Location:  Elliana's Temple Lair and the Twisted Root Tavern, Elmshade
SETTING: Mid-afternoon the day after a small farmstead was burnt to the ground by a group of adventures from Elmshade (Hi'el Troiye, Riddick, Tessa, Celebril, Tararail) in combat with a contingent of undead composed of animal, normal and giant skeletons..
SETTING: ...normal and giant zombies, and several ghouls under the direction of a ghast. Observing and ensuring compliance with the Mistress' wishes was her loyal and most wicked pet, her quasit familiar Anh'kiadis, a minor demon servant. In the final ...
SETTING: ...stages of the battle when only the Ghast Commander and several of its Lieutenant Ghouls were left in the cellar of the farmstead to fight off the Elmshade adventurers, Kiadis helped during the battle to frighten off one of the 'mighty'....
SETTING: ...warriors (Hi'el) before leaving the Ghast and Ghouls to their demise and flying back to warn his Mistress of what happened. As he flew from the cellar, one of the adventures smote with her staff, and he stared his daggers of hatred at her, ...
SETTING: ...promising a wicked punishment for her impudence in striking him. Undamaged by the attack, Kiadis flew in bat form away to the northeast. Covering the many leagues to his Mistress' lair by full darkness, he flies over the fog enshrouded lake...
SETTING: ...heading to the island temple. Beneath him the fog and below the cold waters of lake lurked other legions of the undead... more zombies and skeletons... upon the island itself... shadows, powerful wights and mummies awaited any mortal....
SETTING: ...foolish enough to set foot on the island in search of his Vampyr Mistress.  As he approaches, the island he mentally announces his presence, calling out with his thoughts "Mistress!  Did you see!  Did you see!  The Elmshaders have ...
SETTING: ...destroyed one of your Ghast Companies!" He flies in through the main entrance of the Temple, they called home and changed to his 2' tall humanoid shape in her presence. (Elliana being the vampyr in control of all the undead knew of the ...
SETTING: ...company's destruction at the hands of the Elmshade adventurers through her mental link to the Ghast commanding it.)
Anh’Kiadis furls his black bat wings, rubbing his clawed hands together. He licks his dog like muzzle with a long black serpentine tongue, and walks over to his Mistress on crooked dog legs, dragging his black rat tail behind him. He looks up at Elliana, and ...
Anh’Kiadis ...petulantly tells her "Mistress, one of them struck me as I flew back here to warn you!" He points to his black furred wolf chest where no mark shows as the staff did him no harm.
Elliana gazes at the quasit coldly, relaxing in her chair, her long, toned legs draped seductively over an armrest. She strokes the other armrest with long, blood red nails, thinking. "Tell me more of these... warriors," she commands him in dulcet tones.
Elliana "I want to know all about them, Kiadis. Tell me what their weaknesses are...." she licks her lucious lips, thinking about the warm blood that surely pumps through the veins of the would-be heroes.
Elliana shifts a little in the chair, one slit of her dress sliding down a firm thigh to reveal even more smooth, pale skin. She trails a hand up her leg and looks at him with a sly smile, crooking a finger at him. "Come sit, Kiadis... here..."
Anh’Kiadis looks expectantly up at her with red serpent eyes, his tails flicking from side to side. He bobs his goat-horned head with large bat ears, saying "Yes, Mistress." He hops up on to her foot rest, and from there hops across to the chair, where...
Anh’Kiadis ...he squats down resting his clawed hands upon the pale skin of her firm thigh. In his growling voice, tells her "The horse-warrior, he was with them. He was the one I told you of. The horse-legged one who dusted the 'Daywalker Kain', the...
Anh’Kiadis ...hated one!" He strokes his clawed hands across her thighs in excitement at the remembered scent of Hi'el's blood. He perks his ears at the remembered name, saying "He is called Hi'el. I remembered!" getting more excited hopping from one ...
Anh’Kiadis ...padded dog foot to the other. He pants, letting his long black serpent tongue loll from his open bat fanged jaws. He sucks his tongue back in looking up at his Mistress, saying "She, mage-woman, called out his name when called his name he ...
Anh’Kiadis ...when he stabbed one of the others with his nasty sword! She, the mage-woman, casted the fireballs and hit me with her nasty staff! You let me have her, yes? I smell her virgin blood! I make her pay for hurting Anh'kiadis!" He looks up at her ...
Anh’Kiadis ...very hopefully.
Elliana rests her hand on her lap and waits for the imp to obey her, her icy blue eyes following his actions. She listens to his ranting and smiles a cool smile, still thinking about how painfully she would deal with the warriors of the small village.
Elliana "A virgin, hm?" her crafty smile widens slightly, revealing the points of her canines. "No. That one is for me," she says looking at him coldly so there is no chance for him to misunderstand her.
Elliana "You can have the horse man... Hi'el... and the others, if you wish. They are of no concern. They are nothing. We shall make them pay for what they have done to my followers, however. Did you follow them to see where they rest at night?" she strokes a cold,
Elliana pale hand over his fur and scratches him under his hairy chin, much as she would a cat.
Anh’Kiadis slumps down in a crouch pouting, his bat ears folded back looking up at her with the wounded 'quasit' look then brightens at the thought of 'having' the horse man. He gives a hissing croons, letting his serpent tongue slither out to lick her...
Anh’Kiadis ... hand. He growls out "Mistress there was a bullman with them! He fell to the ghouls. The armor knight also fell. The nasty elf fighter not go down. I go back and find, yes? I know smells, can find. I go, yes?"
Elliana narrows her eyes at the quasit and her lip curls into a snarl. Her grip starts to tighten on him painfully as her ire rises. "You didn't follow them?" she asks, displeased.
Elliana "I would have found them TONIGHT, Kiadis! Now I will have to wait HOURS for you to "find" them again!" Her nails dig into his skin a little bit and she growls deeply in her throat in anger.
Elliana "Must I do EVERYthing myself?" she spits out, shifting and pushing him from her lap. She rises from the chair and the dress clings to her sensuous form like a second skin.
Elliana The vampire begins to pace slowly, tapping her blood red nails in thought at her lips. She glares at the imp and narrows her eyes. "Leave me. Go FIND them, Kiadis. And be swift about it."
Anh’Kiadis squeeks in pain, tumbling from the chair to the floor "Eeeeeeee, Miiiisssstreessss, I warn you first! Then go find so you can know when warriors come out to attack other companies!"
Elliana frowns at him. "You did well to warn me, but you forget my power? I am not afraid of these 'would-be' heroes." she says coldly, her voice seeming to echo along the empty walls of the forgotten temple stones.
Elliana "They will pay for undoing all my hard work. SSsssssssssssss..." she hisses between her teeth in annoyance, and still paces, closing her eyes to sense the time of day from where they are, deep below the ground.
Elliana The vampiress opens her eyes again to stare at Ahn'Kiadis. "WHY are you still HERE?!"
Anh’Kiadis bobs his head to the floor, and leaps up in the air, changing to bat form. He rapidly flaps his wings and zips out of the Temple to fulfill her orders.

Elliana: "Gooooood..."
SETTING: The night is yet young being only an hour after sunset.

