I heard that at our morning meeting, they were told that all PT folks will be cut to 20 hours.  That really scares me, because it could put a lot of people in financial trouble.
According to the local paper, W*M is one of the few companies that's consistently hiring.  So that narrows the field a lot, if you need a job with more hours.
I figure it will also but more pressure on those of us who are left.  Sometimes it feels like I can't do any more, but then, a lot of times I can.  It makes me even more grateful to have a steady job, with insurance.  My older sister works in the home health care business, and it is such a racket!  She can only get the jobs through an agency, so that means no insurance.  She spends about $1000/month on medication.  Thank goodness my Mom was able to buy her a condo, so she should always have a place to live.

Thanks for the clarification, Learning, I was confused.
I need to look at my health insurance too.  Mine went from about $24 per paycheck, to $56, this year.  After having all those medical expenses last year, I chose a $1000 max payout, and $500 deductible.  Your max payout reflects how much $ Blue Cross paid out for your bills.  It doesn't include all the other $ you had to fork out.

Mad I had the $350.00 but didn't know I also had to hit the 2,000 out of pocket expense.I now have medicare so I took the lowest  coverage I could get. My payment went to $21.70 from $71.40 every pay. I now have $500.00 free doctors visits and no Co pay. They don't do a very good job of explaining it to the associates.

I agree.  I stay confused about when you can claim payements from your short or long term disablitity coverage.  I THINK you can start after you've been out of work for 3 weeks.  Last year, I thought you had to wait until you had no more vacation/personal/sick time to use.  Someone told me recently that you don't have to use up your vacation time.
Now I'm nearing the end of the year, and can't believe how good it feels, not to be worrying about paying off another big medical bill!

Are you talking about using Short Term Disability, Mad?

Here's a few facts....

You can use that if you are on a medical LOA after fulfilling the 14 day waiting period.

Until you hit that 14 days, you can use any sick/vac/personal time.

After that, Hartford pays you once your claim is approved.  I believe on average, people tend to get 40-50% of their gross earnings.

I've heard before that people have had a wait to get their STD checks...because of Hartford or their doctors not filling out the proper paperwork.

At my store all full time and part time associates got there hours cut. So beware everybody. I feel that is a new trend that Bentiville is doing to every associate.

Thanks for the info, WalMartGal--I was hoping you'd respond to that post.  After the waiting period, can you still use vacation/sick/personal time too?  I thought you couldn't use both, which is why I never filed for STD.  And I pay for both STD and LTD.  I was out of work for 10 weeks over a year's time, and was able to use my accrued hours to cover most of it.

No, you can't do both at the same time.  We've  had associates at our store think they could (after we repeatedly told them) and they had to pay the STD company back.  I think the associates think we are lying to them, but we can't convince them otherwise.

it is confusing though.  we had an associate go to our market HR person and she told them they had to use all of their vac/sick/personal time first and then they could collect STD.    Not correct.
