thanks for the welcome.
I've read most of the posts throughout the day. Anxious to go pick up my babies on Saturday. Haven't had a furbaby in years, and the math is catching up with me, getting 3 this weekend.
Trying to prep the house for them now, and the wife. (She hasn't had the pleasure yet)

so far I am only certain that one is about a year and a half, two were taken in by the family 2 years ago, and for certain at least one is sprite. I dont know their names yet, but will probably find out more towards the weekend.
I"m planning on turning one of our linen closets into a hotel for them, and putting through the wall access to a seperate 'play area' in the floor of the master closet. (pvc piping through the wall, not just a hole, lol) and possibly another multi story cage in the master.
Its gonna be a fun project, and I'm really looking forward to everyone here experiencing a new way of life. |

Just got the email with pickup time for the babies, We'll be driving about 100 miles and get them Saturday at noonish.
So far two floors of the condo are almost finished. In my opinion its a bit small for a business of 3, but it's going to be expanded in the very near future. I'm also looking at adding open caging in our master closet, with through the wall access, and from there another through the wall access to another cage in another room.
One of the benefits of being maintenance here at the apts, I can basicly do anything I want, lol.
I found out their normal diet is wal mart ferret food. I'll keep them on that for a while, but wean them into a higher quality food over time. I dont want to stress them too badly. The family change is going to be hard enough on them.
Tomorrow will probably see a trip to the local petco for a water bottle, ferretone, treats, toys, and shampoo, the local feed store for rabbit pellets ( I understand that makes a great litter for them) and finish off the condo. (cage is such a nasty word)
I'm sure they are going to love their new home.
Sadly, I forgot to take the before pictures. Once everything is built, and they get here, I'll be sure to take some and get them posted. |

hahaha you've been busy! You can start the gradual diet change the day you bring them home just add a handful of the new feed to the old feed they will accept that with the new home , its good to offer a few foods mixed so if you ever arent able to get one they will have the other 1 or 2 to fall back on. Our rescue sells mixed kibble I think there is 6 different types in it and my ferrets love it except 1 LOL they always leave that one kibble in their bowls. I used rabbit pellets for ferret litter when I lived in America I found it inexpensive and easy scooping ! sadly here rabbit pellets are more expensive than litter ! and people actually buy horse pellets for their rabbits to save money lol That might be something else see what litter they use sometimes ferrets dont like that to change so you might have to gradually change that over too. but see how they go they may welcome the change! Have a safe trip tomorrow, when they have settled you can share pics and stories with us :) |
