How are you doing with devotions? Any tips on someone like me who's sucking at putting them into my routine? I'd really like to just spend a good solid 15 mins reading my bible, then praying and reflecting. I like the idea of reading first thing in the morning cause if I did it right before bed, I'd probably forget it the next day. Hope you're doing well! |

Well, I have not been doing too well in the last couple of weeks since Clint has gone to nights. I definitely would recommend first thing in the morning, that is what works best for me. I get tired when I read at night. It might not for you though. Pick a time that is quiet and you are not likely to be disturbed. That is my problem now. I usually get up before the kids and after dh has left for work but now that he is on nights he comes home and wants to talk, or play on the computer or what not during "my time". So, I think I will try to do it during quiet time, but then I so often have things to do during that time. I don't know what I am going to do. So, if you can, just set your alarm a little earlier and do it while the rest of the house is quiet and asleep. You really will come to think of it as your favorite time of the day. Really early in the morning is just the most peaceful time. The whole world is quieter. The neighbors are sleeping, fewer cars on the road. It is just a great time. Maybe when it gets a little warmer, you can take your Bible outside and read on the porch or under a tree. Don't forget, that part of devoting yourself, is also allowing "quiet" time and really LISTEN. Stop reading, and just listen. Ok, that might be more than you wanted so I will shut up now, I hope you are able to get it worked into your routine, and I hope I can find a way to not get annoyed that dh is interrupting mine. |

Thanks, Jac :) I guess part of my problem is that I dont' feel like there is a 'calm' space in my house. We don't have a porch but we have a covered deck that overlooks our stinky backyard (our neighbours have compost so that's all I can smell) and it's just not very relaxing back there.) Really, I should probably just change my way of thinking rather than thinking of everything as being blah. I hope you can figure out a time to do yours! That would mess me up too! Ahh, I hardly did anything. Delaney just ended up falling asleep which threw a wrench in my plans but I was also tired. So, I'm goign to head to bed before I start snacking on things even though there's dishes in the sink and lots of things that need to be picked up. I did 10 mins more of exercise (bike and orbitrek) and got some envelopes ready to mail stuff. |

Sara, what time does the rest of your family wake up? I know it seems hard, but if you can get up before the rest of them, you can make anywhere a calm place. At our old house, I used the bathroom, It was huge and had a little step that just worked out really well. Here I just use the kitchen table. I need to finish getting my craft room organized so I can use that. The point is, that you can make anyplace calm, Just pick a corner somewhere and make it your own. |
