nervous about a nerve test today (no pun intended). i'm expecting pain.  they are going to shock the nerves in my legs.

we had a very satisfying and pleasant weekend.  the kids had a sleepover friday night - their friend alec came over and we made homemade pizza and scott & i watched a movie while they played downstairs.  funny how i'm cooking things that require way more dishes now that we have no dishwasher!

saturday i made a list and put it out for everyone to work on but with no real expectations.  then i went to buy halloween costume stuff and scott said while i was gone the kids ran upstairs right away and did their whole lists so if i got back early i'd be surprised.  he did a few things on it too - he didn't notice the first half of the cleaning portion of the list because it was with the kids' lists or he probably would have done more.

i was out for 3 hours though - frustrating shopping for pieces of the costumes.  in pouring down rain.  i ended up missing about 3-4 pieces but i've figured out substitutes.  scott wanted to order chinese when i got home but we had spaghetti so i was proud of that.  and we were more inclined to stay active after spaghetti than if we'd ordered dinner because for some reason when we get takeout that's a signal to lay around and watch a movie or something and the night is officially over.

we were supposed to go to an outside scout halloween thing at the state park but it was canceled so we asked my sister if she wanted to come and carve pumpkins here.  she ended up not coming but knowing she might got me to get the bathrooms done and rescue what had been messed up in the kitchen and dining room.  it also inspired me to try to find something else fun to do to keep all 4 kids occupied and happy so even when her two didn't come, i was ready to bake and decorate cookies with the kids.  my MIL had left a halloween cookie kit here so it was easy.  omg they tasted so bad tho!  the kids think they're good but they made my tongue go numb.  it was very nice to be inside in a straight house all together carving pumpkins and making cookies so it was a really nice evening.  and we  put the kids to bed before there was any fighting or melt-downs because we had plans for sunday that they wanted to do - go to my mom's to play with cousins - so they went to bed at a decent time and scott and i were able to watch part of another movie after we paper-mache'd the alien head of braeden's costume.

sunday i had to get up to take chane to sell bon-ton booklets and i worked on planning my den meeting while we were there.  there's no meeting this week but scott and i are trying to pretend there is and have our meetings ready by tonight so that next monday we won't be so rushed.  i worked on it a lot friday and finished up the planning part yesterday - now i just have to do the "gathering" part of all the materials and write down my lecture on positive attitude which is what i have to talk about.

we went right from the bon-ton to my mom's after putting another layer of paper mache' on the alien.  i hadn't planned dinner for sunday since my parents said to come for dinner but then they said dinner at noon!  which got us moving and ready so that was good and also out of there by 5 - i snagged a bunch of leftovers and with other leftovers from the fridge put everything out on the island and the kids picked dinner from that.  scott was stuffed already.  i almost ordered food out of habit but the kids seemed very content with leftovers - they were hunched over various tupperware containers with their forks and thought it was fun.  whatever!  braeden's "leftovers" were steamed shrimp so he was ecstatic (steamed shrimp and leftover spinach so he ate way healthier than if i'd ordered chinese or pizza) and chane ate ton of baked beans so kind of a snacky dinner, as you would say sara!

and we got the alien head its final coat of paper mache and before we put the kids to bed it was dry enough for me to test the paint - of course it doesn't cover the newsprint -why do costume instructions and craft instructions always say "paint with acrylic paint" or "spray paint" as though it will cover newsprint or the writing on cardboard boxes when it never does???  luckily i have a tiny thing of model primer leftover from the pinewood derby cars that is working.  i'm experienced now! :-)

so a very nice, productive but fun and family-oriented weekend where everyone got alone and chane didn't throw any fits (which is probably what made it all so nice because it's so rare!).  actually he threw a huge one friday night but after that he was okay.  i feel like we kept the house mostly good, got a lot of fun things done that needed to be done for halloween, good headway on the costumes which don't have to be done until tomorrow and i think i have a handle on them, everyone got along, i got a lot of scouts stuff done with having the meeting planned and i also sent achievements letters to the parents with a list of what each scout has accomplished so they can be signed off in their books (something i was procrastinating on) and a lot of time alone with scott etc etc.  we didn't even get up all that early either day but i guess because we didn't lay around and kept relatively busy it felt more productive than usual but also laid back.

did you get any house stuff done, sara?

i need to make a list for today and also type in my scout stuff that's all just written in noteboks.  neither scott nor i could sleep much last night which kind of sucked - we gave up around midnight and turned the tv back on 'til about 1 and then tried some more.  so i'm really tired but i promised the kids a family game night tonight and we've been trying to work things to make sure we have a good family night and i need to make sure there's nothing else pressing tonight that will distract me.  i also want to take them to the library after school.  my friends and sister are coming for trick-or-treat night tomorrow night so i need to have things relatively clean by then and the costumes made and i want to have beef stew ready because that's kind of traditional to get the veggies into the kids before they fill up on candy plus it's crockpot and easy - but it needs to be started tonight because i like it to cook for about 20 hours.

