~ Bound As One ~ Without a shadow I wandered alone in the sun, A flower wilting without rain The winter long and cold until you came. No more loneliness For we have the other, Close together we will be To care and love For we can see That oneness gives life. Oneness as warmth to keep out the cold Oneness as light to banish the darkness Oneness as comfort when pain has come Oneness as shelter from raging storm Oneness as wisdom to offer support. There is no chill of night There is nothing more to fear For we are one. Creator of all the universe Creator of our heart our Lord and Redeemer Hold us in oneness that we may live long on Your earth. And when our days fade to a last sunset we will soar above the heavens where there is perfect peace comfort, warmth, shelter and light, Our oneness with You Forever complete.

~ Captive ~
Held captive to barely breathe Trapped within the bars The bars of sacred love Yet free within the confines Of all that loving does Whatever weakness known Then tender is the draw If loving is a prison Then please entrap the more Though not lying on a bed of ease Or traversing far and wide Yet content in bonds of love And there to gladly hide Within the law of faith, enough In rightful place He the warrior, strong and true She rests in nurturing grace God's arms encircling With powerful tenderness Roped as one In chains of gentleness Wrapped tight to ever give By the strands of His loving heart Locked by His key to keep Bound by oath to stay Imprisoned in these bars Evermore complete

~ Cloud Walker ~
Born to mountains on high his spirit walked clouds in the sky As a strong brave young boy to all, he brought happiness and joy
But as time and fate would be men came from across the sea Cloud Walker held the land in great trust but it was soon taken in greed and lust
So many were the white man out numbering Cloud Walker's clan and in haste to clear the land they started fires by their evil hands
Greedy and in such thoughtless rush they started burning off thick wooded brush Soon the fire was out of hand burning and destroying all the land
The white men with evil smiles watched as it spread for miles but in fear they would not stay Their coward's hearts soon ran away
The land was burning and smoking while people were dying and choking Cloud Walker bravely rushed in trying to save his blood's kin
Risking his very heart's life he saved his children and wife His body was burned and charred and his heart's spirit forever scarred
Cloud Walker stood atop a hill the fire yet burning still He watched as it spread and his spirit's heart bled
He stood there a solitary man taking in the emptiness of the land Not many were left of his clan They would have to start life over again
Watching as smoke bellowed across the lake thinking his heart would surely break His spirit no longer heard life's song for his heart's beloved land was gone
He had fought on into the night with all his brave spirit's might But in his heart was a great void for all he loved had been destroyed
His brave spirit looked to the sky and his heart could only ask why ... Surveying all the destruction with his eye asking, why did the land have to die?
Cloud Walker's spirit watches yet today pollution of the once clear water ways destroying the Creator's clean fresh air without giving any thought or care
His spirit watches in great sorrow and asks, will there be a tomorrow ... For him this question will ever burn will men's heart's never learn ...
Cloud Walker respected this land true and all man's destruction is in his view His spirit is asking you ... What are you going to do?
Cloud Walker still watches from the skies with a heart's tears in his eyes and he continues still to ask why .... Why does the land have to die?

~ I Am Cherokee ~ Half Breed Hey Half Breed They yelled you're a Injun We tried to kill off your seed Those hateful words I heard growing up in a white world Just a child with a few kin I didn't know where I came from Mom always said hush -it don't matter none Pay them no mind ,they're just being unkind I managed to grow up and learned That it did matter a lot, not just some I learned I am descended from the First Peoples and we are Earth Keepers Now I know why my heart is free and the heart drums I hear are a part of me History books never... taught me things I know instinctively It is the blood that flows in my veins That let me see what is hidden from view Others look but they have no clue Always knew I was different but didn't know that I should be proud Years have passed since childhood taunting It has been a long journey to find all of me But I found a thread and followed it back through history And now I tell you who I am I am Cherokee

