I used to be pretty high up in the school district union here. I do know that even without certain labor laws in place or lack of a contract there is a stress related factor of having to work in a place where management does nothing to stop harrasment by other employees. You can tell management that they are harboring and creating a "Hostile Work Environment" and Yes, in most states you can file suit if you document each and every time you tell management that you have a problem and they fail to act. It is not a funny subject and you have the right to pursue work in a hostile free work environment.
Tips to use:
Keep a small notepad in your pocket with a pen.
Write down as best as you can what the person said or did.
The time and date.
What you noticed that may jog your memory later if testifying.(Such as "That was the day Manager Tim got yelled at by that mad customer".
When you go to mngmnt, whip out your notepad. Tell them you are documenting this and jot down what they say ( This gets attention FAST!)
Tell them that you will be following up with them on such and such date to see what their solution to the problem is and what steps they are going to take.
Most importantly, Follow thru with the meeting and bring your note pad every time. Even if its to just doodle...Drives em crazy wondering what you are writing about them.
I have to warn ya....They could retaliate. But if you have good notes, and they do, ya have a hell of a lawsuit!
