Took blood tests and have some results.

A1c 5.5

fasting on that day 96

Good.. right??
Afew other numbers are out of wack though... thyroid. I never had a thyroid problem and tests were done as recently as jan2007, but... I stopped smoking... metabolic upset... and have been on celexa ( now down to 10mg and will be stopping in a few weeks) .. another drug addition  that I think explains metabolic changes.. though the psych that I see says no effect.. Yeah.. read the net!! So I have an appointment with the endo guy and will let you know what the story is there.

And some platelet  (high/low) number.. have an appointment with Hemo next Wed.

I sound "confused" which is not me... right? .. because I need to know every detail. Afew things going on.. I don't have the lab report in front of me.. I was at my gp this afternoon and left without the copy cause I know I will see the endo tonight.  I will get a copy later.  Sounds so convenient right???   I got results back and have appointment with specialist the same day.NO!!  The seeming convenience is about money.. Basically my gp who now has 15 other specialist  docs practicing out of his space.  This increases the referrals and my doc's income. . So here is my annoyance.. If there is any number out of range on anything on blood tests he refers you to these specialists. Now that is not a bad thing... but as he said to be honest when I asked him a question about the lab report... "The way medicine is practiced now  this is the way it works... any wonky anything.. gets referred out." (The wonky is my word,,,, but u get the point)

I love my doc... known him 25 years and when my uncle was in the hospital this Doc came at all hours to just be with me because I was so distraught... I adore him and he is being honest.. He is a certified Cardiolodist... bUT.. actually has one in the office that he refers out to... See the sense?? There are so many hours in a day. He makes more money on the referrals than treating

Man, Veets.....A1c is terrific!  good deal on that and way to go.
Thyroid....I've been hypothyroid since 98.... and you're right about the metabolic upset... could be that simple.  When you have the #'s it will be easier to tell.....
I hear ya on the referral system.....I think that is all the gp is for anymore....the one I go to had a patient come in (I was waiting for my appt) and she had cut her hand on something and the dr. came out and told her she didn't have any bandages that she had to go to the hospital 16 miles down the road.  Now don't you think a towel would have worked so she could have at least applied pressure to her hand while she drove to the hospital?
And then in other places, it just seems that each dr. office has become it's own little hospital...they send their patients round and round and round...I think they use to call that a circle jerk....nope, that's not it...but something like that.  I know sometimes there's reasons for it but not for the most part...all it does is scare the bajeebers out of the patient.
Great A1c though, kiddo!  Let us know what you find out.  see ya.  Peace,Cheryl
