How good are these bulbs ?

And did you know there is mercury in them?!!!!

Who wants to have a broken bulb on the kitchen floor
and splattered with maybe mini amounts of it over the
floor you are walking on .
not me .   I am against them.

Besides they are bad for your eyesight
I do enough squinting already.

I have been griping about the fact that they contain mercury from day one!  The senator just enlightened me on more facts that I DIDN'T know, though, such as the fact that the bulb is only made in China and none made here in the U.S.
Also, we do not have curb side recycling here and thes recycling station that I take my newspapers to 8 miles down the road does NOT have recycling for these lightbulbs!

My Electric Company, PG & E, Sponsored a program and put the CFL's in  this Mobile Home Park at no cost to us.
I have 4 ceiling fixtures that were changed and several lamps.

I wish I had read up on it as I may not have allowed the switch.

I already had the long Florescent lights in my kitchen, so didn't think much about it.
Are the long florescent  lights differeent?

I tried to do a little research  at GOOGLE and came up with this:
     CFL

Reposting for Annie without the copy/paste photos...

IN 'GOOGLES 'SEARCH THIS IS WHAT I FOUND :
Pros
1. More cost-effective than incandescent bulbs.
2. Every CFL you use will save you about $30 over the life of the bulb.
3. CFLs can last 6 to 11 times longer than their incandescent counterparts.
4. Variety of shapes and sizes to match every families personal preference.
5. Newer generation CFLs come in cool light, soft light and day light versions,
making it easier for consumers to choose different types of lights for different rooms in the house.

Cons
1. Their price up front.
2. The mercury that is inside of the CFL. (App. 5mg)
3. Sometimes light is not very good.
and optometrists do not like the new bulb . as it has a detrimental effect on our eyesight .
as it makes us squint and the dullness is no good for our eyes .we need a bright light to see and read.
4. Certain company's make poor CFLs.
5. CFLs are made in India and China, where environmental standards are virtually non-existent.

*also Australia for the New  Zealand market

It is important now for CFL manufacturers to organize a safe recycling system.

So get rid of them now . before they alter all of our electric fittings in N.Z. e.t.a is next year .'09.
