Nicky was my first ferret in 2 1/2 yrs.   In June of 2004, my ferret club was contacted by a woman who had found a little male ferret wandering down her street.  He was starving, dehydrated and full of fleas.  She took him to the vet right away and was told that with plenty of food and water, he would be fine.  She named him Roenick and bought him a 4 story cage as she was planning on keeping him.  Well, she also does dog rescues and always had a few dogs in the house.  She wasn't able to give him a lot of play time because of the dogs and even though she loved him very much, decided to find a home for him with someone who could spend a lot of time with him.  She e-mailed our shelter mom who then put him on our website.  She suggested I take a look at him.  Since I was moving in July, I waited until then.  On July 11th, I went to see Roenick and it was love at first sight.  Shari, his rescue mom, had taken such excellent care of him that he was as healthy as could be.  She said I could have his cage and everything, so he came home with me that day.  I really didn't like his name and felt he should have a new forever name to go with his new forever home.  Not wanting to confuse him, I shortened his name to Nicky.  He must have liked it better, too, cause he responded to it right away!  Nicky is a sable, with a little bow-tie on his chest.  He's about 3 1/2 yrs old and momma's cutie boy.  When he plays, he's quite the little dooker, too.

Venus and Mars came to me about a month after Nicky.  At our club picnic in July our president told us about a pair of 18 month old fuzzies who had been left outside of a vet hospital in the middle of the night.  The vet called her and she had just picked them up that morning.  Her husband said she had to at least try to find them a home cause they already had 17 ferts of their own.  I already knew that I didn't want Nicky to be an only ferret, so I said I'd take them if they got along with Nick.  On August 7th I took Nicky to meet them.  I fell in love as soon as I saw them, Venus, a gorgeous sable mitt and Mars, a big solid sable boy.  We introduced them to Nicky and they started playing right away!  That's when I knew it was meant to be.  They came home together in the same carrier and have been best buds ever since.  Venus is my cuddly kissy girl, she just loves to give kisses!  Mars is a total momma's boy.  He's always wanting to be picked up and loved on, so of course I do!

Nova came to me a little less than 2 months after Venus and Mars.   Someone had posted on another list that a friend of her mothers was giving up her 14 week old ferret.  She said she was giving her up because she was a bad biter.  As soon as I read the post I just had a feeling about her.  It was if I could feel her calling to me.  I e-mailed the girl who had posted and told her I would take her sight unseen.  2 days later, on Sept. 23rd, I went to pick her up at the feed store where the girl worked.  When the woman who owned her brought her in, she had her in a small cardboard box, taped shut and with a couple of air holes in the top.  I immediately opened the box and out popped the cutest little chocolate sable I'd ever seen.  She was very skittish and the woman told me it was because her 2 sons, ages 3 and 5, liked to terrorize her!  She said they had named her Sweetie, but since they'd only had her a few weeks, I could probably change her name to whatever I wanted.   I had already been looking at names and when I saw the name Nova, I had a feeling that that was who she was going to be.  I had asked her owner to bring her bedding so she would have something familar in her new home.   When I asked her for it, she pulls this ratty old washcloth out of the box.  That was all the bedding she had!  Then she tells me I can have the box to take her home in.  At this point I'm ready to rip this woman a new one, but I didn't want her to not let me take her.  So I smile and grit my teeth and tell her I brought a carrier of my own to take her home in.  She actually looked surprised!  I had been told before I went there that she was coming with just some food and her bedding.  What did she think I was going to do, let her run around my car for the 30 minute drive home????  I got Nova out of there as fast as I could.  I talked to her the whole way home, telling her that her name was Nova now, that I loved her very much, that she'd never be mistreated again and that she was going to have a sister and 2 brothers to play with.  I had already told Nicky, Venus and Mars about her.  I told them that I was bringing them a new little sister who desperately needed a loving home.  I told them that she was just a baby so they would need to be gentle with her.  When Nova and I got home I put her in a cage and let them sniff each other through the bars.  After she had eaten and given me a couple of nice normal poops, I introduced them all to each other.  It couldn't have gone better.  My 3 older ones were so gentle with her, even when she played rough.  Now that she's bigger, they play rough right back with her.  Nova is always on the go.  When she's not sleeping, she's in constant motion.  She's also the talker of the family.  She dooks like crazy when she plays or is just running around the house.  When she gets told 'no' she walks away doing her grumble dook.  Oh, and the biting thing?  Nova has never even tried to nip or bite me, or anyone else!

