im writing this to ask for prayer as i come up to my six month ann. of not cutting myself and as time goes on i am finding it harder and harder not to....i long to feel the edge of the razor sink into my skin and feel the blood run out....i know that the only way that i can continue on this tough journey is through the Lord and through prayer and support from the people around me.....but as of right now i have no one to turn to but the Lord i am alone with no friends around as i have just moved...if  you all could please pray for me in this extremely hard battle that i will triumph over this terrible bad habit for many months to come...

i have fallen in my battle against myself....i fell one day short of six months and i am extremely disappointed in myself that i was unable to go on this journey.....i am now working and stopping again tho finding it hard and am looking for new ways to help stop......but i have also come to realize that part of the reason is the inner child in me calling out saying you know u haven't dealt with the past and the abuse you just pushed it to the side.......its now time to start dealing with it or its going to kill you.....so as i try and stop once again i am also dealing with all the anger that i feel towards certain people as well as working through all the horrible memories..... thanx for all your prayers and ask you to continue for i can't do it alone...without the help of my Lord.....

 Self Injury / Self Harm

This is a common problem for people who are depressed, have eating disorders, borderline personality disorder, OCD, and other mental illnesses. Self injury has many names. Cutting, self abuse, self harm, self mutilation, among others. I will use self injury because well I don't like what the words Mutilation and Abuse symbolize.

What is Self-Injury?

Self-Injury is any action that is done with the goal of hurting, but not killing yourself. This can range from, biting, and pinching, to the most common form cutting, to repeated drug overdosing, to burning to breaking your own limbs. Some of you may be shuddering at the thought of taking a knife to your skin or breaking your own arm. I know the prospect of breaking my arm makes me cringe in pain. but for others this pain is one that they crave, that they feel they need in order to deal with there lives. it is a coping mechanism, but not a healthy one. For the most part self injurers do it to appease something inside of them, rarely is it a way to get attention, or a way to annoy or upset others, generally if someone injures for those reasons there behaviour is classified elsewhere.

Why do people self-injure?

The answer to that question is different for everyone. Much like it is for why someone develops and eating disorder. we could speculate that those reasons are similar since many eating disorder sufferers also self injure., and starving ones self or binging and purging are forms of self-destructive behaviour in their own right. But little is known on this correlation. or at least I haven't read anything much about it. Some reasons? To actually feel. this may seem ridiculous, doesn't everyone feel? well for some self-injurers they don't allow themselves to feel things like sadness, anger, hurt all the negative emotions that we can feel as humans, doing this for a prolonged period results in the sense of a lack of feeling. and the only way to keep things real to be allowed to feel something negative is to make it a physical feeling of pain rather than a emotional pain. For most it is sensation related, be it the pain, or the feeling of oozing blood, like a release, or the sensation of power over ones body. This is a tough thing to explain without giving you examples. I hope to be able to post up a sufferers story or too in the future for you to read and understand the extend of this behaviour.

What can you do if you self-injure?

Ask for help. This isn't something you can fight totally on your own, you are injuring in order to deal with something, it is a coping mechanism, you need to replace that with something, and often the best thing is to talk about it. to get help from someone who can listen and be objective. Usually this would be a counsellor, therapist, doctor, psychologist, your parents, a teacher whoever you feel comfortable with. When you feel the need to hurt yourself, take a moment to reflect on why you feel that way. Is there something you could do instead? maybe take a hot bubble bath, or go for a run, write a story, or call a friend or a help line, or call 1-800-dont-cut. try waiting the urge out. give yourself a set amount of time before you will give in start with 5 minutes usually that is enough sit with the urge (yes i know it is uncomfortable to do) and see if you cant sit it out without acting on it.

What to do if you think someone you know is self injuring.

Talk to them, but know that most people wont admit directly to it. But be prepared if they do. Offer to help get them help, go with them to the school counsellor, or to a clinic, call a therapist for them or with them. Be a good friend. don't get mad at them, they are probably mad at themselves already for doing it. be supportive in whatever decisions they make, and let them know what you are capable of helping them with.

I am praying for you Sprouty.. You have the right in Jesus' name to rebuke those spirits that want you to harm yourself. I would like for you to read this verse of scripture.. write it down and carry it with you at all times.. this is Gods promise to you dear.. believe it.. God cannot lie... his word is truth.. read this out loud to yourself when you feel these emotions overwhelm you to hurt yourself.. This is for you my dear....

Ph'p 4:13.. I  (Sprouty) can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

When you speak this out loud, you are rehersing it into your ear, and it will get down into your soul... and one day you will find yourself quoting this verse without having to look at the paper it is written upon.
You can do it Sprouty.. I have faith in you.. but most importantly.. God loves and believes in you. Give us a praise report of how you are doing.
God bless you, Flower

Thankyou God! O Lord my heart breaks to hear this, and also rejoices to know she is doing better! Lord hold sprouty close to you and let your love just pour into her life and satisfy the every inch of her. O Father open her eyes and heart fully to the love you have for her. God give her more and more victory in her fight against this sin that is entangling her. Father give her triumph over the evil one and his constant fight for her life. Lord we know she does not any longer belong to him, so FAther put him in his place. By the power and blood of Jesus Christ i say behind satan, she isnt yours. She belongs to God and you no longer have any part of her life. Father please protect sprouty and give her the desire to live and know you more. Make those desires so much more stronger than the ones she has to cut herself. Thankyou Father for how far you ahve brought her! How you have been showing her how to survive and Lord i pary for the healing on her heart. Lord i know there are many open wounds, and i know you are bringing healing. God give her the stength to make it to tomorrow, just tomorrow. Hold her near to you and dont let her go please Lord. Thankyou God for bringing her up out of the darkness and into the light. O Father thankyou!! Lord please continue her on her way to you Lord in victory and triumph over this way of the past. FAther i also ask, Lord please putpeople in her life that will encourage her and come along side her to let her know she isnt alone and she can rely on good godly people to be with her in her times of need. O Lord please bring these people into her life. Father touch her heart especially today, please Lord. In your name i pray these things Jesus, amen
