hey all, i wanted to tell you that i've finally dropped the meth clinic!! i've been there 5 yrs, and have given over 400$ a month the whole time. i have mixed emotions about this drug. first and foremost, it took me away from a lifestyle of disease, crime, self hate and many other things, so for that i am thankfull. but, i feel that the endercurrent at a clinic is for shear profit, not for help of addicts, not for lifestyle counsel, or for any of the other things we have to change . when in need, this drug was a miracle. but from the first yr on i fealt as if i were being pulled into the clinic farther so they could get deeper in my pockets. these counselors are young women fresh out of school looking for work. they don't know the first thing about addiction, or anything about the psyche of a patient in need od help. all they know is what they have read. well, enough, good luck to all.still not 100% clean, but i haven't touched dope in yrs, or any needles. later guys & gals, dagan6 |

Good luck to you for real. I was on meth only for a short time (spent it in the hospital kicking heroin they put me on methadone withdrawl program. Sure I kicked the junk but I didnt get what i really needed which was relearning how to live drug free, or learning how to live period! So I went back to the junk. However today is today and I have been clean off drugs since Feb 7, 2001. over one and a half years. I have a beer now and then, big deal. Basically it is a whole lifestyle change. There was a time in my life, I remember saying, I cannot live without heroin or meth. Period. That was it. But truth is I can, I feel way more normal then I ever did high. Took a while to get the shit out of my system but once it is gone, and I kept busy, set goals and accomplished them it all came together. You can do it, decide what you want to be when you 'grow up; (are totally clean) and it will happen if you can picutre yourself living that life. Its a good life out here in the real world. Even hangin with straight people, its pretty cool So good luck with you on your journey Diana |

I wish anyone who gets off of the methadone all the success in the world, but I get abit of a chuckle about the financial complaints of being on methadone---face reality, the USA is NOT a country with socialized medicine--everything is a business including MMT (clinics)--the government NEVER gave you free heroin & its not gonna give you free methadone (there are a few exceptions in certain states)...Us junkies were willing to spend $100 to $500 a day on smack but now we bitch about $5 or $10 a day for the clinic -- well life isn't always fair, haven't you realized that yet-- sorry if I offend anyone, but we're all grownups here & thats my opinion for what its worth--If methadone is helping you get your life together then the money factor or the motivation of your clinic should be quite secondary....We can always try to become Swiss citizens & then we'll get free heroin or free methadone from our government--sounds good to me............................indigo |

the money thing wasn't the problem, in the beginning. but when you feel like you have finally found a place willing to "HELP", u dont care about the money. but ever time, realizing it is just a business, like u said, things begin to look a lil different. i never asked for free drugs. i asked for "HELP" ! i understand ur point, and i agree, yet for me this clinic was going to be my salvation, haha, yet is was a way for them to gain profit from pain.when searching for help, and a helping hand is extended, we don't think of money, or pride, i guess some of naively think we are really getting help. so, thats all for now. have a good one. beer & jagermeister on me. later,d6 |

There was a time when Methadone was free. All the clinics were run by the state in N.J. I was on the Methadone for 12yrs. 100mgs a day. Had up to 6 take homes at one time. The end finelly came in 1990. It was real bad. Cold turkey. No Hospital or nothing. Man i was sick. To this day anytime i am temped to start that shit again,i remmember how bad it was. Been almost 13yrs now in afew days. It`s been a tough time over the years. Many up`s and downs. Thats the way it goes i guess. |

Indigo I totally agree with you. I currently spend $330.00USD a month for my methadone treatment. I have paid as low as $270.00 at a clinic I was on prior to the one I am on now. I also paid ZERO when I first got on because I was on state medical coupons. I have a medical coupon right now but there aren't any openings for medical coupons right now. I am on the waiting list though. See at the clinic they have a certain amount of pay slots and medical coupon slots and private insurance slots and medical voucher slots provided by Seattle City Counsel. So at some point I will be able to use my medical coupon. The financial women said I should be able to switch within the next three months, I hope so. I have been on the waiting list for six months already. Methadone has helped me immensely. Methadone itself is a life saver, the clinic's that dispense it are another story completely. As time has gone by I feel better and better. My life is so full now and so different from my using days. Time has really helped me. As time goes by I get further and further away from the old me and my old ways. I don't crave dope and I don't miss anything about it. Take care Tk |