Elliana paces back to her seat and gracefully sits again, closing her eyes and thinking with relish about how she will devour the intruders and turn the woman. "I will make the men mine first," she thinks and strokes a smooth hand over her long leg,
Elliana resting it once more casually over the armrest, a favorite position of hers. "The woman... a virgin... mmmmm... delicious..." she continues to think such thoughts until Anh'Kiadis returns to inform her of the whereabouts of the villagers.
SETTING: The 13 leagues or 26 miles to Elmshade from her island lair takes her quasit three and a quarter hours of flight time to reach. It takes him only a little while to find both Hi'el by going to the Temple and picking up his scent there. Tessa....
SETTING: ...is found just as easily by prowling through the inn in his invisible state until he finds her scent and the room it most strongly concentrates in. He doesn't find any of the others after a total of two hours search time, and flies back to ....
SETTING: ...inform his Mistress, arriving at around two hours til sunrise.
Anh’Kiadis flaps back into the Temple, and settles onto the divan, changing to his humanoid form. He mentally calls to Elliana, saying "Mistress! I back, know where two tasty morsels stay the night." He looks around for Mistress panting heavily and very...
Anh’Kiadis ...tired from all the flying. He burps and licks his chops at the remembered tasty snack of a young human girl, now missing from Elmshade.
Elliana looks up as the quasit returns, aware of his exhausted state but not caring. "You did not find the others? Which ones did you locate, Kiadis?" she asks slowly, somewhat disappointed that her plans will have to wait until the next evening.
Anh’Kiadis looks at Elliana, and growls to her "No, Mistress. Only find virgin-mage and horse warrior. Virgin mage stay a local inn. Horse warrior stays on hallowed ground at the Temple in Elmshade. No signs of the other warriors."
Elliana The vampiress frowns at the mention of hallowed ground. "Hmmmm..." she growls. "How are we to lure the horse man away from the temple?" she narrows her icy blue eyes in thought and cracks her neck loudly. A crafty smile creeps across her visage and she
Elliana eyes Anh'Kiadis thoughtfully. "But if we have the girl, then perhaps the horse warrior will come to rescue her, hmmmm?"
Elliana "Yessssssss," she hisses with an evil grin. "I think that will work. And if she is foolish enough to stay at an Inn, then we shall be able to take her easily enough, riiiiight my pet?" She chuckles lowly in her throat and gradually her laughter gets
Anh’Kiadis was busily licking himself, when he hears his Mistress address him. He looks up from what he's doing, and cocks his head to the side, letting his tongue slither back into his fanged maw. He answers "Not know, he might."
Anh’Kiadis bobs his head 'yes' agreeing with the 'easy to get' part of her statement.
Elliana louder as she rubs her hands together slowly in wicked thought, plotting. "He will. If she is as beautiful as you say, and a virgin, then surely he will want to save her."
Anh’Kiadis nods his agreement, saying "Yes, horse warrior like virgin mage. I like virgin mage so he like virgin mage."
Elliana stands from the divan and stretches languidly, showing every exquisite inch of her feminine form perfectly. "You have done well, Anh'Kiadis," she purrs, pleased and assured that she will have vengeance and a meal before the next night's peak.
Elliana : "But I am going to rest now."
Anh’Kiadis asks "Mistress, I go back to observe and watch. Wait for you in Elmshade, yes?"
Elliana "Make sure you guard the entrance well tonight.... just in case they come looking." she warns. Then she floats towards the back room where her coffin waits. She pauses and turns to regard him again. "Hmmmm. Yes, that's a good idea. And see if you can find
Anh’Kiadis eyes travel over every inch of her feminine form, and as usual his male equipment grows excite by her attributes.
Elliana the others. I don't like loose ends, Kiadis. You know this. I will arrive tomorrow evening. You know where." With that, the beautiful vampire disappears into the darkness.
Anh’Kiadis bobs his head watching her disappear. He waits a few moments til the excitment dies down between his legs then leaps once more into the air, and wings away into the night back to Elmshade.
Anh’Kiadis flies from the Temple of his Mistress, and pulls up short, hovering in mid air, when the deep grating voice of his TRUE master, Orcus, commanded "NO, STOP. Follow the sound of my voice." The quasit bobs its head, and follows the voice to ....
Anh’Kiadis ... one of the Shadow Battalion's lairs. The Shadows all bow before the emissary and liaison of their Mistress Eliana and their God Orcus. In Anh'kiadis' mind, Orcus commands "You will take these items with you when you return to Elmshade. ...
Anh’Kiadis ... and shows mental images of a fine pair of white silk elbow length gloves woven with golden threading in an ornate web style pattern; a magnificent wine glass with a platinum base stretching up into four prongs to hold clear crystal insets..
Anh’Kiadis ... capped with a gold rim; a exquisitely crafted rectangular clear glass bottle with gem inlay strips of emerald, ruby and sapphire down the squared off corners, a gold base, a platinum cap with the wire pressure lock (special beer caps); ...
Anh’Kiadis ... and lastly, a plain brown clay potion bottle with a wax sealed top. In Anh'kiadis' mind, Orcus commands "You will take these to Elmshade. You will need them for the woman mage, a gift from a secret admirerer, arrange them in her room ...
Anh’Kiadis ... when she is out. Empty the potion into the pretty bottle. Now go." The quasit changes to his diminuitive humanoid form, and quickly gathers up the items in a sack. He ties this to his back, and takes bat form again winging back to ...
Anh’Kiadis ... Elmshade. "Damn, this stuff is heavy!" thought the quasit as he beat his wings back and forth heading in the gray twilight of dawn. He reaches Elmshade a couple of hours after dawn, and quickly lands on top of the Twisted Root Tavern ...
Anh’Kiadis ... where after changing back to his small humanoid form and safely hiding away the stuff he'd brought tiredly flops over on his back panting "I hate my job. This bitch better worth all the effort! Or I'm gonna show her what a real good time..
Anh’Kiadis ... I can be!" cupping his groin for emphasis. The quasit after resting gets up turning invisible, and quickly finds the open window of the woman's room. He lands on the window sill, and hatefully looks in at Tessa as she comfortably sleeps...
Anh’Kiadis ... the morning away. Anh thinks "Secret admirer... hmm, have to find flowers, and write something up... but what? I'd love to bite your tits? Your eyes look delicious? I like your fingers may I have one to snack on? Oh, my head hurts! I ...
Anh’Kiadis ... don't know why I always get the hard jobs! Let's see... think like the humans do... keep it simple... who's her secret admirer? Damn, damn, damn!!!" He get's up and quietly jumps down into her room to pad around it. He goes to where her..
Anh’Kiadis ... clothes lay, and sniffs at them, jerking back in surprise and thinking "Centaur!! And such a scrumptious Virgin!!" He looks up at the woman leacherously as his body reacts to the scent of her virgin fragrance. He thinks "Ewww, a centaur and her? What ...
Anh’Kiadis ... a slut! She likes the big boys, an auburn haired big boy by the look of it." as he pulls free a tail hair. He nods, and jumps back up to the sill, thinking "So, this should make things interesting." He waits for Tessa to awaken, and ...
Anh’Kiadis ... excitedly watches her nubile body when she does and as she goes about her preparations for the day before heading out of her room. He follows her down to the common room, and watches her paw through the treasure. As he's watching her...
Anh’Kiadis ... the quasit notices a silver serving tray used for special occassions by Jarlosh and Holga, and makes a mental note to filch that later. Finally Tessa leaves going to the Temple after her conversation with Jarlosh. It was time to act!
Tessa after arguing with the Silenni had stomped ungracefully up the stairs to her room in quite a snit. She opened the door to her room forcefully, and it hit the wall behind it with a loud 'bang!' but she didn't care.
GAME: The wind gently blows the curtains of window fluttering into the room with her entrance. On her dresser several candles burn which hadn't been there previously when she'd left. Nor had the silver serving tray, pair of white gloves, the fancy ...
GAME: ... drinking glass, the beautiful bottle of 'wine', the bouquet of wild flowers wrapped with long auburn strands of what looks like horse hair from its tail, and a small sheet of paper that says "Thank you" in rough writing.
Tessa's emerald eyes widen in utter shock upon seeing the things in her room that hadn't been there previously. With a sense of wonder and curiosity, she tilts her head and slowly walks up to the dresser, studying the candles first. They were still lit,
Tessa which meant that whoever had left these things had been here recently. Curious. She looked at the tray, with all of its contents, and then smiled as she picked up the flowers, bringing them to her pert nose to inhale their fragrance. She
Tessa closed her eyes and took a deep breath, then opened them again and read the note. Her intelligent gaze caught the fact that the bouquet had been wrapped in long, aubrun hairs... and immediately a picture of Kaiyel came to mind. Her eyes flicked to
Tessa the gloves, the exquisite drinking glass and bottle, and she gently set the flowers down nearby on the dresser. "Hmmmmmm," she wondered aloud to herself. The beautiful blonde bit her lip in indecision as her caution warred with her curiosity. She
Tessa very much wanted to try on the gloves, but there was an alarm ringing in the back of her mind that she couldn't quite ignore. "If Kaiyel was in here," she thought to herself, "How come he didn't wait? Why didn't Holga at least tell me he was here?"
Tessa sighed to herself and picked up the gloves anyway, examining the fine craftsmanship of embroidery on them. They looked extremely expensive and she found herself wondering where Kaiyel had acquired them. On a whim, she studied them for runes,
GAME: Tessa also remembers Kaiyel met with clergy of the Temple at night to avoid contact with humans, and it would be near impossible for a centaur to have come up the stairs to her room.
Tessa thinking perhaps they might be magical, but didn't notice any right off, so she set them down again. Next she handled the gorgeous goblet, turning it to catch the light in the crystal prisms of its sides. She frowned to herself, thinking that her
GAME: The gloves are of very fine silk and craftsmanship, but there are no arcane markings on them.
Tessa first hunch about who had left the gifts might have been wrong. She hadn't told Kaiyel that she drank wine. Strange. But she had to admit that the glass was beautiful, nonetheless. Next, her attention was drawn to the bottle with the precious gems
Tessa thought to herself that whoever had left the gifts obviously either knew her tastes or had excellent taste themselves. She traced a slender finger up the jeweled sides of the bottle, noticing that it was stoppered and sealed. Curious, she opened
GAME: The bottle is not large, and the liquid contents would be at most a swallow or three at most.
Tessa the bottle to get a whiff of the fragrance of the liquid inside.
GAME: The full bodied fragrance of a dry wine comes from the mouth of the bottle in a fine mist when it's opened. (roll %d)
Tessa tks % is 97
GAME: The fragrance of the wine is nothing short of tantalizing to her pallate.
Tessa smiles as she smells the sweetness of the wine, and salivates at the thought of drinking it. Still.... it was left by someone she didn't know. Tessa's delicate lips pursed in thought and she frowned again. The whole fact that someone had been in
Tessa her room while she was gone, and possibly going through her things bothered her. The fact that Holga hadn't mentioned it was strange to her, as well. Surely the woman, ugly and crude as she was, wouldn't have allowed a complete stranger to simply
Tessa enter her room. Tapping a slim finger against her lip, she set the bottle down and decided to go ask the tavern's barmaid a few questions. She left her room and walked downstairs again, seeking out the hefty woman.
Tessa "Holga! Holga, where are you?" she called out as she hit the bottom step, scanning the room.
GAME: Jarlosh comes out of the back from the kitchen, and tells the young woman, "She down at the general store placing a resupply order. She'll be back before the dinner rush hour. There something I can help you with?"

