A neighbor of mine was cutting across by back lawn when I was sitting out Sunday and he was admiring my garden and the melon section. He has a garden to he said and stopped at the melons. This is a gentleman who is a bit odd and lives at his parents. Well Tuesday night we discovered our two largest melons that we were about ready to pull were gone! There was no evidence that a animal got to it, besides its to big for the animals around us to carry. Also no plants around it were smashed and the melons roots were not damaged, it looked like they were pulled off. We keep wondering and hoping we're wrong about our neighbor taking them. Any ideas? We're not going to say anything and just let it go unless I get the opportunity to see his Mom and she says something when I bring up the garden topic. LOL!

Angelbear, when I read the topic, I thougth it might be a joke of the "crude" nature. You litterally mean your two melons!  I bet your hunch is correct!  Too bad!

Your hunch may be right but it could also be a kid or perhaps a homeless person. I think you are right it is best to not say anything unless the neighbor and you get into a natural conversation. The only other way I could think of would be to ask her if they have had any problems wiht thigs disappearing from their garden too.

I would say someone took them. If it had been an animal the melons would still be there just chewed on. It could have been some kids in the area or your neighbor. I'm with Sonja wouldn't say anything unless the subject comes up. Sorry someone took them.

We're not going to say anything at all.

Sonja- Its definitely not any homeless people, we have none in the suburbs. Maybe clear downtown Chicago somewhere.

I truly feel my neighbor did it but we will let it go and watch our garden more. If  he takes my watermelon that is growing nicely, now thats another story. I will reconsider my feelings. LOL!!