~ I Am Wolf ~
I am wolf, I am one of a kind I have been here since ancient time Wakan Tanka Blesses me to be My kind will always run wild and free
It is my nature to avoid you, I am human shy You hunt me from helicopters across the sky Then you shoot at me as I try to flee ... Why? Why does your kind wish my species to die?
We wolves run together in a family pack Always guarding ourselves against attack I do not attack your home or farm I only attack when you intend wolf harm
Wolf has no markets or stores for food supply We hunt the forests and where open fields lie You speak and spread your untrue words That we attack your live stock and herds
Why does man wish to kill wolf by his lying? We only take lives of old, weak and already dying You hunt and kill for sport and greed We only hunt when our families have need
You place animal head trophies upon your wall to make your egos walk vain and tall Wolf needs no trophies for others to see We only wish to live and preserve our family ...
We mate for life and survival just as you ... We grieve for our lost ones same as you do Why can we not share a new dawn .... Let me be free to howl the moon my song
Loyalty and courage shines from my eyes I am spirit of the wild that never dies I am brother wolf, asehi ... I am he I will always run the winds free ...

~ Kindred Spirit ~
After the great spirit created the world He called man and wolf into council He charged them to go out to be heard To give name to all the earth's plant and animal
Together they went about their task in earnest Giving name to all that their path would cross To give symbol to all, in plain and forest Making sure that none were passed or lost
Task completed, they returned to the great spirit Proud of what man and wolf had accomplished All now had a name, as he had asked it With this, he told the two they were finished
Kindred spirit is what he named them Told them then to part, yet live in harmony Which they did, 'till strangers came to this land Killing the wolf to make room for his family
It is time we remembered this was not the plan Wolf was not a problem for tribes that were here Together we were to live, hand in hand How can we make the intruders open their ears
Kindred spirits of the land we had lived Working together to keep the land good But, a breaking of the promise, we would give Where, as brothers together, we had once stood

~ Little Wolf's Wish ~
Four wolf pups lay by their Mother's side filling their Father's heart with pride There was one girl and three males who protected their little sister without fail
Wolf pups love to run and play for that is little wolves' way ... but their Father they must obey they must heed what he has to say
From the day they were born their Father had warned ... Stay away from man's farms for he means wolf harm
That creature, the two legged one carries a stick called a gun he kills for sport and fun, if you see him, you must run!
Then came the fateful day ... the four little wolves were at play with their friends, the cub bears Suddenly gun shots filled the air
Little wolf quickly looked around his sister's small body was lying on the ground only her soft fur moved as a lone wind blew In his heart and by instinct he knew ...
He watched as she drew her last breath her heart bravely embracing death ... Little wolf's yelps pierced the sky why did his only sister have to die ...?
But he could not linger nor stay the two legged one was headed his way and his gun was pointed at him He was trying to kill all of them!
The little wolves followed their own tracks and made it safely back to the pack Their beloved sister they will always miss and little wolf forever holds this wish ...
That man's killing of wolves will cease and man will let them live in peace A wish from the heart and most sincere Please help before wolves completely disappear

Time and space -
time to be alone, space to move about -
these may be the greatest scarcities of tomorrow
-Edwin Way Teal
An old Shoshone legend honors the wolf as the protector of women.
Sketch by Evening Thunder
It is told that a group of young girls had to be left behind in hiding as the tribe had to pack up and move quickly due to imminent danger. When the girls came out of hiding and went in search of the tribe, they came upon an injured wolf. After nursing the wolf back to health, they became adopted by the entire pack of wolves, who saved them from danger many times as the girls continued their search for the rest of their tribe.
The warrior fathers, upon returning to find the girls, saw the wolves surrounding their daughters from a distance. Not understanding that the wolves were actually protecting their daughters, they slew them one and all.
After being told of their grave mistake, they vowed to honor the wolf as protector throughout time. This became tradition and continues today.
Protect me, Brother Wolf. My spirit is guided by you.
A MIDNIGHT SONG
BY THE COVER OF THE NIGHT, YOU SING YOUR SONG TO THE MOON KNOWING SHORTLY THAT MORNING WILL BE THERE SOON
MOST PEOPLE THINK, IT'S JUST A HOWL AND A CRY TO ME, ITS JUST BEAUTIFUL MUSIC THAT YOU SING TO THE SKY
LOYALITY TO YOUR PACK, IS TO THE END AND YOU'RE ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS
WHEN NIGHT FALLS YOU GO OUT FOR THE KILL IT'S JUST FOR THE FOOD AND NOT FOR THE THRILL
YOU GO OUT WITH THE PACK AND HUNT LIKE MEN ALWAYS RETURNING BY MORNING TO YOUR DEN
YOU'RE WITH YOUR FAMILY EVERY MOMENT OF THE DAY CONSTANTLY PROTECTING YOUR PUPS FROM THE PREY
SO NEXT TIME YOU HOWL, SING VERY LOUD YOU'RE A GREAT FAMILY MAN AND SHOULD BE PROUD
WE ALL SHOULD BE LIKE YOU, GIVING OUR FAMILY SO MUCH LOVE SO KEEP ON SINGING YOUR SONG, TO THE STARS ABOVE

