Come with me... We're gliding silently along through mixed forest. The trail is serpentine and lovely, the ride is easy, nice dogsled, nice team out in front. It's forenoon of a December day. As we approach a previous overflow, the flood plain thick with alder growth, we see mini ice bergs, scattered about through the woods, on both sides of the trail; maybe an acre's worth. SUDDENLY, the sun shows his face, and INSTANTLY, the woods all 'round us are filled with rainbows, arcing in all directions, beginning and ending at these ice chunks in the snow. We slide under rainbows, through rainbows, past rainbows; mouths agape. This really happened to me. I could hardly wait for the return trip, but, of course, the sun ray's angles differed and my enchanted wood was dismal, dead and gray. I suddenly noticed the cold. star |