Esmerelda~Our black eyed white, 1 year old. My first ferret. I was living with my fiance and my two cats when I got the idea in my head that I wanted a ferret. We had no vehicle at the time, we were riding pushbikes everywhere, and the only breeder I could find was an hours drive away.. So I decided I would wait until I could get transport out there. Then a week or so later, an advert appeared in the paper: Baby Ferrets, 6 weeks old, Edwardstown. A suburb away from where I lived. I rang the number immediately and spoke to a guy who said he would bring a little girl around for me straight away. She was so tiny when she came to me. I didn't know a lot about ferrets, only what I had learnt through research on the internet. Ezzie is my lap ferret. She loves to give me kisses and always runs to me when I call her. She's my princess. When Ezzie was about 1 1/2 months, she got squashed under a cushion chair. We rushed her to the vets, and after 7 hours of not knowing if she would live, Ezzie came home with us. After the accident she was very sleepy, she didn't clean her bum, and she seemed very depressed. We had a car by this time so we decided to visit the original breeder we were going to get a ferret from...

Cookie~Our light sable 10, 1/2 months old - masked. We went to Pixie's to pick a ferret for my partner, and a friend for our Ezzie. There were 4 to choose from, an albino, two sables (both male) and Cookie. A 'cinnamon' was how she was sold ot us, but she has darkened a lot over time. Shannon picked her up straight away, and said 'this one'. Cookie is our litte escape artist. She has got outside and been missing for hours more times that I can remember. She always comes home. She loves to come places with us. To the city, to the park, to the beach, she's our 'bum bag' ferret. :) She tolerates kisses, but will occasionally end her kiss with a quick nip on the lips. She war dances everywhere.

Thumper~Our albino 9 weeks old. We bought Thumpa from the pet store on Friday last week. Weoriginally wanted to get a dark sable boy, cos we'd never had a boy before. Thumpa was the only ferret there.. The pet shop lady said a sable would be coming in the next day, so we left with the sable in mind. In the car on the way home, I couldn't get over how good Thumpa's attitude in the store was. And I just couldn't leave him there alone.. So I convinced my fiance, Shannon to let me get both, Thumpa and the sable. As soon as he agreed I drove back to the pet shop and picked him up that day. Thumpa is a complete character. He dooks, squawks, meeps and mumbles. He is obsessed with Shannon's feet. He loves sock monsters, and you have to wear shoes when he's in the room. He is HUGE, bigger than our girls already and has grown so much since we brought him home. He loves to dunk his whole face in the water bowl and run around dripping. He's got huge feet. He hasn't bitten me hard yet, we haven't had to litter or nip train him at all. He's an angel.

Alfalfa~Our sable, white chest, feet. 6 weeks old. Alfie came home with us on Saturday. While we were waiting for a call about the sable, the pet shop rang and told me 10 baby ferrets had been brought in. I picked Alfie because of his colours, he was so tiny when I brought him home, with ribs poking out. Duck soup fixed that pretty soon-He's got a big fat belly and a very contented look on his face ;) I think he ws too young to be taken away from his mum, as he wasn't weaned properly. Alfie and Thumpa have become good friends-even though Thumpa is 3 times Alfie's size. Alfie gets his own cage at the moment, because he is so little I'm scared the others might hurt him by accident. Alfie sleeps a lot at the moment, wakes up and eats, poos a bit and sleeps some more. He likes exploring and playing with socks. If he's hungry he lets you know by biting your hands like they are food. Other than that, he doesn't bite at all. He squeaks like a mouse when he plays with Thumpa. He's not very vocal though.

Rocky is Mr. neat and tidy.  A place for everything, and everything in it's place.  He spends most of his out of cage time looking over the hidey holes and making sure everything's in order.  He's also our best dooker.  He can jump a foot straight in the air, laughing the whole time.  He's very gentle and has never bitten at all, not even play bites.  He's the lightest sleeper and will wake up at even the tiniest jingly bell sound.