Melanie nodded and grabbed the dirty dishes from the night before, shouldering her bag and moving down the stairs to the Twisted Root's common room. She spied a pale Tessa sitting at a table by the fire and set the dishes on the long, wooden bar. Holga came waddling over and Melanie ordered some cinnamon toast to eat on her way to the Temple. Then the young priestess walked over to where Tessa was nursing a glass of water and watching the fire. The debutante looked up as Melanie approached.

"Well, I'm glad to see you're better," the acolyte smiled at her. Tessa nodded slowly, though the smile she returned was lacking warmth. "Yes, thank you. I suppose I have you and Hi'el to thank for that. I'm not even sure what made me so sick, but I think it might have been the wine." Melanie watched her for a minute and then frowned slightly. "Maybe you shouldn't drink, then," she suggested. "And maybe you should tell Jarlosh to make certain the wine isn't affecting others the same way. If he's gotten a bad batch--"

Tessa interrupted the priestess, shaking her head. "--No, it wasn't wine from here...well, that is, I don't think it was from here, although I guess it could have been. But the wine here at the Twisted Root has never made me so ill before. It was that wine that was left for me on my nightstand." The blonde beauty shrugged her shoulders and sighed, then took a drink of her water. Her pale green eyes lit up and she smiled as she saw Hi'el descend the stairs and enter the room.

~ ~ ~ Mielikki's Shadoweir slowly followed in the wake of Her Accolyte as his mind turned to the Quest ahead of him.  He mentally reviewed what he'd learned from Mother Siannodell about the Quest, and carefully descended the staircase of the Twisted Root, his polished, mahogany-brown hooves heavily clopped upon them announcing his presence.  The village of Dace to which he was to travel was located approximately 150 miles west of Elmshade and the High Forest in the mountain foothills, almost at the very shores of the Sea of Swords north of Waterdeep.  He followed Melanie to the table where Tessa sat, thinking the abbey, which overlooked the village, was where Siannodell had left Lillineth to be raised.  Hi'el stared into Tessa's smiling, pale green, which reminded him that Lillineth would have Nethariel's green eyes, a half-elven cast to her appearance and strawberry-blonde hair. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ The young Silenni returns Tessa's smile with his own, and naively asks "Someone left you the wine in your room?  How strange."  He glances at Melanie, wondering what she thought about that, and continues on his light baritone voice, saying "In anycase it's good to see you up and about Tessa.  You gave me... [mental image of Hi'el coming up the stairs] us quite a scare last night, but you appear to have beaten whatever ailment laid you low.  It's a good thing I brought you back those owl feathers you needed for that spell, or no telling when or who would've found you." ~ ~ ~

Tessa was nodding as Hi’el spoke, in complete agreement, but then she stopped and looked at him with a puzzled expression. She set her water glass down on the table and stared into Hi’el’s face, searching his own green eyes with her own. "But I thought...you mean...but it had to be you," she said incoherently, her sentence not making any sense. The young mage looked completely baffled. "I thought for sure it was you, Hi’el, who left me the wine. I thought it was either you or...or Kaiyel...but..." her voice faded and she frowned uneasily.

Melanie was also frowning and she laid a gentle hand on Tessa’s arm. "What made you think it was Hi’el who left it for you, Lady Tessa? And do you make it a habit of drinking wine left by unknown people?" she asked, her brown eyes flicking to Hi’el with a look that said she thought maybe the noble-woman wasn’t totally back to her normal self just yet. Tessa saw the look and snorted with arrogance, pulling her arm away from the acolyte’s touch. She glared snottily at Melanie. "Well, it had to be one of those two," she said, rolling her eyes. "The long brownish-red hairs that were wrapped around..." again she trailed off and closed her eyes, rubbing her temples. Melanie instantly looked concerned. "Are you sure you’re feeling well, Lady Tessa? Perhaps you should go back to your room and lie down a bit longer?"

