Just a quick tip...

all machines have memory slots for RAM. How you line up the memory chips is important.

for optimal performance.

a machine with 512mb memory in Bank one will run faster than a machine with 256mb in bank one , and 256mb in bank two.

if your machine has 256mb in bank one and you want to up grade to a total of 512mb you might want to consider buying a 512mb for bank one and put the original 256mb in bank two

if you started with 512mb in bank one , and added 256mb in bank two, and decided to put in another 512mb ,, switch the 256mb to bank 3, and put the new 512mb in bank one

okay: would be 512mb  256mb 512mb

better  would be  512mb   512mb  256mb

rule is always put the biggest MB Ram sticks first

Why the different banks?  Can they not all go into the same?  Might be a dumb question, but that's the way I learn.

Computers have "slots" (Banks) for you to slide memory (sticks) into. Depending on the computer the slots are limited as to how much Ram each slot will take. Many puters that now come with 512MB of ram normally will have it in bank 1.

Computers have a number of Banks to expand memory over time. many computers might come with 256MB of  Ram and that is normally in bank one. This way when people go to expand they keep the old memory and just add to it. But the computer would operate more efficiently if you bought 512MB of ram and put it in bank one than if you have 256MB in slot 1 and add another 256 MB to bank 2.

This does not mean that the puter will not operate better with more ram, it is just a more effcient way to use the Ram.

My computer comes with 4 banks and i have a total of 1.2 gigs of ram through expansion, it started with 512MB in slot 1.
by the way,, the most ram my computer will take is 2 gigs.. so my slots are limited to 512mb per slot.
