Yesterday I had a doctors appointment to talk about my diabetic progress. My morning did not start too well,I was 4.6(83) a little too low for my comfort. Before I went to it I was 3.1(56) really low for me.So when I was talking to him he got me to do another test it was 1.2(20) but showed no signs of a low and felt fine.Did he ever get excited! He thought I should be flat on back unconseciuos I guess but I told him that this wasnot unsual for me and he had a hard time firuring that out.Oh well I guess he got first hand knowledge that we all do not follow what they are taught.Has this ever happened to you?

Yes he got me some glucosse gell and got one of ER nurses to come get me.The hospital and doctor's offices are all in the same building here.He kept an eye on me until all was ok.I spent about three hours there until my sugars stayed above 6(108).

Evan managed to walk to the nurses office at school a couple of years ago with a bg of 26. She called me at work to tell me that he was asymptomatic of a hypo. She even tested him twice because she could not believe his sugar was that low and he was not sweating, slurring speech, or staggering..or anything!!! He just told her that he felt a little strange and thought he ought to have his sugar checked.

I had a pump clog one morning, changed the pump out and had an Ob/Gyn appointment.  I forgot to tell them I had a clog and my BG was about 300.  It was on it's way down when I left home, but they did the old urine dip stick test.  I still dont think they believed me when I told them all about pumps and clogged tubing.  They were very skeptical and acted like I must be in really bad shape all the time.  I tried to give a pump lesson, but they didnt bother to listen to that either.
Next year I'm going to have to walk in with an 80 or something so they trust me again.

I have been diabetic for 31 years and sometimes I am low, < 30 and don't feel anything. I do believe that the rate in which my blood sugar drops has a lot to do with me feeling it. If I am going low, slowly, I don't usually feel it, but if I go low quickly, like from too much insulin, then I feel it. I have had a few times where I had to retest because I didn't believe the low #. But then other times, when my sugar is 50, I feel it, sweaty, confused and all that. Sometimes if I get the feeling that I am low and am too busy (at work) to check, the feeling will go away, then the low is not felt, cause I missed the warning sign, or I just chose to ignore it.

Sincerely, Dee

Hi:
Yes this has happened to me....many times.  I have what my doctor called Unsymptomatic Hypoglycemia.  I ,like you, was at my doc's office. He was in the process of checking my blood sugar.  He asked me, how do you feel?  I said, I feel great why? Is my sugar high?  He asked me a few more questions and then said,  Your blood sugar is 24 !   Needless to say, he wouldnt let me leave without first drinking a glucose drink and then checking me again.
I was told that long term type 1's can develop a kind of neuropathy of the endocrine system.
You are not alone in this, believe me.

My son, Derick, will be fine one moment with blood sugars within his range and about an hour later, he will be down in the 30-40 range showing no signs whatsoever of being low. I've brought it up to our doctor and he just suggested that we just watch him and make sure that he's eating at the right times and doing the correct amount of insulin at the right times.

I actually had it happen at the er one night.  Had gone in for a severe headache turned out it was sinus infection and I asked to have sugar checked because I just didn't feel right not really anything I could pinpoint tho.  When they checked it was at 40 and they freaked out guess they aren't used to seeing that...........hehehe.  Told my dr about it and boy they got a class on it he took over the er the next week after seeing me.........hehehe.
Guess it goes to show don't have to have this for 20 yrs to have this problem I've had it for 14 yrs now and have had the problem of no warning signs for almost 2 yrs now.

I have a friend who is type 2 and he has no symptoms and does not feel anything when he is low. In fact when he has a reading in the low 50's he thinks he is okay. I told him that he should not go below 70 and he should eat 15 gms of carbs and retest in 15 minutes to make sure  his blood sugar is going up again.
Of course, I feel lousy at 80, so I guess we are all different when it comes to lows and highs.

Once at a Thanksgiving Dinner I went ahead and bolused for my plate and for some reason eating got delayed, can't remember exactly why. I had taken a fair sized bolus for the stuffing and other things on my plate.
Went ahead and started eating and noticed that the dining room looked pretty 'flouresent', and then started to feel funny. I went and checked and was 30.  Everyone went nuts trying to give me pieces of chocolate cake.

I was able to do that.. Talk/walk and be awake and still had a major low.
I was just coming off a rotation for the day. walking down a flight of stairs. We (my friends and I) thought that I should check my sugars.
I was 16 or 0.9mmol.
Not diaphoretic,
talking normally
walking normally
nothing.
was completely asymptomatic of hypoglycaemia. The ED was only 200 feet from where I was. I was walked over there and the friends told them that I was asymptomatic to a low, and that I just tested at 16. The nursing staff just about **** their pants. I was rushed into the back, started on IV D5 and a amp of D50 was rapidly infused. I shot to over 600 (on their meter). I spent 4 days in hospital, to find out how and why I went so low, and why I was asymptomatic (per my physician, and per several of my professors).
One reason on that part was Hypo-Unaware, which is what I was diagnosed with durring that visit (had subsquent lows durring that visit, into the 20's (1.2-1.8) to 600+ (33.3 +).
It can happen and it does happen.
Medical students, phsyicians in training (residents) and phsyicians are being taught/trained in Hypo-Unaware now (actually it started back in 2000).