have to leave here in 20 minutes - list time!

i have primer all over my left hand where i had to hold the balloon while painting it.  you know, other people do this stuff and don't make the messes i do! :-)  i also primed their snow boots. they are yugi-oh (they are not into yugi-oh but they were brand new for $3 at a yard sale one year so that is what they've had for the past 3 years!).  i primered over the cartoon and then hope to paint them black to match the rest of the boot and then write NASA on them.  we'll see.

my nerve study wasn't so bad.  it was painful but not unbearable.  he had to shock the nerves and then went back and put a needle in my muscles that he said would let him 'see" the muscles - i'm not sure how.  it was 12 different places.  we talked the entire time while he did it about his kids and my kids.

i went shopping - the nerve study was quicker than i thought it would be.  i was thinking i had extra time but realized when i got home that i really do have a lot to do before i get the kids if we're going right to the library and then having a nice night with no "to dos" looming.  better get my list updated

How did the nerve test go, Joni?

Well, we are officially in the new house. I wouldn't say moved in as a good portion of our stuff is still at the old house. augh But, the big furniture is all here! yay! And, I have all appliances up and running though today will be the first test with the gas dryer... we ended up using our other 3 appliances cause their fridge and stove SUCKED.

I'd have to say, after this move, I do not want to move in a VERY long time. If we ever move, it will be to a house that I KNOW they've kept it clean. We actually may try to talk to the real estate lawyer because of all the issues we've had with this house... I have a hard time believing that they didn't have to disclose a leaking roof due to bad shingles (which they didn't repair), weeping tile issue which leaks in the spring into the basement, the mold... now, the first 2 major things, we heard that from our neighbour across the way. Sooo, we haven't experienced it though I can see painted water damage or mold or something 'off' where he said the water came in and caused mold. We got a house inspection... why weren't we told any of this!? He did point out the 'valley' of the roof looked weaker than it should be as it's only 11 years old. But, he did't see obvious water damage?! (the basement shower is awful and it's now totally obvious to us that it leaked and likely has lots of fun stuff growing under it and possibly in the drywall. You can totally smell the moisture in the basmeent and the kitchen.

Soo, we are replacing the counter... yeah, another expense but knowing that it's there while I'm making supper icks me out. Plus, the fact that I can smell mold tells me this needs to be taken care of ASAP. Sure, we could bleach the heck out of it but I don't think that's acceptable with the state it's in.

Our move and all that went rougher than planned. But, we know by the end of this week, we'll be done with the rental house. I'm hoping I'll have time to clean it out for them but honestly, at this point, if I'm unable to and would have to bust my butt, staying up super late Thurs. night to do so, it's not worth it to me. They are cleaning the carpets and likely will do cleaning up themselves anyways.

Dh has the day off work (though he went in for the morning to deal with stuff as that was their only request.) So, he's putting together beds, got my washer up and running (yay! I have dirty laundry coming out of my butt) and is hoping to bring over a good chunk of stuff from the old stuff. I have about an hour and a half left before I have to leave in the freezing cold, windy weather (we actually had some snow coming down this morning!) Timmy is sleeping on my lap which is why I'm on the computer... so I could rock him to sleep. So, I better go help.

Oh yeah, I won't even mention how much we've eaten out this past week... augh. And then today, dh brings home lunch for me an dhim and Timmy. augh! I gotta work on that.... it's so tempting still because my freezer and some of my kitchen stuff is still at the old house plus my kitchen is disaster zone with some cupboards still needing painting and set up. augh But, I have 2 containers of BLT soup out. I have bread too cause I don't think that will fill us up enough since no one is really big soup eaters so maybe I'll make grilled cheese or meat sandwiches as well.

My butt's falling asleep! Off I go!

sara, take a deep breath and stop being perfectionist about eating out!  it's okay.  it's temporary.  please please stop trying to stress about it.  we all go thru periods where we have to let things go and if there's ever a time in your life where spending a little money eating out is okay, this is it - two small kids, a toddler, and a baby on the way while moving and doing daycare and trying to clean up the old house and dealing with all the unexpected things at the new house.  you are not going crazy with eating out - you're not headed to restaurants every night.  if you're worried about veggies and fruit and stuff, just have some things like that around for snacks but if the kids get more junk than they're used to right now they'll survive.

sorry to hear about all the issues with the house.  if the neighbors knew about some of them, that means the people who owned it knew.  and here, at least, you have to have full disclosure when you sell a house - absolutely anything bad you know about that's not right in front of the buyer has to be written out and disclosed or the old owners can be sued.  don't try to take care of it yourself - get a lawyer.  i know it's a pain but think of when you sell the house down the road (you may end up doing it even though you think you'll be in it for a long time) - YOU have to disclose all this stuff when you sell it so it's not fair that the old owners didn't.

