Due to insurance issues, you know what I mean, I have my diabetes monitered by my general practioner Doctor. Better than no Doctor at all, but not very helpful. I am on Humalin 70/30 @ 35 units 2 X day. The Doc thought that this was rather high. Because of other financial constraints, the eating of carbs in higher than I would like and the overall diet is left to what ever we can afford at the moment. At 35 units my B/S runs 135 in the a.m. and bounces around late in the afternoon. I began to up my dose until I reached 140 2 X day and I was 106 in the am and 85 at five pm. Is this too much insulin to take? Should I try a lower dose for one injection and the full amount for the other?
What do you think?

Tao..... I reacted to the amount of 70/30 you're taking but for this reason....I was on 70/30 for a short period of time and it did not work well with me...... I was having low bloodsugars all of the time with it.  I have since found that any quick acting insulin is not agreeable with my system....
The only thoughts I have on it is if you've already adjusted your insulin and you have not had any threatening results from it (such as continued low bs's or elevated sugars) and you've found your readings to be acceptable and you're feeling okay..... stick with it.  It is imperative though that you monitor your bs's and how you feel if you ever adjust any of your medications....... that's what living with diabetes is about....finding out what works and what doesn't...... just test yourself consistently so you will know what your bs levels are doing.....
If and when you can get control of finances and can change your eating habits, that should be done as soon as possible and I do understand as most of us do about the cost of diabetes and finances...... diet and exercise are better to control your diabetes than taking more insulin...... the diet and exercise and insulin combo is the best......
I cannot stress enough about monitoring your bs levels though..... how long have you been using this current amount of insulin?  And also, how long have you been diabetic?  I don't think we've met yet....I'm Cheryl, T1 for 34 years...... just wondering how long you've been working with diabetes and your system...... hope someone else can offer you some thoughts also.....see ya. Peace,Cheryl