Again, the debutante sniffed with a stuck-up attitude. "Tsk. Don't you patronize me. I don’t think so. I’ve had enough sleep for now." Tessa quickly finished her water and stood, pushing her chair back with a scrape. She looked at Hi’el and gave him a sincere half-smile. "Thanks for everything, Hi’el. Thanks for making sure I was okay, and thanks for the owl feathers, and..." she stopped and sighed, then looked to the young priestess with a grudging attempt at gratitude. "Thank you, Melanie, for helping Hi’el make sure I was okay. I have to go find Kaiyel and find out if he was the one who left me that wine and the ...and the other things," she finished mysteriously. Then she took her glass to the counter and walked back upstairs to her room to gather a few things before setting out for the Temple’s Garden to try and locate her centaur friend.

Melanie shook her head as she watched the other woman go, then she looked at the Silenni. "A little touchy, isn’t she?" she asked. "Must be nice to be so spoiled and never have to worry about how you treat people." She shrugged and promptly dismissed the incident. "Should I wait for you? If you want, we can walk to the Temple together."

~ ~ ~ When Tessa critically studied his gaze, the young Silenni furrowed his brow, lifting both eyebrows, equally puzzled by the debutante's implications, that he'd brought her the wine.  Hi'el clears his throat to deny anything to do with the wine, and state his activities since they'd parted earlier last afternoon. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ However when Melanie and Tessa start verbally jousting, the Shadoweir thinks better of saying anything, and unconsciously folds his equine ears back and twitches his luxurious tail from side to side, the only outward signs, that the Silenni was growing upset by the womens' fractious exchange.  At last when Tessa's nature turns more gracious and thankful, Hi'el relaxes from his unconsciously tense posture, his charming ears sharply flicking forward, and returning her smile with one of his own, tells the Lady Mage as she turned away from them "You're most welcome, Tessa.  And I'm glad you are feeling better, and sorry it was not I who brought you the wine.  Fare thee well in your endeavours, and I hope we meet again once I return from Mielikki's Quest."  The Shadoweir watches Tessa vanish up the stairs, and answers Melanie's comments, saying "Touchy, I guess that's one way of describing her.  No, you needn't wait.  Let us be on our way to the Temple.  I'm anxious to begin this Quest." ~ ~ ~

As Melanie and Hi’el left the shadows of the Twisted Root’s interior, they could immediately tell that something strange was happening. There seemed to be a veritable flock of people down the road in the central merchant area of the small town. There was a general commotion that reached the two friends’ ears, the quiet buzz of a large group of excited people. Concerned, Melanie gave the Silenni a quizzical look. "It looks like the whole town’s out!" she remarked. "I wonder what’s going on?" The priestess picked up her pace to a fast walk until she reached the edges of the crowd.

As the young woman carefully wove her way through the throng of people, her attention was soon drawn to the pointing fingers and worried murmurs of those conversations she could make out. Her brown eyes filled with fear as she noticed the large, black column of smoke coming from the direction of the Alliance of the Faiths Temple...her home! "Oh my Goddess!" she exclaimed, looking around for her companion. "Hi’el! The temple’s on fire! We have to go, Come ON!" Melanie pushed past a couple of farmers and paused only briefly as she brushed by a .... minotaur?! What in Mielikki’s holy name was a minotaur doing here in Elmshade?! She blinked and kept going, her walk turning into a sprint as she raced down the road towards the Temple.

Tessa registered Hi’el’s words to her as she turned and walked back upstairs. It occurred to her that the Shadoweir’s tone suggested that he thought he might not ever see her again, and she paused with one smooth hand on the door to her room. Tessa frowned and almost turned back, almost descended the steps to stop him before he left the tavern...but then she decided against it. Surely she would see him before he left...on a quest for Mielikki? She found herself wondering. Gods, isn’t that just like him? Off on some ‘holy quest’ for his Goddess. The noble-woman rolled her eyes and stepped inside her room, gathering the gloves, the spell-book and decanter into her small back-pack. As she sat on the edge of the bed, carefully placing things inside the cloth pack, her light green eyes studied the condition of it. The straps were fraying and there was some residual black-brown goop all over the outside of it...probably remnants of the undead we fought at the farmstead. Tessa’s delicate lips curled in distaste at the memory, and she tied the pack shut.

Then she readjusted the magical boots that somehow perfectly fit her dainty feet and made sure to tuck the owl-feathers Hi’el had brought into one of the few pouches at her petite waist. Ready to go, Tessa closed the door to her room and locked it, then stopped by the bar on her way out to pay her tab and give the key to Holga for safe-keeping. The ugly bar-maid seemed a bit distracted this morning, but Tessa paid no attention. When she exited the Inn a few minutes after Hi’el and Melanie, she was also puzzled by the crowd at the end of the road.

Like the others, it didn’t take her long to discover what the excitement was all about. She caught snatches of conversations and frowned deeper with each piece of information gleaned in this way. "...some sort of monster." From a farmer’s wife: "...and they ain’t even been able to stop it yet, even with the tree-folk helpin’ em!" One of the younger guards, "...we’re not sure about where the Cap’n is, but we’re gonna find him and help those poor people at the temple!" Tessa’s mind whirled in consternation as she made her way through the crowd. As the debutante got to the front and the road to the temple opened up in front of her, she spied a large, familiar figure moving quickly into the distance. There was no mistaking the shaggy bull-head and the rippling tower of muscles that had been her first introduction to the minotaur race. "RIDDIK!" she yelled, running towards him.

~ ~ ~ The Quest wasn't the only thing about which Hi'el was anxious, getting out of the Twisted Root ranked right up there second in priority.  The MOSTLY sleepless night spent couped up INDOORS with two beautiful women, a not wholly undesireable situation by any stretch of the imagination but for the circumstances which prompted its occurence, had left the claustrophobic Silenni tense and irritable.  And Lady Tessa's naturally acerbic character, masquerading as 'nobility', hadn't helped improve his mood any this morning.  However, upon stepping outside onto the wood-planked porch of the Twisted Root, the young Shadoweir released a deep sigh of relief as the claustrophobic tension, weighing his spirit down, slipped like a heavily laden yoke from his shoulders. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ While standing on the porch taking in the 'fresh' morning air, which smelled strangely of smoke and the diffused sunlight filtering through the curious, hazy [smoky] layer hanging over the village, Hi'el brushes the silver buckle on his weapon belt, and conceals his equine Silenni features from general view beneath the magical illusion of billowy black satiny pants and shiny, leather boots.  He suppresses a yawn, covering his mouth, and slowly follows after Melanie down the road toward the main market square.  The young Silenni shakes his head not knowing what to make of the crowd of townspeople gathered in the market place when the Accolyte pointed out the mob.  He had very little knowledge about the day to day activities of the Elmshaders, so for all Hi'el knew, the gathering was a normal event... somekind of fair or flea markets, places which the Silenni found uncomfortable to visit for very long. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ On approach to the milling mass of townspeople, they part as the tall Shadoweir walks among them, facillitating his easy passage through the crowd toward the road leading to the Temple.  As Hi'el moved among the inhabitants of Elmshade, the absence of any performer tents and market stalls immediately discounted any indication that this gathering was for a fair or flea market, and raised the question in his mind 'What IS going on?'  Just as he noticed the direction people were pointing, the Silenni heard Melanie's exclamation about the Temple burning, and sharply snapping his gaze in the direction of the holy place of worship, can only stare in stunned disbelief.  A view that Hi'el had become accustomed to seeing everyday since coming to Elmshade... the peaks and gables, the greenery and vegetation, the walls of stone, the doors and stainglass... all of those beautiful things were gone!  ...laid waste!  But ALL that could be rebuilt, but what of...  "SIANNODELL!!" he gasps. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ With his whole world narrowed down to the indescribable scene of destruction, Hi'el singlemindedly plowed through the townsfolk, roughly shoving them aside left and right, bypassing unnoticed one tall black minotaur, and once free of the crowd, racing to the rubbled ruins of the Temple at his swiftest pace [72].  The Silenni frantically looked for the High Priestess, terribly worried that he'd failed her and Mielikki even before beginning the Quest he'd been set upon. ~ ~ ~

