Learning from Jesus
by Pastor Simon
Jesus answered and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done."
Matthew 21:21 - NKJV
There are different tools for different jobs. I learnt basic carpentry in classes at school. From the earliest lessons they taught us how to choose the right tool for the job. We were also taught proper use of the tools and how to keep them in condition. As a result I was able to build in that class a fine armchair.
On the road with Jesus the disciples went through an apprenticeship. In His company they learnt to use the tools of God's Kingdom. Likewise you can get in company with Him as you read the Gospels. You can walk through the pages with Him as He ministers watching how He does it. He'll show you how to select the right spiritual tools and demonstrate how to use them. For example, in the scripture above Jesus taught about the tool that would "remove and cast into the sea". Elsewhere in the Gospels you'll watch Him demonstrating the "bind and loose" tool, the "rise up and walk" tool and even the "be whole and go in peace" tool. Mat.16:19; Mar.2:9,11; Luk.8:48.
The "go in peace" tool is precious for our times. Jesus commanded His disciples to use it. He told them, "Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this house.'" Jesus told them those who worked for peace in that way would be called the children of God. Let's speak God's peace and pray God's peace into the lives of those around us. Luk.10:5, Mat.5:9.
