Laying out the Tarot When doing a spread, try to look beyond the general interpretations. Allow the cards to let you flow through each. Discribe your feelings what stands out and if you are drawn to another card that is in the spread.By applying all of your senses , sight touch, smell, hearing , and what you are feeling that comes off the card(s) . Tell what it is that you actually see in the cards add it with the general interpretation and know that when you read for another It should be to tell what actually comes through the cards. for it is with the focus of letting the Querent know what is needed not what the Querent wants to know but what is needed to know. This I feel is best for reading for another. Reason , sometimes what we think we want to know is not the priority of where andof what is needed to know that would be best for the Querent.this is only my humble opinon and what my experiences are when I read for others. | Spreads and Interpretations The SevenCard Ellipse Spread This spread is good for asking about a project. - Draw seven cards. Do not turn them face up.
- Shuffle these seven cards and lay them out as shown in the diagram on the preceding page.
- Turn them over, one by one.

A Tarot spread for determining a course of action You could try this spread for determining a course of action - it's a Five Card Spread:
1: The present or general theme of the reading 2: Past influences still having effect 3: The future 4: The reason behind the question (this will probably shed light on 2) 5: The potential within the situation.
This is a very useful spread when trying to decide a given course of action. Card 4 will often reveal a subconscious impulse - perhaps a blockage which is stopping you from achieving your desired result. Card 5 shows the possible results from taking a given course of action. The spread works best if, whilst selecting the cards, you concentrate on one aspect of the decision, rather than either/or type questions. |

The Mirror Spread This spread works primarily on existing relationships, but can assess anything from a budding love affair to an established partnership. It will often reveal inconsistencies between viewpoints - for example if the cards at 2 and 3 contradict one another, there is a need to re-assess and re-adjust points of view, or take into account the input of the other person. Obstacles will sometimes produce very positive cards - look carefully under the surface if you find this, rather than assuming everything is fine! The probable result card is drawn with circumstances as they currently are - but if changes recommended by the reading are effected, then this final card can change. Here is the spread: 1: The querent. 2: The way you see the other person in the relationship. 3: The way they see themselves. 4: What the person represents to you. 5: What you represent to them. 6: Obstacles within the relationship. 7: Strengths within the relationship. 8: Probable result. | | |

The Single Card is actually a very useful Tarot tool for meditations, simple questions and daily practice. I usually pull a single card for myself daily to get a view of how my day will go and to get advice or inspiration. Yes you can read for yourself. The only problem you will usually find reading for your self is your own opinions. You may find yourself reading only the good parts of a card or spread or conversely reading to harshly so as to not give yourself false hopes. My best advice here is to look into your heart when you read and know that you are being true to yourself.
You can also pull a single card to meditate on, sleep on, or just to contemplate. I often do single card pulls for individuals in groups, or at parties just to give people an idea of what Tarot can tell them. The Cross The cross can help to find your direction in crises or complex situations. 1. This is what it is all about, the core of the issue. 2. This is not important now, you should not do this. 3. This is very important now, this you should do. 4. It will lead to this.
The Star The star is a good spread if you wish to receive more clarity and insight in a problem. 1. The nature of the problem. 2. What influences the matter in a positive way. 3. What influences the matter in a negative way. 4. The past. 5. The present. 6. The future. 7. Final judgment

The Gypsie Spread The magical spread of the gypsie can be used to get an overview of the present situation of a person. 1. This is the person in the present situation and mood. 2. This is the impression you make in the outside world. 3. This is what you hide behind that appearance (consciously or unconsciously). 4. This is what you want to do, your actions. 5. This is how you feel and what you will reach. 6. What comes afterwards, the future. 7. This is what that will mean to you 15 Card Spread The fifteen-cards-spread is very helpful in pointing out trends, psychological and karmic influences and future developments. Try it! This spread makes more use of the relationships of the cards to one another, so a card may be well- or ill-dignified depending on the influence of the card to the left or right of it. 1. Represents the questioner or the issue. 2. Circumstances surrounding the situation. 3. Personality of the questioner.
6- 10 - 14. Indicate the psychological basis of the issue; they can assist in deciding what may be necessary.
7- 11 - 15. Show forces behind one's control, destiny or karma.
13 - 9 - 5. And 4 - 8 - 12. Show possibilities for the future. If the left and right upper cards complement each other, you can look at them as one development. If the left and right upper cards are in conflict, then the right upper cards show the future if the questioner does not change his present attitude, and the left upper cards point out a possible future if the person does change his direction.
You can buy books with hundred or more spreads. The real art of reading the Tarot however lies not in mastering as many lay-outs as you can find, nor in quoting all card-meanings from memory. What really matters is an open-minded, respectful and intuitive attitude towards the wonders of life in all its variety, what enables you to receive valuable information and insight. Enjoy your journey of self-discovery and have fun with the cards! |

