Hello,

My BF was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. His endo has him on NovoRapid 3X daily on a sliding scale and Levemir 54 units at bedtime.  He is experiencing severe itching, redness and welts around the injection sites.  Is this a common reaction?  Should he try an antihistamine?  I suggested Claritin 24 Hour to try to get some relief.  He has tried a topical antihistamine and a cortisone ointment but they haven't worked.  I am concerned that he will stop his treatment due to these side effects.
Also, can someone explain how to inject the insulin.  Should he be pinching the skin first?  He is getting conflicting answers.  Any advice on these matters would be greatly appreciated

It's possible to have a bad enough allergy that you have to switch to a different insulin. This happened to me on Humalog.  I think it would pay for him to ask his doctor or nurse educator about this.

Hello,
Recently I Was at a local hospital
I was recently and received a rash all over my body. It was an allergic reaction
to Leviquin. My feet are so swollen I can hardly walk.I told a few medical personnel. Nothing was done. My skin in some areas are peeling. and they all started at injection sites.

Hi Jovanna, are his needles old ..does replace them often?. I break out a little , also have welts with my Byetta injections. But the redness, rash and welts disapper in an hr or so.I pitch a section of skin where I'm going to inject and hold it while I inject the insulin & Byetta.
