Which pump to use... Animas or Medtronic Minimed.
Hum.
I would honestly go with ANIMAS. Even though I am not a animas user, but a cozmo user. If I had the two above choices, then it would animas.
Reasons why:
Standard leur lock set
customer service is wonderful (I have got some of my sets from them, so I have spoken to them).
Reasons why NOT with medtronic Minimed:
Customer service for 90% of the people is something to wonder about
Billing people several months if not years later after the fact (I have heard of people recieving a bill from them 3 years or so AFTER their order, and they demanding payment or being sent to collections for them not billing within a specific time frame).
You are stuck with them. You can not go shopping for different sets for their pumps, as they are propietory (you can only use medtronic minimed infusion sets, unlike the animas which has a standard leur lock feature.. you can shop from Disetronic now Accu-Chek, Animas, Deltec or Minimed's 50x series sets).
Another issue with Medtronic Minimed, is their reps are extreamly pushy, saying their products are superior to other products on the market, ect.
Yes, they have about 60% of the market in insulin pumps, but they are loosing more and more ground as people are going to other pump makers (animas, accu-chek [used to be disetronic], deltec [smiths medical md], omnipod [which is not sold us wide, just select areas, and some insurances' still will not pay for the omnipod if they are sold in your location]).
So with your previous use of the Disetronic Dtron, and you have sets left over, If you go to the medtronic minimed pump, you will have to toss all the infusion sets into the garbage and could not use them with the pump, unless you can use a particular cartridge from a particular company [which is doubtfull with keizer ins.] which allows the paradigm user to use leur lock infusion sets, but with the animas, you could, as it is a standard leur lock pump
Almost all medtronic minimed user will say that their pump is the best, but a pump is better than no pump.
I honestly would ask both companies if you can do a 3 day saline trial to decide on which pump to use. That way, you can get the feel for both pumps, and decide on which pump you honestly would use. For you only get a 30 day money back time. and if you don't get your training until AFTER the 30 day period you might be stuck for 4 years with a pump you might not like. Better to do a 3-4 day saline trial to see which pump you like the best.
