My co-mgr, with whom I have had tense discussions, as well as lots of fun, had to move to West (by God!) Virginia, because his wife needs to be near her family.  I know he wasn't planning to leave, until he got his own store.  Today was his last day.  I think it was hard for him to leave.  He said good-bye after we had cake in the lounge for him, and then at some point, he left, without fanfare.   I think he was sad to leave us, and I know the folks who work hard in our store respected the way he did his job.
Two days ago I told him that he was the best mgr (at any level) that I have had, in my 16 years.  He said he wasn't always the easiest one to get along with, and I told him "That's not what we're here for."  After some initial conflicts with him, I learned to let go of being pissed off at him, because he was fair, and never held a resentment.

It's near Wheeling.  Some long name I can't remember. He said it's 2 years old.

That would be Tridelphia, I bet.  I was offered an interview for that store as Asset Protection Coordinator when it first opened.  I didn't do the interview because at the time, I couldn't take the chance I would get the job.  It would have been a 2 hour each way commute for me, and way to much to live there.  Sometimes I do wish I had gone for that interview though.  That is one of the stores our Bakery associates went to for their training when this store opened here.  Nice store!  He will like it there, I bet.

Yes, that's it.  I'm glad to hear that you think he'll like it.
They are following the "new" store structure, which I assume means that they have merchandise supervisors, instead of dept mgrs.  He seemed unsure of how he'd like that.  But every store is a change, no matter what.  He'll be fine.