i'm kind of stressed here.  i still haven't finished the costumes.  this is one of the harder costumes i've made because it's mechanical.  most of my costumes are hard but i'm making an alien kidnapping an astronaut for braeden and not only does it need to look right but he's going to have a harness, fake legs in front, and a control board on the front of his shirt and all of that needs to be comfortable and not fall off when he's walking.  and most of it i'll have to do last minute because he needs to be in it for me to finish it.

we woke up to pouring down rain and high winds.  right now it's just high winds.  the kids were disappointed - braeden went to school with red eyes from crying.  i hope we can do trick-or-treat tonite - it really sucks that our new scout pack has no halloween party.  this will be their only chance to wear their costumes otherwise.  and braeden's afraid that even if the rain isn't so bad we can't go that it will ruin his paper mache alien head.  ahhhh.

i'm also a little down because both my friends decided not to come.  the one said she just didn't feel like driving.  it's a little hurtful, not because i'm resentful about that but it says to me it's just not worth it to come here which makes me think that the fun i have with them trick-or-treating isnt' shared by them.  oh well - i know that whenever they have a party i am always hopeful we have something important going on so i can say no and not drive down.  it's just that she sounded like she wanted to come and then yesterday said nah, no thanks.  the other one has a kid braeden's age that's mean and obnoxious - he has an audition for an orchestra tonight so i don't feel as bad about them not coming.  scott hates her kid - he always has something mean to say about our homemade costumes (his mom spends a fortune on the best costumes you can get) so he's thrilled they're not coming. hopefully my sister can still come.

hopefully scott will get home at a decent time and help me figure out how to get the legs of braeden's costume to stick straight out like i want.  the instructions have them just limply hanging but i put coat hangers in to give them shape and look like the astronaut is struggling against the alien but now i can't figure out how to get them to not just hang down with their shape but instead stick out.

    i'm making myself nuts!

Wow, that costume sounds VERY detailed! I hope it turns out exactly like you hoped!

We do trick or treating on Hallowe'en here and so far, all I know is that they both want to be Hannah Montana. We have wigs and I'll do sparkly make-up for them but what else will they be wearing? Good question... I have a possibility for Em but no clue for Delaney. Shoot, and she will be dressing up tomorrow at school!!! AHHH I guess a trip to Value Village is in order tonight. Me and all 3 kids. yippee.

I'm really dragging today. I skipped a dose of my medicine. Besides feeling kinda slow and tired, I didn't start feeling dizzy until the time I'd have to take my dose for today (which I did.) So, that's awesome!! I'm going to try weaning off of this though the way I'm feeling right now is blah. Thankfully, my head isn't spinning and I'm not puking like I was about a month ago when I tried. The bad thing is though I put my head down on my bed to snuggle up with Winnie and ended up falling asleep. Yikes. This was at 11am today.

My house is trashed... because my kitchen isn't done, I can't put away everything nor do I know where to put it all away. Timmy spilled Winnie's food and there's crumbs everywhere. augh I'm stressed about the old house. We have so much more to move out of there PLUS clean.

My goal for tonight is to do a quick pancake and cut up apples supper. Then we'll cut up pumpkins. Dh has volleyball so after that, he'll likely have to leave. Then me and the kids will head to get milk and value village, looking for Hannah Montana-ish outfits. After that, I'm hoping to go to the old house, bring down the odds and ends that are left upstairs and put them in the living room. I'll have to take some things off the walls. Then I'm going to wipe walls quickly, clean the bathroom and vacuum the carpet. So, the upstairs will be DONE! I'm hoping I can do that quickly with the help of the girls so then I can try to move some more stuff from the basement up to the living room. I'm hoping to bring a small-ish load over of kitchen stuff and food. Yikes, hopefully I'll get this all done.

I'm definitely going to talk with a lawyer about the hosue stuff. This is crazy. augh

Aw man, I hope the weather clears up for you guys! We had about an inch of snow on the ground! It's pretty much melted here but it's chilly. That sucks about your friends not coming :( I hope you guys still have a blast!!

I have about a 1/2 hr before I have to head out the door so going to try to do a quick tidy of my main floor, maybe take a tylenol and get the table set up for snack. Clementines and pretzels but my table is pushed into the corner and has some papers on it.

Hope you're not stressing out and having a good day, Joni! I'll try to check in later tonight or tomorrow with an update on how my plan for tonight goes. We can't find our tv rabbit ears so I haven't been able to plop myself in front of the tv so I'm getting a little more done at night but now that th ecomputer is up and running, I may find myself down here tonight...
