Final Breath The old man lay in his hospital bed, His breathing short and shallow. The minutes pass by silently, Cause everybody knows. They all hold back their silent tears. His color is almost gone. They take turns standing by his side, Not leaving him alone. Then as a child falling asleep, He takes in the deepest breath, Letting it out a final time, Silently he rests. His struggle is over, the pain is gone, And they all shed their tears. Just the first that they would cry, For many many years.
