Giant Hands
I held the giant's finger
As I learned how to walk
I sat upon his lap
While learning to talk.
The giant was there
He picked me up when I fell
If I was happy or sad
The giant I could tell
When I started school
The giant shed a tear
But he smiled brightly
Helping me with my fear
The giant taught me right from wrong
He helped me with school projects
The giant was angry, but forgave me
When his car I did wreck
As the years passed by
The giant became not a giant at all
The day he walked me down the isle,
My Dad still stood very tall.
Those giant's hand were back
For each child I bore
Helping them to walk
At times it seemed a chore
Today the giant
Seems to have shrivled away
Leaving a gentle frail man
Smiling sweetly, in his bed he does lay
Holding his hand
Which is now weak
The tears in his eyes
For it is so hard for him to speak
I smooth the lines on his cheek
I softly kiss his brow and whisper low
I love you Daddy, Be at peace
You will always be in my heart, I want you to know
As I walked away from the bed, my hand was caught by
A strong giant grip from a weak hand,
He pulled me close and whispered low,
I love you too, I am not long for this land.
