In swedish bridge most people using a variant to Jacoby 2NT called Stenberg 2NT.

Either 2NT is gameforcing or invinting after a 1Major opening

1H - 2NT
3C -           Minium
3D -           15/16+ GF and no singeltons
3H -           Extra values and Club singelton
3S -           Extra values and Diamond singelton
3NT -        Extra values and singelton other Major
4 C/S/H     void

After showing minimum 2NT bidder can GF with 3D and ask for singeltons.
1H - 2NT
3C - 3D
Same as above except 4th level.
If no singeltons 1H opener always bid Cuebids on 4th level.

I like the convention and makes it more easy to either stop in time or find the nice fit slams.

/Stefan

thank you:

part of max hardys system /style of 2/1 is to use the jacoby 2nt response as a GF.it has a different meaning and his raises/bids are in place too as he wrote in his book "the problems with MAJOR SUIT RAISES and how to fix them"
this book outlines most of  the  points you posted

Stefan... I like it already... without even studying it much.
             I always hated   1M - 2NT
4M = minimum .... thus leaving NO room  for slam
investigation below game level in the
event Responder wanted to make a
                                                                  further "push".

Ok, I've studied it just a little bit... and you made a little "typo"
     1H   -  2NT
   4C/D/H = void ( where 4H = Sp void)

But I suggest a little change..... ( as I am prone to do)...

I would make those "stiff showing" bids mean "stiff OR void" ...
  and   4C/D/H  = 2nd 5 card suit  and 4H would mean 6h/5s .

Hi Tower,

I understand your point but I don't really agree. Knowing about a void is much more valuble information when next bid usally is a 4NT RKCB..
Also it's not so hard to "paint" a hand when you know about a min 5+ major and one void.

Very few conventions let the opening hand a chance to show a void and makes bidding to much random sometimes.

This is my thinking about it.
Recall that the "old" Jacoby 2NT used to use the 4-level jump by opener to show a void, but the modern trend  shows a 2nd 5 cd suit.   It is also felt that 1st Rnd Ctrl in the splinter suit ( in essence a void) can be shown at the next bid.. eg:
    1H                                      -  jac2NT!
    3H! ( extras + Cl splinter ) -  3S! ( cue) or 3NT! ( "Serious NT" asking for cues)
    4C!

BTW, I think you need to have this posted on the "mother board" ( General ).  Many don't use this board but I think they would find your treatment very interesting.

Hi again,

I didn't want to offend anyone by posting under the wrong subject, but if it's general that everyone using it's ok with me.. :)

Regarding your comment I can agree but I think that is for a well trained partnership, many people on the BC don't even use cue-bids..

1H - 4 H - 4NT - 5D - 6H.. I believe bidding like this is usally like a lotto draw..
For most people who would bid like above for sure should take a few minutes and learn at least Jacoby 2NT, RKCB 0314 and cue-bids.

www.msnbridgeclub.com have link to this page with 100's of conventions:

Jacoby 2NT:

RKCB:

Learning how cue-bid need a little bit more reading and I don't have any reference to it, but it's not complicated to learn.

And just a personal note about conventions;
I started play bridge when I was 14 years old and started play competetive bridge seriosly around 16-17 years old and played Junior national championship, Local and national teamleauge play etc.(Playing 2-3 times a week). I'm long away from being a top player but after 16 years play I learned something after trying learning and using every convention there is.. I tending to simplify my system, when you compete against experts you don't want to leave away to much information, it makes there card defending very easy...

Obali.... what happened to lead you to this conclusion?  Have you seen it in action ( with bad results ) during the recent tournament in Turkey ?

Jacoby 2NT is a treatment that needs to be buried.

I instead used this:

1H-2S/1S-3C as a art GF. Followups show min with and without shortage, nonmin with and without shortage and so on.

I also 1H-3S/1S-3NT as a 12+ to 16- with unknown shortage.

All of this is based on controls and losers.