Maiden Of The Wood
A song about a young Indian maiden discovering the wonderment of the woods as she makes her first solitary voyage through the forest. She dances freely and gracefully with the butterflies, dragonflies, and the animals of the wood. A song reflecting the power of the wood and nature and the sharing of our own spirituality with it.

~ My Wolf Soul ~
Thru valleys, across mountains and forests of pine, Roams the wolf and his pack who's soul is mine. The howl that carries thru the moonlit night, My soul deep within him feels so right.
He wisely smells for any scent in the air, As he never knows who might be there. His strength of body and mind keeps the pack from harm, The influence he carries to keep them all calm.
Wolf
A defender of his cubs & protector of his pack, So fearless but gentle as he leads a track. It is an honor to hold his soul of present and past, To feel his heart in my chest that beats so fast.
I love the wolf who's soul I bear, Just like him I give respect and care. Always look for the brother within your heart and mind, Look into your soul and your brother you will find.

Musing
Through the wind I hear the people of my past,
A Great Nation That was not suppose to last.
In the rain I see their tears,
In the clouds the passing years.
The Warriors of then are all but gone,
Yet the Heart of the people still live on.
We live to hear the thunder of the Buffalo again,
To see the land once ours restored with no shame.
To feel the grasses beneath our feet,
To dance again to the drum beat.
To Live in spirit, Free the Nation
That Dances within me.

I wrote this pome at the age of 21. I WROTE THIS AFTER A DREAM OF THE WHITE BUFFALO.
MY BROTHERS; I hope you will feel this rather than read this. I was always told that your life is given in your dreams, I believe that is true.
Peace be in your hearts MY BROTHERS.

MAGNIFICENT ONE
IN MY DREAMS I SEE YOU THERE,
I AM STARTLED AT YOUR SNOW WHITE HAIR.
MAGNIFICENT ONE I FEEL YOUR TEARS,
YOU'VE MOURNED THE LOSS OF ALL THESE YEARS.
WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN TO COME TO ME,
WHEN I AM WHAT WAS AND NO LONGER FREE.
I FEEL YOUR SORROW, I HEAR YOUR BELLOWING ROAR,
YOU CALL TO A TIME THAT IS NO MORE.
YOU WANT MY WORDS TO SET YOU FREE,
BUT MY SPIRIT WOLF HAS DIED IN ME.
AS A CHILD YOU OFTEN CAME TO ME,
YOU CALLED MY NAME AND SET ME FREE.
NOW AS AN ADULT WHEN YOU COME,
YOU CALL ME WOMAN WITH NO NAME,
A PERSON WHO IS NO ONE.
I WANT TO WRITE YOUR WORDS OF ALL THAT HAS BEEN DONE,
BUT I AM WOMAN WITH NO NAME, I AM NO ONE.

THIS ONE IS OF MY GREAT GRANDFATHER DRAGGING WOLF.
DRAGGING WOLF
DRAGGING WOLF A MIGHTY WARRIOR ACROSS THE PLAINS YOU RIDE,
A GREAT WHITE ROBE YOU CARRY DISPLAYING YOUR NATIONS PRIDE.
YOU RAISE YOUR HANDS TO THE GREAT ONE,
SINGING YOUR PRAISES LOUD,
FOR A NATION OF PEOPLE THAT MAKE YOU FEEL SO PROUD.
YOU LIVE IN PEACE AND HARMONY WITH ALL THERE IS TO SEE,
YOU SING THE SONG OF A WARRIOR SO YOUR PEOPLE WILL BE FREE.
YET ALL THE PEACE YOU ASKED FOR A BATTLE HAS BEGUN,
OUR PEOPLE LAY SLAUGHTERED IN A BATTLE NOT YET WON.
I WROTE THIS ALSO AT 17. I HOPE YOU WILL LIKE IT FOR WHAT IT IS. IT MAKES ME CRY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.
PEACE BE IN YOUR HEART