Miss Twinkles is next.  She is all lady and it shows.  I swear I can picture her wearing a little straw hat and sipping iced tea, lol.  She's very dainty, and very cautious.  She loves to be held, and is perfectly content to just lay in your arms and sleep.  She follows Sneaker everywhere and wants to be just like her 'big sister'.  She is also very gentle and only bites when you rough her up playing.  When I first got Twinkles and Spike they hadn't had out of cage time in a while.  The girl I got them from said it had been 2 weeks, but I think it was longer than that.  For the first 3 weeks I had her, she would come out of the cage and go directly to the blanket on the floor and go to sleep.  She knows how to play now and can go 2-3 hours without a nap.  She is usually the first one to put herself to bed though.  She's not a very good dancer, she tries but she just ends up hopping backwards (hehe)

Spike is my big squishy boy.  He is the only one that will give kisses, but he's also the only one who does the lick lick chomp thing on my ankles.  He didn't start out as a biter, but more and more he wants to bite anything that moves, human and ferret both.  He is the meanie, grabbing the other fuzzies by their necks and dragging them under the bed.  Ooooh, the screams they let out are just horrible!  But, no blood or poo, so I guess it's normal, even though I don't like it.  Spike isn't a good dancer either, he's too heavy.  He tries to hop and he can't get his butt off the ground.  A hoot to watch though.  Spike doesn't bite hard during play, but if you try to grab him from behind, he turns into exorcist ferret and whips his head around to latch on to whatevers grabbing him.  He will also ATTACK when he hears a squeak toy, I guess he thinks we are hurting a baby.  Spikes my musher, I love to grab him up (carefully to not get bit) and cuddle him by my face.  He smells like grapes.

Sneaker.  Well, I could write a book just on her.  She's about 10 ferrets rolled into 1!  She's the changeling of the bunch, spitting image of an Albino when I got her, now she has color all over the place, but still those ruby red eyes.  She has so much energy, and so much expression on her little face.  She's always trying to get into something she shouldn't.  Most of her out of cage time is spent with me running after saying  no Sneaker, don't do that Sneaker, come back here Sneaker, Sneaker where are you.  I can't believe the girl that had her before named her Precious.  Pfft! Sneaker loves to tease the big dog.  She knows she's safe in the cage, so she goes down to the bottom and gets eye level with her, sticks her nose through the bars and then pulls back like shes saying 'haha!  you can't get me'  Sneaker is the mastermind who figured out how to open the cage doors, imagine my surprise when she came sauntering out into the living room one day, looked at me and nodded her head like 'yep, I figured it out'  Locks on all doors were soon to follow.  Sneaker is also the only one I've had that has had any kind of illness so far.  Her little vulva got so big it looked like it was gonna pop.  I was such a worried mom while she was in for surgery.  In no time flat she was back to her feisty self and very unhappy with her recovery cage and no play time:(  She was the first one to decide she liked the soup I made for them, now they all suck it down except Twinkles who won't go near it.   Ooooh, Sneaker!  I feel like I should be chasing after her just writing about her!  She's not a biter either, except when you're playing with her.  She can make it through the 20 foot clear tube in record time, and she's small enough she can turn around in the tube and zip back out the other way.

Tassie and Sydney One day while we were out shopping at a petshop for toys to spoil our dog Kacey , we came across and fell in love with a little ball of dark sable fuzz with white bib that looked so much  like a little baby Tasmanian devil that we named him Tassie straight away. We decided to get him a playmate there and then, so he wouldnt get lonely without all his brothers and sisters, a little ball of chocolate sable fuzz caught our eye and that was Sydney. The Australian theme names had now started . Tassie and Sydney bonded quickly and were quite a team. They attached themselves to me very quickly and had become My Boys. Sadly Sydney passed away at 7mths of age after a very short illness by a mystery desease.

Darwin and Adelaide(Addy) One day my hubby decided he needed a little girl of his own, so we went in search of Adelaide. We found Adelaide  whilst out and about on a day trip to a mall in St Louis. She was in a cage with a bundle of Fuzz and was the first to see us, so this little bundle of chocolate sable wobbled over to us as if to say "I pick you".  And because the boys had grown in leaps and bounds in such a short time that we thought "Addy" was so small that she would also need a playmate :) so along came my snuggle bug Darwin in the form of a little chocolate sable with 4 white mitts. Adelaide was the Princess or Queen Mab she stayed tiny but she ruled over the boys. She was dainty and definately daddys girl and would often walk up to him and gently put a paw on his leg and wait till FD noticed so he could pick her up. Darwin was my flying ferret he would launch himself off furniture in hope he would make it to the next piece of furniture and more often than not on to me,  he learnt moves watching wrestling on TV that he would practice on his siblings so we had to ban him from watching it. When he would bounce around the room he would hiss and it sounded like he was laughing, going hee hee hee.
