BOS or Grimoire of Magick

The most valuable and essential tool to the witch is a BOS (Book of Shadows). This is a collection of all your memories, rituals, etc. in one place.  Most modern Wiccans use a three-ring binder to make it easy to arrange documents and add  in other papers. This can, of course, be hand-written or printed from a computer.

What You Will Need

1 Three Ring Binder or Noteboo

All purpose Glue or A Glue

Parchment Paper

Card Stock (For your different dividers)

1 picture frame - you can get it at the dollar store)

decorations that represent who you are and if you want that represent the elements

A Picture to Fit the Frame - On it will be the title at the top and your sacred name at the bottom

If you dont have the software to do this you can take any picture and have it done at Staples. I can also help you with that. Remember this is an ongoing project and how you decorate it reflects who you are. Pleas email me at tasbelder1@ yahoo.com  so I can send you a picture of the 1st one I made.

Here is a list of what you should have inside your BOS:

The  Wiccan Rede
Include a copy of the rede. You may  also  want to have an evaluation of the rede- that is, "dissect" the rede  and  consider each statement, and write about its meaning and value  to your  practices. Our copy of the rede can be found here.

The  Sabbats
Have a copy of the eight major sabbats  and  include information on the importance of each one.

Calendar
A  calendar of the moon phases, progressions,  and the astrological  signs they are in each day. Mark new moons and full moons.  Also  include major events, holidays, and sabbats.

Magickal  Correspondences
A list of what each god and  goddess  represents, and a list of the meanings of herbs in magick, and the  symbolism of different candle colors. Maybe include a list of  the significance  of different scented incences.

Rituals  and Spells
Have a section of rituals and  spells you  find practical and useful, or you may need for future occasions.

Chants and Poems
Chants  or prayers you find  especially nice are good for your BoS collection.  Also, personal poetry and your  own hand-written chants would be  a great addition to your book.

Daily  Journal/ Dream Journal
A journal of daily  events and  occurences is always a good idea. A dream journal is also an  excellent  suggestion- recording and analyzing dreams can help you to become  more  in touch with your "third eye", or psychic awareness.

Insights
Your  path to learning can help you more in  the future if you are able  to look back on it. Ask yourself questions, and write  your responses  in a section of personal insights. As opposed to a daily journal,  this will not record actual events, but instead, will help you  to reflect on  theories and thoughts. Think about how you began  on this path, reconsider your  ways of life, think about the wonders  of reality, write a little on what Wicca  means to you and how  it's changed your outlook on life. Anything goes. And you  can  always return to a previous insight, and add what new views you've  stumbled  upon! Don't forget to write the time/date on each  entry!
Remember,  don't just stick a bunch of stuff into your BoS. Only  include  what you consider to be of value, and always make your own alterations.  If you put a ritual in their, write side-notes on what you decided  to change for  your purpose. If you put an inspirational article  in there, add your own  thoughts and ideas in the margins. But  remember on thing this is your BOOK OF  SHADOWS...

Starting the INSIDE of your BOS

How is your Book of Shadows coming along? I hope that you have your cover done or nearly so and we can now work on the inside.

Your first page should be a Book Blessing...or something to dedicate your book as a Book of Magick and Protection.  I hope you will really think about this and write something special.  You can look on the BoS board also as there is a generic Book Blessings there if you want to use that, feel welcome to do so.
The Cover page could be something like the above picture...again..I do encourage you to use your imagination on this..I will always give examples, but in the end , it is totally up to you how you want your book to look.  And each page may be as different of as similar as you feel you want it to be,  Each page has it's own magick.

The next post will be a copy of my own Book Blessing that is in my BoS..so Have fun creating and using some of your inspiration magick that I know resides inside.

Brightest Blessings Always
Lady Majyk

~ My Book Blessing ~

In the realm of magick this book shall reside.
On one but the chosen shall see what is inside.
If breath be to Air as passion to Fire,
Let harm none, this is my desire.
If life be to Earth as Water to emotions,
This book be filled with magickal potions.
May the Gods protect it, keep it from harm,
And upon it bestow power, magick & charm.
No one without wisdom, shall peer its pages,
Or knowlege inside handed down through the ages.
This book be it mine, it harbors no fears,
The knowlege obtained through blood, sweat & tears,
My Magick's my passion, the spirit's my guide.
The book may She bless it with spiritual light
And let only Her children read of its rite.
For those of the wicca truly can see,
That this is my will, so mote it be.

Greetings Everyone!!

I am so excited that you are interseted in this little project.  I hope that as we get started , others will want to join in as it will be something that each will want to do at one time or another.  Let's look at our Supplies:
  • a 3-ring Binder
  • a Picture Frame (about 3x5 is fine)
  • Some misc. things for decorations. (know that as you start working on this project, you may find other things you want to add so feel free to let your imagination soar..this will be your very special BoS.)
  • Glue...this should be a good  "fix-all" adhesive and not elmer's glue.
Ok..I guess you have all gotten your notebook and are ready to start.

As you gather your tools in front of you I want you to take a moment and touch each thing as you think about the sacred thing you are making. Take time to bless each thing and empower it with your own energy.

As you make this book, concentrate on making it with all the magick within you and within the universe.  This is your legacy and something that will hold your thoughts, your created spells, your information of yur path and all references you wish to put into it.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Today we are going to concentrate on the outside of your BoS.  So do not think about the contents just yet...lol.

I will give you some ideas, but the end product should be your idea..even if you use the samb\ples I will show you.  If you need help creating something, just let me know and I will be glad to help.In the next post, I will put a few pictures of past grimoire pictures I have made for other people.  You  can use something simila or end up doing as you will.  but whatever the result, this will fit within the frame you have made...minus the glass.

So for now..let's take a look...

 ********************************************************************
Hi Everyone!

I hope you all are enjoying the creation of today...I will be taking the pictures of the BoS art down soon so if there is any that you want..go ahead and copy them .  My storage space is a bit low at this time so I will have to delete these to make room for others ...Thanks for understanding.

I can't wait to get the "go" for the next step..

I will tell you that when you do get the picture made that you want on the front of the Grimoire, print off an example copy...make sure it fits exactly in the frame without any white edges showing...take out the glass from the frame to help you judge exactly..then trim it exactly to that size.  when it is exactly as you want it, copy it on Glossy Photo Paper and if you want ( I reccommend this) Take it to Staples and have it laminated.  It costs about a dollar to do this. and it will stand up to all time without fear of fading or distruction.

I will put another hint on soon..so have fun..and use your imagination!!

Hi Everyone,
How is everyone doing?  It is time to start putting things together.  If you have your picture selected and cut to the size of your frame... hopefully laminated (this is an optional step).   It is time to figure out where you want to place the frame and picture on your Binder.

If you want to cover your binder with vinal or other fabric, this would be the time to do it.  If you are doign this step, add your batting and fabric on before the frame and picture...(if you are doing this step, contact me for suggestions if you do not know how to do this.)

When you have decided where you will put the picture, glue this securely onto the binder then add the frame securing it firmly with the glue and allow this to dry completely before doing anything more.

Once the glue is dry, you may start embellishing it.  Some have used glitter and dementional paints with great results.  I used some brading on the example.  Other suggestions are stones, jewelry findings and/or elemental symbols and colors.

Here is a picture of my example for you to get some ideas for your own Book...then I hope you will share what you have created....then we will go to the NEXT step...the INSIDE...MWAaaaaaahahahaaaaaa!!!!

Have FUN!!

     Hugs
~Lady Majyk~