His large bovine head swung around just as his black hooves skidded to a stop. Riddik looked back to see the approaching woman, sticking his two handed long sword into the ground. He smiled as he recognized Tessa approaching, finally able to see a familiar face around here. His deep voice answers her back, his large hand resting on the pommel of his sword... "Hey Tess! Long time no see." He chuckles a moment before thumbing behind him tward the Temple. "What the hecks goin on at the Temple? Is Hiel there?"
His question suddenly answered as the Sellini rushed past him and tward the Temple. He looked back to Tessa and shook his head, then ran after Hiel.

"I don’t..." Tessa began to answer the minotaur and then Melanie ran by them, followed closely by Hi’el. When the large bull-man took off after them, his hooves pounding into the dirt road in his haste to get to the Temple, Tessa started to protest, then realized that she wouldn’t be able to talk to either of them until they discovered what in the nine levels of the Abyss was happening at the Alliance of the Faiths temple. So the beautiful young woman ran after them, gauging the quality of her new boots as she ran, wondering with a sense of dread what they would find when they reached the holy building.

I don't wanna fight more undead, she whined to herself, remembering the last time. Please, no more disgusting undead, she silently prayed to Mystra. I don't think I could do it again. The thoughts gnawed at her as she took long strides with her atheltic legs, catching up to the others. Had more undead appeared? Were there giant skeletons, even now, fighting against the priests at the temple? Would they be too late as reinforcements?

((Find out these things and more as we follow our heroes and they join forces with those already assembled in the thread Fire and Light! See you guys over there!))

Time: Pre-dawn (and pre-emergence of Hi'el, Melanie and Tessa), 1 hour to sunrise

 - - - Anh'Kiadis sensed his Mistress' excitment, and when she still wanted the sacks, for whatever reason he didn't have a clue about, sighs in ecstatic relief that he would NOT be deprived of the enjoyment and malicious fun of slaughtering whatever occupants he found, which was how all lesser demons amassed the power to evolve into more powerful demons!  The wicked Quasit quickly arrives back at Elmshade's small, little-backwater, Country Store also known as the Conrad's General Market which was home to Willis (5hp, asleep) & Alice (5hp, awake in the kitchen) & their 3 boys Nick (age 12, hps 5, asleep), Jared (age 9, hps 4, asleep), Heath (age 5, hp 1 sickly, delirious in the kitchen) [Nick, Jared, Heath! There's a fire in the barn! Aunty Em, we've got a twister! A twister!]. - - -

 - - -  Around the General Store, the evil Familiar loops, checking for any signs the inhabitants were awake.  He notices the smoke issuing from the stone chimney, leading down into the kitchen and light shining from the windows of the kitchen, but everything else was dark.  Anh'Kiadis gives a toothy fanged bat smile as a most diabolic idea comes to him.  He lands on the top of the chimney, and changes to his demonic humanoid shape before climbing down over the edge into the hot, smoky entrance into the house.  The heat and smoke, though not quite so brimstonish, made the demonic Familiar feel right at home like he was back in the Abyss.  While stealthfully creeping down the stone chimney flue, "Yesssss, I llllikkke thisss! Sssso pppperrrfecct! What sssweet trrreatsss willl I fffinnnddd?" sibilantly whispered the fiendish Quasit to himself as he drew closer to the snapping and crackling fire burning in the fireplace. - - -

 - - - At the mouth of the flue into the fireplace, Anh froze in place as a human hand holding a spoon stretched forth to stir the simmering pot, cooking over the fire, and watched intently, until it withdrew before making his final descent to the edge of the fireplace.  The goat-horned, bat-eared, mixed bat & canine fanged, dog head of the Quasit peered upside-down out into the kitchen with its glowing, luminescent, yellow, snake eyes, and lets slither out its long, black, snake tongue to scent at the woman grinding up some medicinal herbs at the table where her youngest son lay in feverish-delirium, swaddled in blankets.  Alice, her back to the fire place and glowing set of eyes coldly boring into her, was tending Heath, who'd caught the fever from swimming in the chill waters of the stream that flows by the Holy Shrine of Mielikki. - - -

 - - - Anh'Kiadis devised a quick plan after looking the kitchen over for a few brief moments.  He securely lodges himself inside the roof of the fire place, and turns invisible before reaching down to quietly lift the hot cooking pot off the hoist. He sniffs and samples the contents of the pot with his snake tongue, and crinkles his nose at the unpleasant scent, shaking his head making a 'bleah' face.  The Quasit lifts the iron pot over its head, and patiently waits for the woman to notice her missing cooking pot and return to the fire place. - - -

 - - - Ehliana's Familiar didn't have long to wait as Alice Conrad finishes grinding up the medicine for her son's soup, and upon turning back to the empty fire place with the ground up herbs, exclaims in shock "WHAT!!"  Upon hearing the tired woman's gasp of shock, Anh'Kiadis smiles devilishly, and to lure the woman to the fire place, sloshes a little of the medicinal concoction out of the pot, causing hisses of steam when it pours into the flames of the crackling fire.  The completely distraught mother of a sick child, unsuspecting of anything posing a threat to her, moves to the fire place, and almost hysterical, wildly looks inside it for the cooking pot with the medicinal broth her son needed, asking "The pot, where's the pot?!"  The moment the woman's head comes in view, Anh swings down holding the pot by the rim, and "BONK!!!!!" clobbers Alice square in the brain pan, laying her out unconscious on the kitchen floor. - - -

 - - - The Quasit, visible after his attack, drops into the flames and soup-steam of the fire place completely at ease in the burning heat, and surrounded by flames, transforms into a large, jet-black wolf with glowing, venomous-yellow eyes, reflecting back the flames as it stares down at the woman and then young Heath, who was too delirious to realize the danger he faced.  The black wolf leaps from the fire place, and pads around the kitchen making a closer examination of all the implements at his disposal for slaughtering the Conrad family.  It was feeding time for the Quasit, and first up on the menu was human, woman, middle-aged.  - - -

 - - -  Anh'Kiadis moves toward the unconscious house-wife, transforming into his small demonic form, and ripping the clothing from her, proceeds to use the apparel to tie and gag Alice, who thankfully remains cooperative and unconscious.  The Familiar was in Abyssal Paradise with the feast he was about to enjoy, but first had to ensure he could feed without interruption, meaning it was time to subdue the rest of the family before they awoke.  The Quasit, in his raspy, sibilant voice, begins quietly and happily singing to himself a little ditty, he'd heard ages and ages ago, "Thisss isss the wayyy we killll the ffffammmilyyyy, killll the ffffammmilyyy, killlll the fammmilyyyy.  Thisss isss the wayyyy we killlll the ffffammmilyyyyy, sssso earlyyyy innn the mmmornnningggg!" as he prowls up to the table where the delirious boy, Heath lay insensate to the world. - - -

