I am posting Part One a little early so that you can take advantage of the weekend of waxing moon energy to do this!

Lesson Four- How to make a Potion

We are going to divide this lesson into two parts.

Part 1 will involve you “working?a potion which will be presented to you

Part 2 will involve you creating a potion and working it.

Part One:

The recipe below was created by Silver Ravenwolf and can be used to cleanse the floors of any home or business of negativity and evil intent or “vibes?  This can also be used to cleanse your magickal tools or in a plastic spray bottle for quick clean ups and cleansings. (the size of this recipe has been scaled back to a smaller portion for the purpose of this class,  if you want the full size recipe which makes more than a half gallon please let me know)

Supplies:

  • 1 pint of 90 proof alcohol (vodka can be used ;)
  • 1/2 cup spring water
  • 1/4 tablespoon squeezed lemon juice
  • 3 drops protection oil

Directions:

Ideally this is created during a full or waxing moon but can be done at anytime it is needed.

Gather your ingredients and bring them all together in a working area.

Mix the ingredients together in bucket if you are going to mop with it (if you are going to clean counters etc with it mix in a bowl) while visualizing the cleansing and protecting of your home or office with a brilliant white-purple light filling every aspect of your potion.

When you have completed this potion by the light of the moon, sweep your floors and visualize the removal of any negativity with each pass of the broom.  Mop your floors with the solution visualizing the protection of your home and the destruction of any negativity remaining.

If any of the potion remains (or if you placed some to the side) you can wipe down your counters or place it in a spray bottle for use later.

Your homework:

Gather the ingredients and complete the potion mixture as listed above and report your results and any changes you have made to this to achieve your results

(Samples from previous Students)

Using the formula above from Silver Ravenwolf, I  mixed:
  • 1 pint of vodka
  • 1/2 cup spring water
  • 1/4 tablespoon squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 drops Lilac oil
  • 1 drop Sage oil

I used it on ceramic tile flooring and cleaning-wise, it seemed to work fine. Our grout is dark so I don't know if there would be a problem if using it on white grout. Magickal-wise, I can't report anything different but then, I was not in a position that a protection potion was needed at this time. Right now, I just have the belief that it is working.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Using the recipe provided as  a guideline a created the following recipe for my floor and everything protection wash. Since Protection comes under the Element of Fire, I used oils that correspond with Fire. I used Geranium and Rosemary.

Protection Wash
  • 2 drops Geranium
  • 1 drop Rosemary
  • 1 pint of vodka
  • 1/2 cup spring water
  • 1/4 tablespoon squeezed lemon juice

I prepared it and used it during the Full Moon, just before doing my ritual and I can say that I felt empowered and protected, so much so that what I had left over, I empowered with the power of our Lovely Moon Goddess, to send to my son who is in the army. Blessed Be!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Using the recipe above in part 4.2 I used Rose Germanium, Lavendar and Patchouli
The combination was a pierceingly sweet, refreshing and uplifting, calming. The patchouli is used for getting rid of negativity.

  • 3 Drops  Rose Geranium
  • 2 Drops Lavendar
  • 1 Drops of Patchouli
  • 1 pint of vodka
  • 1/2 cup spring water
  • 1/4 tablespoon squeezed lemon juice

I prepared it especially for the Full Moon Rite last night.  I used it prior to ritual to cleanse and purify my sacred space. I chose these because of the healing quality as well, As I chose my azurite last night. I used less of the patchouli as it is more of a earthy musky and powerful potent.  I still have some left and will use it again. for other protection, healing and uplifting and banishing negativity.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I am using vodka (I have some left over from making a hair tonic) and well water, with the juice of half a lemon, and for protection, physical strength  and courage I have added 3 drops nutmeg, 2 rose greanium, and 2 tangerine. The scents are warming, just what is needed in time for the next storm!
Blessed Be

I just have to tell you that I cleaned my house with this potionn, and mopped the floors with it. It smelled really great, and the rooms were immediately lighter and warmer, but the best thing is that my very hostile and aggressive neighbor came up to me today, smiling, pleasant and courteous. That is  more than a minor miracle. i'm keeping this recepie!
Blessed Be,

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Part Two: Create your own potion

The formula for your success in creating and working potion magick is quite simple.  It is found within you, with love and trust in your heart.

When you are looking for creating a potion there are several items factored into the recipe.

What type of potion are you making?

There are a couple basic types of potions.

·        Potion which can be used for physical cleansing.  For this type of potion you will need a cleansing agent.  In our Cleansing and Protection potion you are using the alcohol and the lemon as your cleansing agents

·        A potion which will be used to symbolically cleanse, heal or protect.  This type of potion generally uses water, herbs and oils to reinforce the magickal intent created by you.

What is your intent?

Your intent needs to be focused upon and visualized while you mix your potion and make use of it through simple ritual like actions.

What are your ingredients?

Know your ingredients.  Never use cleansing agents, herbs, oils that you are unfamiliar with.  Never mix ingredients with which you are unsure of the chemical reactions.  Research your ingredients and their reactions before mixing.

What materials are needed?

Know what kind of materials you will use to mix your potion in, with, store in, and apply with.  A good rule of thumb is to mix in glass or metal.  Using plastic buckets when creating a potion for mopping.  Store in containers which will not be used for anything else.  Make small enough quantities that it will not have the opportunity to go rancid.

Will this serve as a cleansing agent?

If you are creating a potion which will serve a dual purpose of magickal cleanser, protector and a physical cleanser, know what kinds of soaps, natural chemicals, household chemicals can be safely mixed together.

This point is very important and bears this second reminder to know your ingredients well before mixing them together.  There are resources all over the internet and in bookstores to find out what can be mixed and what cannot be safely mixed.

Your Homework:

Create a Potion for healing/inner peace and carry out the use of the potion.  Post your results in this thread and write them in your herbal Grimoire

I am trying to go after the potion that symbolically heals and permeates a room for the intent of healing:

  • 2 Heaping Tablespoons of dried Peppermint
  • 2 cups of Spring Water
  • 3 drops Juniper oil

Mix altogether in 1 1/2 quart pan, heat on stove and allow to simmer slowly. Add water as needed. Can be used within an electric potpourri pot as well.

FaerieKat: Can we also use a massage oil as a healing/inner peace potion?  If we can:

  • 1 drop Patchouli Oil (Love)
  • 2 drops Carnation Oil (Protection, Healing)
  • 2 Tablespoons of Grapeseed Oil

Used as a massage oil, Grapeseed is great. This combo smells like Old Spice! My husband really liked it....the smell that is! Well....and the backrub, too
