One tip I use is to pinch my tummy, mostly on the right side, I'm left handed. I use a 2 inch needle. I'm on lantus and only use 20 units aday.My doctor said as long as my bottle stayes in the frig and don't get cloudy or see anything in it then its good to use, I have used the same bottle for 3 months. ANYONE have any word on this?? I use to through away the bottle every month and it was at least half full. what a wast and the price is kinda high, I 'm a type 2 diabetic. and have real good control of my blood sugar 108 fasting this morning and 6.7 on the last A1c test. |

Hi tabby i've used the thighs upper arms and now have been using the stomach. I use the right side of my stomach for novolog and the left for lantus. I use the short needles and keep the shots within half inch of the belly button were there is less nerve endings so less pain. I also leave the syringe inserted for an extra couple of seconds and this usually avoids the little drop of blood or insulin from escaping........lol. Hope some of this helps. Missy |

knowing the tummy gives the quickest absorbtion of all areas most likely, I still don't like using my tummy. Hadn't thought about trying so close to my navel... interesting Missy.. might have to give it a go.. I also leave needle in just a few seconds on every shot... I also make sure the alcohol from my swab has dried before inserting. Less sting that way.. |

It took me a year to finally be able to take a shot in my tummy. When I was first diagnosed I was big pregnant and was very leary. Then I had the 'flabby' loose skin after having my baby and I would have had to streatch my skin and find a non-streatch marked spot, which was not easy after 3 'big' babies. But after awhile, my skin tightend up and my streatch marks got better..mostly..Its now my favorite spot. I dont bruise on my tummy like I do on my thighs and arms and if I do happen to bruise, then who would see it? I like it right next to my bellybutton too and leave the needle in a secound or two longer and I learned to let the alcohol dry the hard way. I have this really awesome alcohol applicator that saves me from opening those stupid alcohol wipes several times a day...which saves me time. It was about $3 at DiabetesAndMore.com. |

Tabby, after over 30 years of diabetes I have gone to pens and I highly recommend them. So easy to dial and shoot. The needles seems smaller to. I love it. Sun |

I'm always up for smaller needles.. even if they just appear so.,,,, lol... I do use alcohol swabs every time Judy and do so even though others don't... I shower at least once a day so it isn't a matter of thinking I need to for that reason... lol.. just sort of a personal choice for me and what I grew up doing... my endos that I have had still recommended doing so... especially since I still use the vial insulin and needles.. Keep smiling, Cuddles |
