Just on the outskirts of the territory's border, a pair of silver wolves stand, their paws planted firmly in earth, their ears perked and eyes alert. They have passed through many other territories during this, their long journey, and each land has proven a different experience completely. This time, they know it will not be different, thus they stand at the borderlands, cautious.
The larger of the two, a male in his prime, scans the forest ahead, ears ringing with the recent passing of another wolf's howl. It is obvious this land holds wolves, but by the scent of things its clear that there aren't many. But its not just numbers that make a pack, its their loyalty to each other and their effectiveness as a team, so any pack no matter its size can prove formidable against an outsider.
But this male and his companion, a female only slightly younger, have no intentions of intruding upon this land unannounced, nor do they have plans for violence. They simply wish to pass through, maybe stay for a rest. Or.. should this be the end of their journey, then this final caution will be well worth any benefit they might gain from being allowed permanent admittance to this territory.
For many moons have they traveled, in search of a new life. They know that a pack cannot simply be formed from two wolves, or they would have already stopped wandering. No, no matter how many litters are born, a true pack cannot consist of all siblings, and such a pack would, in the end, die.
"What do you think, Tane?" asked the female, a sleek silver Timber who stood just aside from her mate.
The male, whose eyes were previously focused and narrow as they took in the land before them, turned to her a much softer gaze. "There are few, but enough. Should we try here?"
The female's turn to gaze out into the territory, she flicked her ears forward, gathering sounds, then pulled them back briefly before letting them rest comfortably passive. "I want to believe this can end someday, but is this too good to be true? This land, it is prime, and there are not many here, as you say... I just wonder... why?"
Laughing silently with a slightly parted maw, Tane stepped forward to nuzzle his mate. "Vesper, you worry far too much. I think this will go well. Come, let us see." Taking the lead, he proceeds into the territory, his posture alert but otherwise unthreatening. Should they encounter the alphas of this land unprepared, at least he would not make a wrong first impression.
Right on his heels, Vesper follows, and at a swift trot they pass through the forest. After a time, Tane assumes they must not be far from where that previous howl originated. Perhaps it would be wise to announce themselves before intruding too far.
Pausing in his step, the large male slows to a walk, then stops completely, lifting his head to the sky, a clear, drawn out tone escaping his throat. The deep howl is soon joined by a second, Vesper's lighter tone easily blending with that of her mate's to create a flawless cord of greeting, the howl flowing as one but still two distinct sounds as it floats across the territory.
Now standing in a slight cleared area of forest, the pair let their howl fade out. Looking to his mate, Tane's eyes smile. "We've announced ourselves, now we simply wait and see if we're welcome."
Nodding, Vesper sits back on her haunches to await whoever might greet them. Tane remains on his feet, yellow eyes trained on the direction ahead, anticipation crawling up the ruff of his neck. |

Rage blinked once, lifting his head as he picked up on yet another distant howl, obviously within the territory's range. Wow was this place ever popular today, he thought... huffing softly at the fact he had been awaken twice already from the same sound. And so, lifting atop all fours, he began towards the others, still groggy and somewhat wobbly from awakening so suddenly.
Finally reaching the other wolves, he approached in silence, peering from the two Alpha's to the newest member of the pack, he lowered his head in a single nod of greeting, "Hello, I'm Rage, guardian of this pack." he said, as tainted hues observed the female, she was definitely a very pretty wolf. |

Lifting his head, triangular ears shifted as a nearby howl rang within, Riley turned to let his attention fall upon Rage a moment, he nodded once in return to the greeting before bounding forward a few steps toward the call. Turning to peer over his shoulder, he motioned towards Rage to give Faite a basic tour of the territory. "I'll be back soon." he called out, before disappearing within the near shadows.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rage nodded to Riley's orders, and took his place at Faite's side, turning to her, he tilted his head. "So what brings you here?" he asked, leading her further into the forest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emerging from within the shadows, Riley's posture raised to full height, his tail lifting to sway gently above his figure, showing his rank. Swirling orbs studied the two figures as he approached closer, Then pausing as he appeared before them, he spoke, "Who are you, and what reasons have you for coming upon this territory?" he asked, falling upon his haunches, awaiting a reply.

Her concentration was suddenly switched the sky in which the howl of two more wolves, which were unknown to her, were heard. When the calls faded off, her mind once again was brought back to the pack. She looked around and yet another wolf emerged out of nowhere. She looked to him and smiled. The missing member of the pack she sensed earlier was here. He watched him with interest, her eyes beaming at him. "Hello Rage." Were the two first words that managed to slip through her mouth. The silver hairs on her tail were flicking back and forth as she wagged her tail. The alpha male was gone but with his gesture, she could tell she was going to get her tour soon. She got up onto her snowy paws and followed Rage. "I was just traveling and came to your pack's territory. I've been traveling for years to find a pack that would accept me. It seemed like forever since I have ever been in the company of others.." |

Rage nodded as he listened to her, being able to somewhat relate with the sort of past she spoke of, "Yeah, I was never one to want to run with a pack, but I just so happened to stumble across the SilentShadows, and I felt right at home once I was accepted." He replied, smiling lightly.
Bringing Faite to the same ledge Riley had watched her approach from, he chuckled lightly, pausing a moment as he stood high above the pack lands, peering out over the territory, he turned to face her, "Well, this is just about as much as I need to show you, the entire territory is able to be viewed from up here." he said. "I'll leave it up to you, to wander around and become familiar with the specific parts of the lands, letcha have some fun at least." he winked at her before leaping down from the ledge, and pausing to look back at her, "I should probably go assist Riley in greeting the newcomers, but I won't be too far if you need me." he called over his shoulder, before loping off into the forest, back towards the direction in which the howl had come.

Faite followed Rage to the place where she first met Riley. She looked to Rage and listened to what he had to say. She had thought that this was where she could see everything in the pack territory but didn't know that she was right. But when Rage told her this, she couldn't believe it. She nodded to him as she watched him return to the forest to assist the alpha in greeting the wolves. When she was sure that he was gone, she looked around and lifted herself on her hind legs to peer above the trees like a rabbit would to check for predators. She only did this when she was alone for she thought this made her look very silly and didn't want to be taken like a pup. When she saw a place where she would like to go, she sat down and thought how long it would take. Her mind was finally made up and she took off to the west. |

Watching from a distance, Naka smiled slightly as she watched Faite run off to explore the lands.
Shifting from within the thick fog, she turned in the direction Riley and Rage had bounded toward, trailing them to the newcomers. |
