It seems since I have been on Symlin my blood sugars have steadily climbed higher and so have my need for more units of humalog and levemir to try and keep my numbers below 200 (which I am not always able to).  Often I don't eat at least 30 carbs per meal as I know you are supposed to with Symlin per their instructions.  I am about ready to quit the Symlin altogether, I was doing better without it it seems.  My endo tried Byetta even though I was on insulin, it seemed to work but since I am prone to pancreatitis and byetta caused real severe stomach pains not just nausea, I chose to stop Byetta.
Levemir seems not to work even broken down to two separate injections per day 70after supper and 40 before breakfast.  I am allergic to Lantus , can't take it .
I sometimes wonder if I'd be better off going back to NPH and humalog like I started off with on insulin.
I'm at my wits end trying to get my dawn phen. under some kind of control (below 200)at least.
Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.  I am going over all this with my endo at my next appt.
Sometimes I wish I could get approved for the pump instead of taking up to 8 shots per day but Medicare is not very open to type 2's getting the pump without jumping through hoops.
Marge
Sorry for the long vent but I just am getting very frustrated lately.

Marge has your Dr tried putting you on Actos along with your insulin? I hate it because it causes me to gain weight but my Dr says it helps insulin resistant diabetics. You might consider trying that.

I was on Actos, puffed up like a balloon so my endo took me off and said it was one med I couldn't tolerate. I can not afford to gain more weight and on Actos I gained forty pounds (water retention )in less than a month. As soon as I was off the Actos, the weight came off luckily.
