operating system. Errors made in editing the registry could damage your Operating System beyond repair resulting in loss of data and a required reinstallation of the OS. If while you are in the registry you make an error about which you are right away aware of, immediately turn the machine off. Do NOT close the registry editor, do NOT go to START>>SHUTDOWN simply hit the switch to turn of the machine or cut off power to it. This will cause Windows to load from the backup registry that it makes every time it shuts down properly, hence the mistake that you made will not have saved in the registry and your machine should boot as it did previous to your editing. If you are not comfortable with editing the registry you should take these instructions to an experienced Windows technician or contact the Jasc Software Inc. Technical Support Team at 952-930-9171 who will be happy to walk you through the process of editing the registry.

Close Paint Shop Pro,
Click on Start > Run
Type in CMD (for Windows XP or 2000) or Command (for Windows 95/98/ME)
Then click OK.
In the DOS/terminal window, type in regedit and then push the Enter key.
This will open the Registry Editor. When the Registry Editor opens, click Registry>Export Registry File, choose a filename and location to save the file, then hit the save key to save the file. The program will automatically add a REG extension on to the specified filename when it is saved. This file can serve as a backup if necessary. After this backup procedure, we can move on to deleting the Paint Shop Pro registry key. Click on the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER. You will see a list of HKEYS drop down underneath this HKEY. One of these HKEY’’s is called Software. Click on the plus sign next to Software. You will see a list of HKEYS drop down underneath the Software HKEY. One of these HKEY’’s is called Jasc. Click on the Word Jasc to highlight this key. Hit the delete key on your keyboard, then confirm the deletion when prompted. After deleting the Jasc HKEY, you can close the Registry Editor.

Launch Paint Shop Pro. It will act like a fresh installation.

Thank you,
Andrew R.
