T'was the Night before Samhain
T'was the night before Samhain,
when all through my home
not a creature was stirring
but a ferret alone.
Unknown to myself
and my husband in bed,
it wasn't the spirits
of our ancestors dead.
Afraid to get up
and see what we heard,
we listened in bed
without saying a word.
We didn't understand.
We set extra dishes.
We remembered and prayed.
We sent them good wishes.
We carved up the pumpkin
and left it alight
to guard against evil
on this special night.
We left out the cake
and candy for all.
What was that banging
inside of the wall?
We heard some loud crashes.
We heard the door creak.
It must be a ghost!
We started to friek.
My husband got up
to chase it away.
I wish he was back.
I wish it was day.
A sudden loud bang...
an eerie, long scream...
Then I awoke.
It was only a dream.
And to my relief,
I saw by moonlight
nothing was scarey
or haunting the night.
Only the face
of a friend did I see,
My cute little ferret
staring at me.
He danced and he dooked.
In his eye was this gleam
as if he was saying,
"Happy Halloween!"

I hope everyone has a great and safe holiday! Don't forget treats for your little fuzzy friends. Otherwise, they may haunt you while you're sleeping.
