Hi Vonny,
               Byetta is not insulin.
I hope the medical staff didn't tell you it was.
I know you said in another post it was a new insulin.
It is not insulin though and has been in use for a couple of years in the USA but new to the UK.

Vonny , Byetta is fairly new here in the USA, within the last 2 or 3 years.I've been on it about a year now.But it's not an insulin as Sarah said.

I'm on Levemire ( insulin ) , Byetta & Actos.

I use Novolog through my insulin pump.  It is not a generic for Humalog as Michelle said above, but a competitor to Humalog made by a different company and with a different formula.  I like it.  It is a rapid-acting insulin.  If you are not on a pump, you would also need a long-acting insulin like lantus or levemir.

I use Novolog in my pump. As said, Byetta is not an insulin and Novolog is not a generic for Humalog (though they are similar and Novolog may just be your insurance's preferred rapid-analog). I have used just R, R and Lantus, Lantus and Novolog, just Novolog in my pump, and Levemir and Novolog. There really is no best. R and NPH are both outdated. I'd say the best plan is any plan that incorporates a basal that works for you with meal boluses based on carb ratios and correction factors.

Byetta is not an insulin. It is an injectable drug used with people with type 2 who have not gained control with Metformin and or a sulfronyea or both,  It's generic name is Exenatide. It is the first class of drugs called incretin mimetics. You can google Byetta to learn more.