Or Canadian... I am on 150 mg. per day and I pay zip... Most of the meth here is done by your family Dr. No clinics, no being treated as a sub-human species. I get one weeks worth at a time and when I work out of town or up north I get a month at a time. Our medicine is all socialized here; it depends on your yearly income. If your income is below a certain number then you don't pay for prescriptions. As your income rises there is a deductible that you have to pay and when you reach the deductible the rest is free for the remainder of the year, of course when your income is very high you would never reach your deductible or maybe when you are over $100,000.00 or something there is no deductible.... Unfortunately I've never had that problem... As far as paying the Dr. that is done by our universal health insurance that you are eligible for from birth. When I was married with 3 kids I believe I paid about $60.00 a month for the whole family. Unfortunately we have an election coming soon and the Conservative Party wants to move towards the U.S. model of health care and I think that every Canadian that gives a shit about the future of our country get out and vote those assholes into a great big pit... and bury them deep.A woman that lives here was vacationing in Florida and she went into premature labour and had to have an emergency c-section. She came home with a bill of over $200,000.00, she said her itemized bill included how many tissues she used! Anyway, they were going to have to sell their house and even then it wouldn't be enough... Luckily the government stepped in and let her health insurance pay it. I can't see how you guys can get proper health care under your private - for profit system... I doubt if I would have made it to this ripe old age if I lived down there... our health care system has kept me alive a few times. Like right now I'm being treated for HepC... $2000.00 per month if I had to pay for it. Well. that's enough ranting for the time being. I don't post often but lately this health care thing has been a huge issue here because of all the baby boomers getting old and not enough tax money coming in from a smaller work force, (so they say...) to fund our current system so they look south and think there's an answer there... Why not look at a few European countries and see how they do it? It's done with higher taxes but no one wants to hear about that... at least until they are dying in a gutter somewhere and can't find a hospital that will let them in the door... Sorry... pet peeve... got carried away a bit there... raskalnikov |

Dear Raskal,
You are so right about the insurance in the
US. My husband and i are self employed and insurance has creeped to up to
almost 900.00 a month. And do you think they pay for
shit???????????????????????????????
Our deductables are so high before they pay for
anything we have to pay first.
It is a major problem.
I just saw a commercial for John Kerry last night
and that was the crucks of his message, was health care. It is a bunch of
bullshit.
Remember Clinton, he based his whole campaign on
INSURANCE FOR EVERYONE.
Of course it didnt happen.
Have a great day, love karen

Hey Lovingmom- you should thank your lucky stars for your rate. After I lost my job (which covered my health insurance) we had to get it on our own and cuz of my "health background" (meaning history of addiction) most places simply refused to insure me or my family. When we did find someone who would, the price is just astronomical. But I actually shouldn't complain cuz I learned that the suboxone I take would cost close to $1,000/mo. Plus other meds I take and that my wife take, we'd be paying about $1,500/mo just for monthly meds if I had to pay out of pocket and with this insurance it's less than $100 for everything. But how many people can afford what I'm paying for insurance? The system in this country sucks- what should be a basic human right is a priviledge, and one reserved for those who have the money to pay in the first place. The whole thing is upside down. I do think Clinton tried to fix it, but it's so hard with the political climate of this country. And I think Kerry will at least try to fix it; maybe he'll be the one to do it. Bush just doesn't even give a shit. Marco |

I know...I have no insurance because the COBRA payment on my last job was fucking ridiculous and I make too much for Medicaid. Thank God I'm not taking any meds (for now at least) or the prices would kill me...I don't want to be starving after being clean for 2 years, you know? It was hard enough when I was using!
