Some time ago I read about a way to get your whites really "white" and the formua included Cascade dishwasher soap. Has anyone else ever heard about this? If so, do you know what the concoction is and does it work?
Babs~ I found it and have been using this "recipe" for many years with great success!Well, here's what I've been doing for years...(an old hint from Heloise-lol)... You fill your washer with the hottest water you can just to cover the amt of clothes you are going to put in...then before you add the clothes dump 3 or 4 cups of the cheapest dishwasher crystal you can find in there (like Cascade-only buy the cheap brand)...agitate to mix it up...then dump clothes in and agitiate just until they are mixed around and shut off washer and let soak until water is cool. Put washer thru spin/rinse cycle and then wash as you normally would. I always add about 2 or 3 cups of Clorox and I find this doesn't affect logos, etc. It will take out all sorts of set in stains...I used to use it on my baby clothes and it took out everything! It also really whitens up tshirts & white socks. You can actually use this on ANY light color. Let me know how it goes. TRose
I posted so fast that I noticed I didn't put the bleach part in until later...but you add the bleach right away with the Cascade....they are compatable & you can mix them (unlike amonia & Clorox)...sorry...didn't mean to confuse you...that is the original "recipe" from Heloise. TRose
I was hunting for a solution tonight and came across this. 2 to 3 cups of bleach on light colors?? No way! I used less than 1/2 cup bleach to a high load cycle and ruined a shirt. I'm glad it works for you but I would be afraid to use that much bleach on anything. It has to be harsh on the fabrics.
Angel~ I use this for clothes that are quite stained. I have used it for years and years and have not had any fabric damage at all. I think the standard that came with my machine was one cup of bleach per load. When I want to really whiten and get rid of all the "yellow" or "gray" or baby food stains I use 2-3 cups in a large capacity washer. Some of the clothes that it cleans up couldn't be worn unless I did use this "recipe"....and I got it out of the newspaper a several years back. I don't think I would use it on expensive clothing but for tshirts and cotton undies and kid's clothes and especially white socks~it is a miracle worker. TRose
