What are some of your bedtime treats or cravings?

When I want a sweet treat at bedtime, I've been eating one of those sugar free jello cups with fat free coolwhip. I never thought that it could satisfy me as a sweet treat, but it sure does (thank goodness).

As some of you have read with my various posts, I've been
trying to "behave" myself as far as diet and excercise is concerned. It's amazing how your "tastes" can change when you try to get on the right track!

What also has amazed me is how much better I feel.......and I mean MUCH MUCH better!

Thanks for listening.

I am supposed to eat at 9:00p.m. with my shot. I usually do a salad, or a small amount of fruit.
I do buy those sugar free jello cups...I use them for a snack sometimes between meals. Oh yeah...yogurt...I eat alot of yogurt too...the lc kind.

This idea of not eating after dinner is a good one on many levels....keeps the weight down, helps the digestion...not good going to bed with full stomach for most people. Perhaps some of those with experience can explain to me...as far as fasting blood sugars..is it good to stop eating a certain number of hrs before bed? Is it different for type 1 and 2 diabetics on that snack thing?  Is it just an individual thing that everyone figures out for themselves as to what snacks are good for them and when they should or should not be eaten?

My morning readings are lower when I do eat something right before bed.  I usually have a slice of whole grain bread with a little peanut butter sprinkled with cinnamon and a little cup of milk.  There are evenings when I hate to have it, but when I'm really watching my numbers it makes a huge difference.

I'm not crazy about peanut butter but I don't eat much bread either.....so my evening snack after dinner and before bedtime is a tablespoon of peanut butter.  It works for me...my morning readings are around 100-125.

This is probably a dumb question, but why peanut butter before bread for lowering your morning sugar level?  Because it's a protein?  Thanks.  Pam

One of my drs told me not to eat after 6 pm but I teach until nearly 8 so I can't eat the early.   If I am up late and need a snack I have peanut butter or a cookie.

Please note:  I am NOT the one that is diabetic in my family...however, as a low sugar treat I eat this as a snack sometimes:

CHOCOLATE CHERRY SODA
-In a glass, add  3/4 cup of low carb (Breyer's Carb smart) Rocky Road ice cream (4 net grams of carbs...not sure how diabetics have to count this, however)

- Pour one of the following over the chocolate ice cream:   - Bob Jones Sugar Free Black Cherry Soda
OR, if you don't have that, Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper.

Stir to a drinkable consistency and enjoy.

YUM...we love this occasionally.

The diet plan that I follow from the dietician allows me to have a piece of whole wheat toast or 6 soda crackers with a piece of cheese or 3 tbs of cottage cheese and sometimes I'll have a couple of baby carrots with my snack. My plan is laid out in starches and proteins etc so I could substitute popcorn for something else if I wanted to. As long as I don't stray from the plan I'm okay...no sugar added cookies are a definite no no.

A bottle of dry red Wine !   Well that's what I crave !  But most times cut that down to half a bottle. This cutting down is tough !

I crave something sweet around bed time too.  One thing that I've found that works great for me is to make what I call "Sweet Blood" popcorn.  I make kettle corn, but use the Splenda brown sugar.  It's great.  It doesn't add many carbs to the popcorn, yet makes it sweet.  I make a bowl of it and split it with my dog who's even more of a popcorn addict than I am.