THE SLAUGHTER
BE QUIET SPECKLED FAWN, DO NOT DARE TO SPEAK,
THE SOLDIERS ARE COMING CLOSER,THEY'RE VERY NEAR THE CREEK.
THEY HAVE KILLED AND BURNED OUR VILLAGE,
NO ONE IS LEFT ALIVE, I RAISE MY HEAD TO LOOK,
MY MOTHER SAYS TO HIDE.
SOLDIERS HAVE FOUND US, MY MOTHER JUMPS AND RUNS,
SHE TRIES TO SAVE MY LIFE BY TAKING ON THEIR GUNS.
THE SOLDIERS SHOOT HER IN THE BACK NOT 1 NOT 2 BUT THREE,
I SCREAM OUT HER NAME, THEY ARE COMING FOR ME.
BROTHER WOLF JUMPED IN FRONT OF ME SAYING
"LAY DOWN PRETEND YOUR DEAD.
I'LL PRETEND TO EAT YOU AS HE LICKED MY CHILDISH HEAD.
I WOKE UP WITH A START THINKING IT ALL A DREAM,
UNTIL I STOOD UP TO VIEW THE BLOODY SCENE.
BODIES WERE EVERYWHERE,
SHOT, BEATEN OR BURNED,
THE SICKENING STENCH THAT ROSE FROM IT MADE MY STOMACH CHURN.
I SAT BESIDE MY MOTHER NOT KNOWING WHERE TO BE,
BROTHER WOLF SAID, "GET UP YOU MUST LISTEN TO ME."
"YOU'VE GOT TO TELL THE STORY OF A PEOPLE PROUD AND FREE, YOU'VE
GOT TO TELL THE STORY OF MY BROTHERS, THE CHEROKEE."
PEACE BE IN YOUR HEART

VISION QUEST
WAY UP ON THE MOUNTIAN HIGH,
SEEKING A VISION WHERE THE EAGLE S FLY.
GREAT SPIRIT I HUMBLE MYSELF TO YOU,
I SING YOUR PRAISES ,HANDS LIFTED
TO A SKY OF BLUE.
I SING I DANCE I FAST I PRAY,
GREAT SPIRIT TAKE ME ,
SHOW ME THE WAY.
AT THE CORNER OR MY MIND I SEE A LIGHT,
YET IT IS LATE AT NIGHT.
OUT OF IT COMES A WOLF AND BEAR,
I FEEL THEIR BREATH AS THEY COME NEAR.
THEY STAND ME UP UPON THE GROUND,
ALL IS STILL , THERE IS NO SOUND.
WALK WITH US BROTHER CHEROKEE,
OPEN YOUR EYES FOR YOU SHALL SEE.
A WAY OF LIFE THAT WILL SOON BE THE PAST,
BROTHER CHEROKEE YOU ARE To LAST.
TEACH YOUR CHILDREN SO YOUR ANCESTORS WILL NOT DIE AWAY,
I PROMISE
YOU THE CHEROKEE WILL RETURN SOMEDAY.

CLOUD WALKER
STANDING A FEW FEET AWAY,
WAITING PATIENTLY FOR THE WARRIOR
WHO RODE ME TODAY.
RESTING AFTER A BATTLE WON,
YET KNOWING THE REAL BATTLE HAS JUST BEGUN.
I AM READY FOR BATTLE AT THE TOUCH OF A HAND ,
CARRYING MY WARRIOR ACROSS THE LAND.
I WILL RUN FOR MY WARRIOR UNTIL I CAN RUN NO MORE,
FOR I, AM A CHEROKEE'S PONY OF WAR.

