Stewardship is more than setting up soup kitchens and overnight shelters. It is good and right that we reach into the river of despair and rescue people who are drowning. But it is time to move upstream and see who's throwing them in.
Edmond Browning
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
Psalm 42:5-8
The King James Version
Two hikers who wake up from their campsite see a grizzly bear approaching. One camper dives into his knapsack and pulls out a pair of sneakers. As he takes off his boots to put on the sneakers, his companion says, "You know you can't outrun a grizzly." His companion replies, "I know. I just have to outrun you."