 - - - Hopping up onto the table to stand over the ailing youngster, delirious though the youth might have been, the nightmarish figure of Anh was enough to set the child to issuing a single piercing screaming [Willis still asleep, Alice still unconscious, Nick (goes to investigate) and Jared (goes back to sleep) awoken; Others interested in joining (Orion maybe), keep in mind pre-dawn conditions (why would you be up?), and send me a %d roll to detect (17% or less = exact location, 34% or less = heard the scream general location of market square)] before the Quasit placed a small clawed hand over his mouth silencing him.  Anh'Kiadis sibilantly whispers, "HUSSSSH!!!!! Littttle baaabyyy! We mussssnnn'tttt wwwaakkke the ottthhherrrs!" and immediately kills Heath, biting out his throat and absorbing his life energy and vital fluids from his body. - - -

 - - - As the boy's body shrivels up into a descicated husk, his skull assuming a death's head rictus grin and his clouded-over eyeballs shrink in their sockets staring horrified and sightlessly upward, the Familiar grows slightly more robust, his limbs and body filling out with a bit more mass.  Anh growls out in pleasure "YESSSS!!!!!  Sssso gooddd!!!  Ssssswwwweeeettt appetizzzerrr!!!  Musssttt havvve MORE!!!" rolling his eyes in ecstasy as he makes his first human kill in many weeks, whipping his rat-like tail excitedly back and forth.  The Quasit leaves the dried-up corpse lying on the table, and grabbing one of the hanging, iron-cooking skillets from its hook, hops down to the floor, his clawed, rat-like feet clicking on the tile floor as he walked to the entrance into the kitchen from the rest of the combination home and store.  - - -

 - - - The Vampire's Familiar hops up onto the countertop beside the doorway into the kitchen, and fades to invisibility with the skillet held in his clawed hands, waiting for the next wonder victim to venture through entrance as he was fairly sure the kid's scream might bring others of the family to investigate.  Again the Quasit's wait was not long, as the oldest son, Nick, having come downstairs, walked through the door, yawning, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes and calling "Momma?  Wha...", and "BONK!!!!!" down he went pile driven to the floor unconscious with an over head swing of the iron skillet to the top of his head [Willis ever the sound sleeper, Alice still unconscious, Jared (still awake, heard the sound made by the skillet, and becomes curious)].  "Good bbboyyy!  Plllayyy deaddd." happily hissed Anh'Kiadis, again visible after putting the naughty boy back to 'sleep', and turns invisible once more, softlying singing "Thisss isss the wayyy we killll the ffffammmilyyyy, killll the ffffammmilyyy, killlll the fammmilyyyy.  Thisss isss the wayyyy we killlll the ffffammmilyyyyy, sssso earlyyyy innn the mmmornnningggg!"  The invisible Quasit hops down from the countertop with his trusty iron skillet, and wanders down the hallway to the base of the stairs that led up to the bedrooms to await his next choice morsel.  - - -

 - - - Jared, impressionable and adventurous from living in a town full of heroic adventurers and role-models, heard the strange, whispered, sibilant singing coming from downstairs, and silently crept from his room and down the stairs, showing true promise as a prospective thief from the way he moved.  Slowing to a stop ten steps from the bottom of the stairs, where death awaited him, the young boy froze as some innner sense of wrongness and danger 'crept' over him, making the short hairs on his neck stand on end and telling him there was something there in the darkness that he couldn't see waiting to get him.  A pressing urgency to pee grew in Jared as he stood frozen on the stairs, trying to decide whether to flee or confront his fear as merely his vivid imagination playing tricks on him.  However the latent instinct for preservation was stronger, telling him THERE WAS DANGER, the youngster cautiously backed up the stairs never taking his eyes from darkness at the base of the stairs, and carefully placed each barefoot on the steps where he knew they would NOT make a sound.  Nick figured he could prove it was his imagination by backing up the stairs, and make whatever danger he believed was there come up the stairs to get him, which if almost anyone other than himself climbed them would squeak... ? - - -

 - - - "Eirrrrnnnnn." squeaked one of the bottom steps as pressure was applied to it, and adventurous though Jared may have been some modicum of common sense was graced him as he immediately turned and fled up the stairs, yelling in the shrill decibile tones of a frightened prepubescent boy "Daa!!!  Daa!!!  Monster!!!  Monster!!". [Willis still soundly asleep, Alice still unconscious, Heath still dead ;), Nick still unconscious, send me a %d roll (40% chance to pin-point, 80% chance to hear general market place)]  Anh'Kiadis watched, as the boy crept stealthily down the stairs and stoppped ten steps from the bottom, and cocked his head to the side curious as to why the child had stopped and then started backing up.  The Quasit could smell the delicious scent of the boy's palpable fear sweating from his pores, and starts to climb the stairs after him, causing the aforementioned squeak to sound in the house and prompting the boy's screaming flight to where the father soundly slept.  Ehliana's Familiar grins in delight, sibilantly whispering "Yessss, runnn, ssscccammmppperr awwwayyy, annddd hhhhiddde, lllittttlllle rrrrabbbbittttt." and follows the potent scent of the child's fear and his trail of urine up the creaking steps "Eirrrrnnnnn, sssrrrreeekkk." straight to the closed door of the room into which he'd fled. - - -

 - - - On the other side of the door, Anh listens to the boy bouncing on the bed, earnestly shaking and quietly pleading with his father "Daa!!!  Daa!!!  Wake up!!  Wake up!!  There's a monster in the house!!  It's coming to get US!!" and in response, Willis Conrad grumbles back "Huh?  What?  Oh, for pity's sake, Jared, damn it boy!  You were having a nightmare!" looking at the window to see it was still dark outside.  Jared protests saying "NO, Daa!!  Please!  Not a nightmare!  Real!!  We have to get help... did you hear that?" as strange scrabbling sounds come from outside the door, when unbeknownst to them, the Quasit had climbed the wall to hang from the rafter over the doorway to attack whomever emerged with the skillet.  Willis did hear the sounds, and looked perplexed at the door then at his son, giving him a head nod that he had heard the noises.  The shopkeeper loudly exclaims "Son, it's just your imagination!" while getting out of the creaking bed, and grabs up the stout wood cane he used on long walks, telling the boy "Just let me get my trousers on, and then we'll go prove you're imagining things, Jared.  Make yourself useful, go light that lamp."  Immediately upon uttering those words, Willis throws open the door to try surprising whatever might have made the sounds, and attempts to leap out into the hallway with the cane raised overhead to swing at anything he sees. - - -