More on the Relationship spreads Relationship spreads are very difficult, because You are dealing with two people, their lives, thoughts, and emotions simultaneously.
You are also looking at the very alive, shifting, and quixotic reality created by the afore mentioned attributes of two people, the third entity we call, the relationship.
You lay it out in three columns. The columns are read both downwards, and from both sides inward. It is set up so that the left column shows Person 1’s path through the relationship; the right column shows that of Person 2. The center column is read both as a separate (third) entity, AND dependant upon the paths of person 1 & 2.
Left column Person 1 Feels this is the emotional baggage. Person 1 Needs intellectualized emotion Person 1 Expected Outcome
Right Column Person 2 Feels this is the emotional baggage. Person 2 Needs intellectualized emotion Person 2 Expected Outcome
Center Column Core (what the relationship is founded on) Needs (what the relationship needs) What we can expect of the relationship (expectations) The future of the relationship. (Probable reality)
This relationship spread is tricky, and appears slightly difficult. It is not a, “A=1, B=2, C=3?type spread.
Row A is ‘stuff we drag around with us? Emotional baggage we use as a ‘root? or foundation ?this is also past. This is Ego’s Regret. Picture it as a large steamer trunk that we drag around…Marleys Ghost’s Chains?BR> Row B can be read as Hopes or Fears, Ego’s Anxiety about the unknown future. It could also be what we really need, on a very deep level that we don’t want to admit. This is our 'Now'.
So looking at the two outside columns separately, they tend to indicate Feel ?Need ?Result. However they also simultaneously represent P-P-F; AND baggage brought into the relationship, (They are read downward); simultaneously, but not really. You have to look at the cards and allow them to read themselves to you, let them tell you, “Hey! This is a need issue? or “Hey, I’m a Fear? Hopes and needs are similar.
After reading the two outside columns downwards, comes the big task. Reading from the outside towards the center.
A center card should not be read ‘by itself? it is best read as to how it has been 'created' by the two cards on either side. Or perhpas even...How it creates the cards on either side.
This spread is not so much about 'card meanings' as 'flow', and how the cards interact with each other.
For example, the second row is entirely dependant on the cards above it. The second row is a result...and the the third is a result...all the way down...
That's step two - the center is dependant on the outside cards, and lower cards are results of higher cards...
Step three (and the most difficult and strange)...
Look at the whole unit as a 'flow', not as 10 cards, but as 1 piece of art. look for how the power or love or passion play out as you move down (remember - you're not looking at 10 cards).
Here's a thought. Go to a gallery or a Museum first. Look at art.
Look at some Monet's. NOT online. Real live stuff. Dale Chihuly glasswork will do too.
Look at all kinds of art. Immerse yourself in art.
You don’t think about what Monet or Chihuly or Renoir or Granville or Dali or Escher or Roger Dean or Gauguin…or what they did or were 'trying to say'...or how they did it...
How does it make you feel?
Remember finger painting as a child in school? The feel of the paint between your fingers? The feel when you looked at the result?
That’s the flow you want to look at when looking at this spread. I often suggest laying it out so you can ‘get some distance? where a 7 of Swords loses its details, and becomes a blur of color.
Is there a card that the whole of the spread seems to 'revolve' around? Does one card work as a 'hinge'? Is there a balance all the way down? Does a harmonious whole become two distinct and separate entities with that last card making a singular statement?
Forget meaings - think art - think how does it make you feel...
Do not use reversals?BR> It is well worth investing the time to learn it. I have used this spread for years...with excellent results. |

Dynamic Relationship Spread
Spread Layout
1 .... 2
Positions
First Person In Relationship (the seeker) Second Person In Relationship
Dealing Out The Spread
This is not your usual spread and there can be anywhere from four (4) cards to a whole bunch of cards, [grin]. But don't worry, you only really have to read two (2) cards - or you can try reading all the cards in each stack/pile if you want. The first thing you want to do is to pick a 'Court Card Significator' for each person in the relationship. Note: You may wish to use a 2nd deck to select the two (2) Significators from.
Let's say you chose the; Queen of Swords for person #1 and the King of Pentacles for person #2
Set these two (2) cards out in positions #1 and #2 in the layout. Next shuffle and cut the rest of the deck as you normally would. When you are ready start dealing cards onto position #1 (1st Significator card) until you come up with 'another swords card'.
Example
Queen of Swords The Star Seven of Swords <= another swords card so you would stop dealing cards out
You then do the same thing with the second Significator card. Here I wasn't so lucky. Remember that here we are looking for another 'Pentacles' card because the Significator is the King of Pentacles.
King of Pentacles Four of Swords Nine of Wands Page of Swords The Chariot Ten of Swords Ten of Cups The Hanged Man Ace of Pentacles <= another pentacles card so you would stop dealing cards out
Whew - quite a few cards in this second stack. I would say because of the disparity between the number of cards in the two different stacks that the relationship doesn't look good. It also appears that person #2 has quite a few issues to resolve because there are nine (9) cards in stack #2 to only three (3) cards in stack #1.
Reading the Final (Top) 2 Cards
We ended up with these cards on the top of each stack: Seven of Swords ..... Ace of Pentacles
With the 7 of Swords the seeker seems to be afraid, or running away from making decisions, from commitments, and from their problems. They may be to much of a loner for any type of relationship at this time. They might also be looking at a relationship at this time for selfish reasons. Possibility they are trying to escape from another (worse) situation.
Looking at the Ace of Pentacles we probably have a person to wrapped up in their job, career, business, etc. for a meaningful relationship at this time - especially considering all the other cards that came up in this stack. They may have a lot, or to many financial and business type prospects coming up to spend much time making a relationship work.
All in all I'd have to say that any type of relationship between these two people is ... unlikely at best - and a possible disaster on their hands if they proceed.
You can now try reading the cards beneath the top cards to see what else you can come up with in the reading.
What If ...
What if another court card comes up on either, or both stacks as the last card drawn?
You might be looking at a love triangle. If it's a Queen and/or King then there might be a mother and/or father involved in some way with the situation - for good or ill. If a Page/s - a child or children might be involved. Any number of other possibilities (You're on your own).
Advise: Draw another card, or cards to clarify the top court card, or cards.
