One of the commuters I ride with is a real computer geek. In fact, he is a computer tech that flies all over the U.S. and to England on regular visits. He just got back from a trip and I asked him if he had been thoroughly searched at the airport. He said that while the search was more thorough than usual, the agents completely overlooked a multi-tool as well as a pocket knife that he keeps in his laptop carry on bag. He had forgotten about the knife in his pack, and only uses it to work on computers. However, he was able to board several flights over the past week and was never asked about it! Comforting, huh? |

Donna, Tom and I flew home last week from Portland, OR. We saw little extra security except for no check-in at curbside and there were a few policemen walking around in Portland and Cincinnati. Did you happen to see the small report in the newspaper about Al Roker----the NBC weatherman? He had batteries and razorblades taken away in security last week. He went to a shop----inside security and bought more-----took them back to security to show them. I guess security is going to have to be worked on-----like many things in our lives today! Sylvia |

Funny that you started this topic. My hubby is feeling well enough in over 2 years to start working again. It is not easy for a man of 45 with 2 years out of "action" to get a job. But since the terrorist attack he has gone to an interview per day and offered all kind of courses. He is very much interested in working at the local City Airport or at a Designers place looking after the clothes and models (hmmmm.... might have to think about this). His expertise in hidden weapons and surveilance is now needed. He would be there as a manager to train the staff. He would not be cheking the stuff himself. Some security guards do not even deserve the title..... to mind comes Police Academy the movie. Peace Dani |

In an article in the Atlanta Journal Constitution Sunday, it was mentioned that "security guards" at the baggage x-ray machines start out at lower pay than foodworkers at the airport. Job turnover at Hartsfield for these people was somewhere around 335% for the previous year, and somewhere around 450% at another airport. Security functions are provided by private firms, I assume on a low bid basis, and are controlled by the airlines, who pay for them. Lots of changes coming I expect. Bob |

This lack of security is so sad. I know I won't be making any trans-Atlantic plans anytime soon. |

A lot of people wont be flying for a long while if they can postpone it. We wanted to visit friends in NY at Easter and it is still planned but guess only time will tell as to what will happen and if we feel safe enough to fly. Peace Dani |