 - - - But "BONK!!!!!" the human just wasn't quick enough on opening the door and leaping out into the hallway before Anh'Kiadis slammed the flat of the skillet right in Willis' face sending him reeling back into the room crashing down on Alice's makeup table splintering it into kindling and shattering the mirror.  Hurt with a broke nose, but not down and out, the Father nasally yells "JARED!!  Run!  Get help!" while struggling to rise as the flesh around his eyes start to turn black and blue and swell up leaving him practically blind.  Jared stands paralyzed in surprise and fear, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water, staring up at the top of the doorframe where two glowing, venomous-yellow, snake eyes stare down at him and a sibilant voice whispers "Noo wwwhhherrre to rrrunnn lllittttlllllle rrrrabbbbittttt, and nnnooooo hhhelllpppp ffforrr you!!"  The Quasit, still hanging upside down from the rafter, rocks backward holding the handle of the skillet in both clawed hands below his demonic head, and on rocking forward, flings the skillet like a throwing axe at the young boy.  The skillet rotates through the air across the room, and "DUINK!!!!!" plows a furrow down the middle of the kid's sternum, rocking him back against the side of the bed then crumpling him to the floor, gasping for breath.  The Familiar grabs the door frame, and swings through the door, making a backwards sommersault before landing in the room on his clawed rat-like feet and throwing his arms wide, joyously exclaiming "Taadaa!!  Noo appllllausssse, thhhannnkkk yyyou, jusssttt yyyourrr LLLIVVVESSS!" - - -

Time: Pre-dawn (and pre-emergence of Hi'el, Melanie and Tessa), half hour to sunrise

 - - - [Willis broke nose and eyes mostly swelled shut, Alice regaining consciousness (still tied up), Nick still unconscious, Jared conscious but stunned (breath knocked out of him)] From the wreckage of the destroyed, make-up table with pieces of broken mirror tinkling to the floor, Willis Conrad, through bleary, tearing eyes, watches the distorted image of the small demonic figure whirl through the air to land on the floor between he and his injured son.  The middle aged man snarls in rage at the demonic intruder and self-recrimination at himself for not believing his son's warning.  He grabs up one of the broken legs of the table, and throws himself at the Vampire's Familiar.  Willis nasally roars, "I'LL KILL YOU, YOU SON OF BITCH!!!" and dives onto Anh'Kiadis, slamming the little Quasit to the floor UNHARMED due to his nature.  Unfortunately, the Store Keeper didn't know what kinda critter he was fighting as he futilely beat at the Abyssal creature with the table leg without causing harm to it. - - -

 - - - The small Quasit hisses at the man, saying "You'll havvve ttto tttrrryyy hhharrrderrr tttthhhannn ttthhhattt!" then viciously retalliates with its sharp claws and teeth.  One claw rips across Willis' face, leaving bloodied shreds from the bridge of his nose clear to the left ear while the other slashes up his right bicep toward the shoulder, causing the old man to lose his grip on the impromptu club.  For the coups de grace, Anh'Kiadis bites with its large canine like muzzle into the Shop Keeper's mouth and cheeks, giving him the bloodiest french kiss of death!  Willis Conrad gives a muffled scream of pain and horrified fear for his family, making an impassioned prayer for help [God Call successful, 02% (Wow, well, what to you know someone was listening, didn't expect that.  Hmm, alright, seems like a good place to bring in Ash Blackmane, so let it be the Goddess Selune.)] as he felt his life begin to slip away. - - -

 - - - As they struggled on the floor, a pair of spectral, feminine eyes opens in the orb of the moon, strangely causing the light shining through the bedroom window to intensify as they looked on at the life and death struggle.  The Moonmaiden, having heard the plea of one of Her Worshippers and witnessed the dire straights of the Conrads, finds one of Her Favorites travelling under Her Light in a distant land of the world, and like a magnifying glass, a ring of bright, moon light contracts around Ash Blackmane until all he can see is whiteness.  At the same time, in the bedroom of Willis and Alice Conrad, more blinding whiteness fills the room along with a soft sultry voice, saying "Your prayer is answered, Willis.  Save them, Seeker.  You have MY Blessing [Aid & Protection from Evil]."  In the background of the Goddess' voice, Anh'Kiadis shakes and screams aloud "Aaaa!  Aaaa!  Ittt burrrnnnsss!! Ittt burrrnnnsss!!" in pain [3 hps] from the Holy White Radiance filling the room and 'burning' him. - - -

 - - - Soon the White Radiance and the Voice of the Goddess' Selune fade from the bedroom of Willis and Alice Conrad leaving one smoking, slightly burnt and quivering Quasit on the floor outlined in a glowing moonlight radiance [Faerie Fire], AND the Help the Shop Keeper had prayed for in the form of Ash Blackmane, a young man of no more than eighteen winters old.  The human stands less than six feet, weighing perhaps 170 pounds, with long black hair and eyes, and dessed in high, soft leather boots, dark gray in color, brown leather pants, a pale shale green shirt, and a deep emerald green cloak.  The young man carries in his hands an Iron-shod Staff, and has a pair of Elven-made Long Daggers at his waist. - - -

Ash Blackmane (White Wolf of the Winter Sun), Seeker-Ranger, and Cloud (Albino Friesian Stallion)

 - - - Not surprised by the sudden translocation from far across the continent of Faerun near the City of Westgate to the far western reaches of the High Forest NOR the situation in which he found himself, Ash takes immediate advantage of the discomfitted situation of the Quasit, and none too gently smashes the cold-iron shod end of his staff against Anh'Kiadis' throat [5 hps], sending the Vampire's Familiar skidding across the floor to thump up against the bedroom door jam.  "Gaa!  Ga!  GAA!" gags Anh as he claws at his crushed throat, and upon seeing, through panic-stricken, venomous-yellow, serpent eyes, the Warrior enshrouded in spectral, moon-lit radiance, hoarsely croaks "Aaaggg!" in fear.  The demonic humanoid's form blurs as it changes into a large black wolf, and scrabbles its way into the hallway fleeing from Ash Blackmane.  The Seeker crosses the room after the Quasit, delivering a parting blow to the fleeing Familiar, and strikes it across the back of its hind leg at the knee joint [6 hps], evoking a hoarse yelp "Rrrrppp!" of pain.  Anh'Kiadis turns invisible, his form wavering out of sight, but his wolfish form remained outlined in silver luminescence as he raced down the stairs pursued by the Ranger.  Ash Blackman vaults over the stair railing of the second floor, and lithely lands midway down on the steps as the silver outlined silohuette of the wolfish Quasit made the 'U' turn at the bottom of the stair making bee-line for the kitchen. - - -

 - - - [Willis unconscious and knocking on death's door, Alice conscious (struggling to free herself), Nick regaining consciousness, Jared conscious but stunned by the Visitation of the Goddess] Lying in the middle of the doorway into the kitchen, young Nick comes to very groggy, and in great pain with a huge throbbing knot on top of his head.  Disoriented and whimpering at the horrible blacksmith hammer using his head for an anvil, the young boy struggles with his uncoordinated limbs, trying to stand, and almost makes it to his feet when the silvery outline of Anh'Kiadis in wolf form bowls him, sending him flying back shrilly screaming "Daaaaaddddddddddddyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!" onto the kitchen.  Behind the fleeing the Quasit, the Seeker smoothly lands at the bottom of the stairs having leaped from the mid-way point on the stair case, and continues chasing Anh.  The Vampire's Familiar, hardly breaking stride from his collision with the child, leaps at the fire place changing in mid-air to its small demonic form, and lands unharmed among the flames, sending a shower of sparks and embers out into the kitchen.  Arriving just in time to see the little demon creature disappear up the flue, Ash smashes through the back kitchen door out into storage yard of the General Store, and looks up at the chimney at the exact moment sparks, flames and smoke belches up from it, giving birth to the silvery outline of a large bat frantically winging away to the northeast. - - -

Time: Starting pre-dawn (and pre-emergence of Hi'el, Melanie and Tessa; two turns to sunrise) and ending mid- morning;