THE OMEN
THE GREAT WHITE OWL PERCHED IN HIS TREE,
OPENED HIS EYES AND SPOKE TO ME.
BEWARE THE WHITE MAN COMING YOUR WAY,
HE BRINGS GIFTS OF DEATH THIS VERY DAY.
HE WILL TAKE WHAT THE GREAT SPIRIT HAS GIVEN TO YOU,
TRICK YOU TO BELIEVE HIS TREATIES ARE TRUE.
WHEN HE KNOWS THAT HE HAS WON YOUR TRUST,
HE WILL SLAUGHTER THE BUFFALO TO FILL HIS GREEDY LUST.
HE WILL KILL YOUR PEOPLE AND TAKE YOUR LAND,
HE THINKS IT IS HIS RIGHT AS A WHITE MAN.
I TELL YOU THIS BECAUSE IT IS NOT THE END,
THE CHEROKEE WILL SOON RISE AGAIN.

NIGHT FOX
I AM NIGHT FOX OF THE WOLF CLAN,
I AM A PREDATOR HUNTING THE WHITE MAN.
MY CALLING IS THAT OF ONLY THE BEST,
TO KEEP MY PEOPLE SAFE AND DISPOSE OF THE REST.
AS I TELL YOU MY STORY WHITE MAN LISTEN CLEAR,
BEFORE YOU KNOW I, AM, YOU YOU'LL BE MISSING AN EAR.
I WALK WITH THE STEALTH OF THE WOLF AT NIGHT,
TO AVENGE THE HURT OF MY PEOPLE, TO MAKE WHAT IS WRONG RIGHT.
I AM NOT A COWARD WHO WILL STAB YOU IN THE BACK,
I WILL LOOK YOU IN THE EYES BEFORE I ATTACK.
I WILL GLADLY GIVE MY LAST BREATH TO SET MY PEOPLE FREE,
FOR I, AM,
FOX OF THE CHEROKEE.
This was written from a story told by Dragging Wolf, it was told to him by Night Fox his grandfather. I put it to poetry. July 22, 1999 I hope you enjoy this one, I tried to write as close to the story I was told.

BROTHER WOLF
Brother wolf eyes so bright,
glowing amber in the dark of night.
You haunt the places sacred to me,
the spirit path of the cherokee.
Your song calls me back to a time long ago,
where we did not have to hide from the unknown.
Your voice embraces the spirit wolf in me,
it warms my soul, sets me free.
We live in the circle you and I,
from birth walking as brothers until we die.
Brother wolf eyes so bright,
glowing amber in the dark of night.
You haunt the places sacred to me,

An Eagle Crys
AN EAGLES CRY WHAT A LONESOME SOUND,
PIERCING THE HEARTS OF THOSE UPON THE GROUND.
TELLING A STORY FOR ALL TO HEAR,
THE CHEROKEE, THE WOLF ,BUFFALO AND DEER.
RETURN AGAIN TO CLAIM YOUR PLACE,
WATCH ME SOAR WITH SUCH GRACE.
THE GREAT SPIRIT SPEAKS THROUGH ME TO YOU,
KNOW DEEP IN YOUR HEART ALL I SAY IS TRUE.
YOU WILL AGAIN CLAIM WHAT IS YOURS,
THROUGH TRUTH, WISDOM , AS A NATION OF FORCE.
I CRY FOR A TIME THE GREAT SPIRIT HAS SHOWN ME,
WHEN THE LAND AGAIN GOES BACK TO THE WOLF ,
BUFFALO, DEER AND THE CHEROKEE.

~ Shadow Wolf ~
Walking a shadowy path of his own His wild wolf's heart is so alone ... He howls alone at the moon's misty light His cries pierce the cold still night ...
His loyal mate was taken and his heart is so forsaken He lays his tired body down on a cold lonely ground
In his spirit's eyes, tears fill but off on a distant hill ... A young she wolf looks to the skies Ears perked, she hears his cries
Her feet races the ground following Shadow wolf's sound Faster, faster, go her feet faster, faster goes her heart beat
Her search is almost at an end as she flies on the wind She sniffs the cold night air of his scent, she's made aware
At last she wolf finds him Soft wind caresses them She gently licks the tears from his face Their hearts held in nature's embrace
As he nuzzles her with his jaws she lays her head across his paws Nestled together in each other's warm furs love and protection is now hers
Now through the darkness of night they howl together at the moon's light Blessed by The Creator to always be ... They run the wind free
Through summer's warmth or winter's snows She follows him where ever he goes Their loyal hearts locked together They will be soul mates forever ...

