Alec began complaining of a sore neck a few days ago.  I initially thought it was strained from all his activities....but today he had a very noticeable inflamed lymph node on his neck, and could barely turn his head.     I took him to the local walk-in clinic, and the dr took a swab of his throat and prescribed some antibiotics.  I was standing in line at the pharmacy, when it dawned on me that one of the severe side-effects of the Thyroid drug is swollen lymph nodes!     I phoned the endochrinologist on-call and mentioned the symptoms, and was told to bring him down tomorrow morning to get a white blood cell count done.     If it's the drug that has caused this, we will have no choice but to go the radio-active iodine route.  According to what I've read, the thyroid meds can cause a condition that stops the production of white blood cells in the bone marrow.   This leaves a person open to life-threatening infections.     Please pray that Alec can avoid those complications, and that we make it through the next few weeks of possible treatments.  Thanks. |

I'm terribly sorry that Alec is not doing well.   I hope it is something that an antibiotic  will cure and not a problem with the meds.  I will be praying for a good diagnoses from the endo.  Let us know what the endo says. Prayers and blessings Bar |

Oh I'm sorry. There's the reason my endo suggested the RAI and not that drug. You do need to keep close watch, and be very careful with this. I hope and pray it goes away right away, but please do keep on top of the situation. |

geez, Eryka... I'm so sorry to read this news about Alec.  It always amazes me that some meds that are suppose to help us ends up causing some other problem.  I sure will keep you, Alec and family in my thoughts and prayers, hon...... extra hugs for Mom too.... always.... Let us know how you come out.  Peace,Cheryl |

You know you can count on prayers for our buddy, Alec (and family) from those of us that post and from those of us that just read.  I think we're always touched by children with this disease because we all know what a difficult journey it can be sometimes.  Take care, hon. Peace,Cheryl |

Well at least it wasn't as bad as it could have been. We can be thankful for that.    I hope Monday turns out good also.  Pretty hard for a child to face all this.  I will be praying for him. Prayers and blessings Bar     |
