Yeah I would just because they declare bankruptcy doesn't mean they'll close up (just like Kmart). If people go out and buy their cars maybe then they could recover. Personally I think GM will survive this but I doubt Chrysler will. I think Ford will be stronger than ever when this rough time has past |

As long as I was assured of warranty service, I might. |

yes. the warranty usually comes from a third party, and i imagine all the parts could also come from a third party as well. in fact, it might help the economy by creating more jobs in the 3rd party market for auto parts... as far as i am concerned, all a chapter 11 means is a reorganization which means they have to come up with a plan to recover ... granted, that doesn't always happen, but i believe with auto manufacturers, they would have the ability to bring in someone to clean house for them. |

I bet one of the other mfgs. would honor warranties if the company completely closed. I think a lot of the third party suppliers would close though because usually they will supply only one of the car companies. If they don't supply just one they will have one that is the majority of their business. |

here in the dfw area one of the loacal GM dealers had to close their doors for lack of sales one of the former dealerships complaints was that GM wasn't paying for warranty work required, nor were they reimbursing for new car purchase discounts. i feel for the 3rd party suppliers to the makers, but where do you draw the line? and as for extended warranty suppliers, they won't pay until after the original warranty has gone out... just my input... reb |

but (as an afterthought) regarding extended warranties, (and this doesn't really have to do with the topic at hand, overall), it is best to buy your own extended warranty rather than getting it through the dealer... we have a client who deals in the extended warranties and the lady there that i deal with told me how much she would have charged me for the extended warranty vs. how much i actually paid. when she told me (and i don't remember the amount now because it has been a couple of years), i said, "PER YEAR?" (LOL) and she said "No. Total." I mean, the dealer tacked on an extra zero to what i paid for my extended warranty through them. i could have KICKED myself for that... so next vehicle i buy, i am going through my client instead! i had no clue that was what they did till it was too late! |
