hello, I was wondering this question, because  I have cut down on what I eat on a daily basis, and eat more greens, like Vegies and lots and lots of Salads, and really have cut sweets out for the most part...(come on I slip every now and again). But really just paying attention to what i put in my mouth more...My portion size isn't what it used to be..Maybe I don't require as much food anymore...Thats a very good thing...But- If anyone has any idea of something different that you eat that you could share so getting a veriety would be so nice...I try to put a twist on things but it gets old...Run out of ideas, you know...
So if any of you could give a few suggestions it would be wonderful.
I have been going to the Gym consistantly now and feeling good...And I guess after this 1 1/2 mos heading to the Gym almost everyday except my lull last week, which is gone now. but I have seen my clothes are baggier and i see toning going on and the best part.....First time i jumped on the scale...And WooHoo.....Those numbers went down some..Thats a good thing..Means its paying off.... So just wanted to share.

Hey John ..you have George Forman grills in the UK ? wonderful. I love that grill. You gave me some ideas, I'm going to try the "CHICKEN BREAST, I CUT A POCKET IN THE BREAST AND STUFF IT WITH  GRATED MOZZERELLA LOW FAT CHEESE THEN WRAP STRIPS OF BACON AROUND IT AND BAKE" .Don't like Ham so will cut that out.

Hello...Im a newbie here, but I have learned a few things about diet since becoming a diabetic just a month ago. Confused as I could be about not knowing what I could or could not have and through research I learned..."Carbs Raise Glucose" and "Carbs Cause Weight Gain"!!!  Knowing these 2 tidbits of information has helped me ALOT! I searched the Atkins Carb Counter and printed it out and now it lays on my island 24-7! Nothing gets prepared or eaten without going over that list! My Doc told me "75 carbs per day and you will lose weight and get your glucose in check!" Ive been on this carb counting diet for a month now and have lost 16 pounds and my glucose levels have came down from 500+ to the low 100's! My hubby has also went on this carb counting plan and has dropped 21 pounds. We made alot of other changes as well...changed from Sheds Spread butter to "I cant believe its not butter", I use Canola spray on a Foreman grill as well and NEVER eat fried foods anymore.  I bake, broil and grill everything we eat. We only have 1 bread serving per week and 1 potato (usually baked) serving each week...or 2 breads or 2 potatoes, but never more than 2 per week of either. Other than those breads, we never have anything that has flour in it (ie: gravies). We take a food list we got from the Atkins site to the resturants with us and count carbs there as well. 75 can be hard to do, especially at dinner time, but if you can manage to learn all the food exchanges and keep some level of discipline, (One Day At A Time) you will lose the weight I promise! Become a Splenda Queen or King, Sugar Free everything you can find, water, water, water....I hate it too, so add some Crystal light packets to your bottled water....0 carbs and sugar free! 16 pounds doesnt sound like a lot when you have 100+ to go, but ya gotta start somewhere right??? Just search for "Atkins Carb Counter" its our life line around here and you will be surprised at the foods you really can have you never knew about! Once you make all the changes it doesnt even feel like a diet because your still eating what you want, just smaller portions and healthier ways to cook it all....as for smaller portions...we use smaller dinner plates!!!!

Hi
Something that I learned is to mix free or medium carbs with high carbs, like broccoli, tomatoes, pea pods, bean sprouts with pasta and use dry pasta seasoning and no sauce.

I changed when I eat the heavy meal. I work from 2:30PM to midnight so my big meal is lunch and eat a liter dinner.

On the weekend breakfast is heavy lunch is lite and supper is salad.

Hope this help

Eugene

Congratulations on your weight loss and exercise.  Soon you will need to buy some new clothes!!

I'm type 2 going on 2 years now.  I did A LOT of testing early on to figure out what I could eat.  Everyone is a little different in what they can eat and stay within their BG goals so I recommend testing, testing, testing.  I am on a lowish carb diet and exersise regularly (the diagosis was a wakeup call).  I lost 30 pounds fairly easily once I cut out the big time carbs.  That being said, here are some things I've found that work for me...

Smaller meals, more snacks between meals, and drink lots of water (helps you feel full and is good for you).  At work I keep some snacks around: nuts (almonds), 1/2 an apple, a few strawberries, string cheese, Pria Carb Select power bars (these have sugar alcohol which some people can't tolerate, but it's fine for me).

I found a bread I love and can eat 2 slices and be fine - It's called Essential Flax Seed and has 15g carbs for 2 slices (less than 1/2 the carbs of most other bread).  I make BLTs and various other sandwiches.

For lunch I mostly eat salads and I like the South Beach Diet wrap sandwich kits (Safeway sells them here in CA, but sometimes hard to find).  We also have a Mongolian BBQ resturant near work that's cheep and you mix your own bowl that they cook so I can pick veggies and meat and leave out the noodles.

For dinner I do lots of veggies (stir fried with olive oil or steamed) and broiled meat and fish.  I avoid some veggies like beets that are high in sugars.

I saw a nutricianist (spelling?) early on who said that mixing fats with carbs helps slow the glucose from getting into the blood and that seems to work for me.  For example, she said to drink 2% milk instead of skim.  I can eat oatmeal in the morning if I add a little cream (fat).  Without the cream my BG goes higher faster than with the cream.  Odd, but true for me anyway.

It sounds like you're doing great.  Try different foods and test to see how your body reacts.

Hi - I'm new here and was diagnosed with Type 2 in January - I've been on this diet since March and lost 15 lbs -

Here are my guidelines from the dietician:

My limits are
1600 calories/day
up to 180 grams carbs/day

Eat daily:
3 meals with max 45-50 grams carbs per meal
2 snacks with max 15 grams carbs each

Food choices -

The carbs:
Cereals, Grains, Pasta, Bread, Beans, Starchy Vegetables, fruits and Milk all count as carbs depending on the amount you eat. It doesn't take much to reach 45-50 grams per meal. Some examples - 1/4 bagle = 15 carbs, 1 slice bread = 15 carbs, 1 small potato, 1/3 cup pasta or rice, 3 cups air popped popcorn no fat added count as 15 carbs. Fruits - these all = 15 carbs - 1 small fresh fruit, 15 small grapes, 1/2 cup unsweetened fruit juice, 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup cut up fruit

Plus, these don't count as carbs, but have lots of calories:
Meat/Protein - 4-6 oz/day of very lean meat is allowed - each ounce of meat counts as 55-100 calories or substitute - 1 slice of cheese, 1 Tbsp peanut butter, 1 egg, 1/4 cup cottage cheese all count as one ounce of meat. 3 ox of cooked chicken, bturkey etc is about the size of a deck of cards.

Fats are limited to 3-5 servings/day each serving is 5 grams fat and 45 calories - 1 tsp mayo, 1 Tbst reduced fat margarine, 1 1/2 Tbsp reduced fat cream cheese count as one serving - oh yeah - 1 glass of wine counts as 2 fats

The good news (?) is that you can eat all the non-starchy veggies you want.

The key that I found is to limit carbs and use portion control on the others - its not easy, but it works.

Good luck

gracie