Wolf And The Sparrow
The wind whistled through the trees telling of a cold snowy night's freeze ... All of the animals had been safely prepared except for a little bird who was not spared
A little sparrow had gotten lost and was caught in the unexpected frost She lay on the cold frozen ground her fragile body barely making a sound
She was badly injured and could not fly then out of the shadows a wolf passed by Silently, without any sounds being heard wolf found the little injured bird ...
Wolf looked at the sparrow's delicate feathers and knew she could not survive the weather He saw the sadness in sparrow's eye and knew he could not let her die ...
There in the cold night's dark the little sparrow had touched wolf's heart Wolf saw the little sparrow's plight and would see her through the night
As the wolf laid down close beside her the sparrow nestled warmly in his soft fur From the night sky Creator looked down at His little creatures lying on the cold ground
Then Creator sent warm heavenly winds to keep warm these two caring friends ... Because the wolf's caring devotion had no end for little sparrow a miracle of healing would begin
Within all the miracles ever dreamt of there's none greater than the miracle of love With their hearts and spirits bound together Wolf and little sparrow will be friends forever
Whenever there's two hearts that share Miracles can happen to anyone, anywhere

~~ Wolf Dreamer's Dream ~~ Long ago Tribal Elders passed on a gift the mystical ability to shape-shift ... As into your heart this dream steals Is it a dream ... or is it real ....?
Come, join my Wolf-Pack ... Don't look back ... just follow the tracks
Welcome my friend ... listen to the wind Enter dreams without beginning or end ... Now .... ...... the Wolf-Dreamer Dreams begins ....
Follow me to another place and time A place of harmony 'midst wolf and his kind As day ends and night begins to fall ... Off in the distance, I hear my brother's call
A wolf spirit trapped in human skin I long to run with my wolfen kin As my brother's howl comes within range 'Neath the stars, my body begins to change ...
At last my body and spirit are one Faster! Faster! My paws begin to run! Without pause or looking back ... I search to find my brother's pack!
Then I see my Celtic spirit sister there and my Cherokee sister with the raven hair Off standing in the shadowy moon beams is "Yellow Wolf Who Follows His Dreams"
Romping 'round the Craggy Mountain bend There's my grandsons, "Brother's of the Wind" Yes, all my wolf friends are gathered there! Howling and running with paws flying on air
As clear and continuous as a mountain stream We forever dream our Wolf-Dreamer's Dream This is my wolf pack, my loyal family Humans by day ...... But at night .... wolf spirits that run free

~ Wolf In The Rainbow ~
To mountains old and worn a beautiful child was born As she grew, all could readily see She had mystical strength and beauty
No one could control this spirited child As she ran the winds free and wild Her people wondered from the start What could tame her wild spirited heart
Her many loves never seemed to last Becoming mere shadows of the past She walked a path of her own wondering if she would always be alone
On a fateful day in time Grandfather showed her a sign Under the skies of a rainbow A wolf was standing in the shadows
Shown by powers of Earth mother Wolf in the rainbow is your brother He will always be by your side and will ever be your spirit guide
The rainbow now colors her life bright guiding her spirit to peace and light She learned through wolf spirit's eyes and her heart grew worldly wise...
Rainbow Wolf showed ways of old ... He became the guardian of her soul Teaching her spirit to soar She travels paths not known before
Her heart's destiny would not long wait for by a mystical chance of fate unexpectedly her love came and lit an undying flame...
Guided by wolf in the rainbow their love's ecstasy ever glows Filled with passionate fury and desire fanned by destiny's undying fire...
Written on the winds of fate they will be forever soul mates Whether they are together or apart Her lover holds the secret to her heart
Now the secret, if you want to hear it How did he tame her wild spirit... Ask the wolf in the rainbow He's the only one who knows...