Ash Blackmane (White Wolf of the Winter Sun), Seeker-Ranger, and
Cloud (Albino Friesian Stallion) ~ ~ ~ The Seeker of Selune watches the flight of the silohuetted bat creature, marking the direction it flies, until the Quasit finally disappearing from sight.  Ash turns away from the lightening gray twilight sky, and notices a pouch attached to his belt that hadn't been there prior to his arrival in the Conrads' home. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ Curious about the newest addition to his wardrobe, the Ranger pauses outside the Conrads' home, and reaches into the strange pouch [Pouch of Accessibililty].  Blackmane is mildly surprised when five items come unbidden to his hand, more than it SEEMED the pouch could possibly hold, and withdraws his hand to individually examine the items. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ In his hand, the Seeker finds two berries [Pargen berries - restores life to the dead within 4 days] wrapped in paper with the names of Heath and Willis written in Elven script on them.  Besides the two berries, he discovers three green leaves [Laumspur leaves - heals 6hps when eaten] also wrapped in paper with the names of Alice, Nick and Jared also written in Elven script upon them.  Fairly certain these items were for the Conrad Family, the Moonlit Warrior re-enters their home through the splintered ruins of the back door, and goes to the tied-up, fear-stricken woman thrashed on the floor, struggling to free herself. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ Alice had fearfully looked to the entrance of the kitchen when she heard the scrabbling sound of claws clicking on the stairs as something rapidly decended them.  She turned her attention to Heath, who was struggling to stand up, and gasped as the spectral wolf form of the Quasit, her first glimpse of the monster which had assailed her, bowled over her eldest son and leapt into the fireplace, where all the woes of the Conrads had first begun.  She watched it quickly disappear back up the flue into the chimney, and shortly after beheld the Warrior shrouded in moonlight, who crashed through her back door in pursuit of the demon. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ Kneeling down next to the woman, Ash Blackmane does his best to reassure Alice, gently telling her "Please be calm, and do not fear.  My name is Ash Blackmane.  I am here to help you and your Family.  Do you understand?"  The Ranger from the Tribe of Cedar Peaks calmly gazes down at the terrified woman until the fear slowly leaves her eyes and she minutely nods her understanding.  He softly tells her "Very good. You must be Alice. Now, this is for you." and after a momentary pause when the woman nodded, holds up the paper-wrapped leaf with the woman's name on it, saying "This will heal your injuries, Alice.  I'm going to remove your gag.  Please remain quiet, and just eat this leaf.  Soon all your pain will disappear, and then WE can HELP the rest of your Family.  Do you understand?" ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ Once Alice, feeling numb from the trauma of her encounter with monster, nods her agreement with the Seeker's conditions, Ash removes the gag, and before she can think better of her agreement, carefully slips the leaf into her mouth, softly telling her "Go on. Eat it.  Let me know when you're feeling better."  The Ranger watches her for a few heartbeats, and then quickly glances around the kitchen looking for something to clean up the blood on Alice's face.  He soon spies a water jug and a couple of the woman's kitchen towels, and pulls them to him.  The Seeker wets the towels, and softly begins dabbing away the blood from her face, telling her "It would seem someone very powerful cares about you and your Family because up until an eighth a candle ago, I was walking under a morning Sun with the Moon setting before me in the West, and outside it's just now starting to turn dawn.  Feeling better?" ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ The wife of Willis Conrad nods her head which had healed in the moments following her consumption of the leaf and restored her completely to health.  She quietly says "Yes, thank you.  Now could you please untie me?" nodding down at her bound hands and feet. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ Ash glances down, and tells her "Sorry, but you've been through enough already.  I would spare you your dreams, so they would not be haunted by the terrible sights.  Let me tend to your Family, FIRST!"  He shows her the remaining items the berries and leaves that were pulled from the pouch, saying "Each of these has a name on it.  This one is for Jared, this for Heath, this for Nick, and this one for Willis.  Tell me the name of the child who lays on the table, and the boy on the floor there." ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ Alice blinks surprised that this complete stranger knew the names of her children and husband, but sensing the sincerity and concern in his voice, silently agrees, nodding her head and telling him "Heath is on the table, and that's Nick on the floor." ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ The Ranger stands, and before moving away to tend them, asks "Who is Willis and Jared?" to which Alice answers "My husband and middle son."  Ash nods, and moves over to Heath, feeding the dead boy the Pargen berry.  He then goes to Nick, and does the same for Nick on the floor, giving him the leaf from the paper packet.  The Seeker then leaves the kitchen, telling Alice "I'll be back shortly once I've tended to the rest of your family." and goes up to the bedroom where he'd first arrived, finding Jared sitting up against the bed staring off into space.  The kid was still breathing, but was in a state of shock from the attack on him and his father.  Willis, the husband, was another matter. He had 'checked out' after Ash chased the Quasit from their home.  Blackmane moves to the young boy, and places the leaf in his mouth then puts the berry in Willis' bloodied mouth.  The Ranger sits down on the bed to wait for the plants to do whatever they were meant to do, and sighs at the bizarre twist his life had taken. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ As the Seeker waited, both Pargen berries, reacting to the digestive enzymes in the salive of Heath and Willis, begin glowing, causing a red luminesence to shine from their mouths as the restorative life energies seep into their bodies fully healing their injuries and recalling their spirits to the flesh they once inhabited.  The Luamspur leaves slowly healed the boys, even Jared, back to their previous state of wellbeing before having encountered the Vampire's Familiar.  Soon the effects of the plants had restored the entire Family, and all were gathered in the kitchen profusely thanking Ash for saving them and his help. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ Blackmane spends the better part of the morning with the Conrad Family while outside the front of their shop stands a white Albino Friesian Stallion without saddle or any form of tack patiently waiting.  Ash takes his breakfast with the Family and in thanks for his help could forever get whatever supplies he needed free at the General Store.  During the hours spent with them, he tells them about himself and of where he comes from, and learns from them about the Village and People of Elmshade.  Finally, the urge to go out and explore the Village inspires the Seeker to take his leave and say his good-byes to the Conrad Family, before wandering out into the Village of Elmshade much like another newcomer to area. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ Hi'el spies several Elmshade Guards, keeping curious townsfolk away from the scene of distruction, and rushes up to the nearest one, skidding to a halt before the bemused Cae'Bael.  The towering Silenni, standing a full head taller than the Guardsman, immediately demands of him "Where is the High Priestess!?" ~ ~ ~

Tessa's morning sprint had left her a bit winded as she followed Hi'el and reached the circle of guards outside what was left of the temple. The beautiful blonde's mouth dropped as she surveyed the extent of the damage that had been done to the once shining monument to Mielikki. Tessa blinked. She felt bewildered and dismayed that someone or something could destroy what had been such a beautiful building. Why? was her first thought. Then on the heels of that one, Who would have done it and could have done it so completely?

She heard the guard answer her friend and tell him that Mother Sia was at Starsinger Tower. Tessa supposed it made sense to involve the Mage Trinity, though she wasn't anxious to visit the elven sorceress's home again. Tessa was a budding mage in her own right, and wanted very much to learn more of the craft. But Lady Starsinger wasn't taking any apprentices, and neither, it seemed, was Master Stormcrow. The debutante sighed and debated whether or not to follow the Silenni. Finally, deciding there was nothing else she could see or do at the Temple ruins, she took off after Hi'el at a jog. I hope Siannodell is okay, she thought with a pang of worry. Hi'el seems to care about her a great deal...which would explain why he's running so damned fast. "Hi'el! Wait up!"
