Hi everyone, I am new to this group and have been reading this a.m. I am a type 2 for 7years. I am taking 1000mg metformin twice daily as well as 2mg glimpride. I changed meds jan 10th as my doc was unhappy with a 6.8 hba1c. I have had no weight loss since the diagnosis. On a better note i have had no weight gain either. I have been having quite a few hypo's since the med change. 21 below 80 in less than 2 months. Spoke with my doc and she encourages me to eat every 2 hours protein with a carb. My family is getting quite upset as the ups and downs are pretty hard on everyone. Any advice or comments greatly appreciated. No exercise currently AS EATING EVERY 2 HOURS IS PRETTY TIRING. |

Mary K..... forgot to ask you.... when you post would you use a size 4 or 5 font as some of our members have difficulty seeing due to their diabetes or older ages..(, me...lol) so the larger fonts are easier to read..... thanks, hon. Peace,Cheryl |

Welcome MaryK. glad to have you join us here. You say no excercise ? if you can walking will help your sugars ,, but I can't really say anything I havent walked in some time now..when I did it made me feel so much better and right now I'm under so much stress walking would help with that too. I would recommend as a new diabetic you stay away from flour , flour products, white breads, potatoes, corn, peas and eat lean meats. poultry , fish a green vegetables at least untill you know what works for you. And to lear that you need to test test test. Wait 2 hrs after a meal and test.Drink lots of water to help keep your kidneys flushed out. Hope to see more of you here .Take care. Maryb |

Welcome to the group. I differ with some of Maryb's don'ts as we as diabetics can eat almost anything as long as we keep the portions small. Also t-2s don't need to test as often as t-1s or pumpers. Aic of 6.8 is good as the criterion is anything lower than 7% is good. Having hypos is a sympton that you medication is too much. Carb counting is a good way to regulate the input of foods that may give you spikes but never test sooner than 2 hours after eating or when you are having a hypo because you have to know how low low is. Below 70 is low. I have beewn a t-2 for over 37 years and do much research on this damn disease. Is your doctor an endocrinologist? You may have to ask him /her to refer you to one if he/she isn't. Also ask your doctor about Byetta. Teaveler100 |

Hi folks...haven't been here in a while..welcome to all the new people. Just wanted to add a comment about watching to be sure your sugar doesn't drop too low. You know too low will cause you to go into a coma --little harsh fact..but dangerously true...so be careful. We all are different...I feel weak and shake if mine gets below 90....mine runs in the 6. range and that is good. I take 2000 mg of glucophage every night and try to watch what I eat..although once in a while I treat myself to a no no goodie....am 74 and have had this disease a little over 10 years or more. best of luck to all.. |
