He had been sitting on his porch. It was around three in the morning, and he was wearing nothing but a pair of shorts. He had been staring at the stars, he was picking out constellations and recalling their stories. It was warm and there was a slight breeze that came and went, as if waves of air were crashing into to a shore leaf filled trees. He decided to go for a walk.

He was walking down the road, staring at the stars and listening to the wind. He noticed there was a car passing but he paid it no attention. Until it turned around, and he found himself in the all too familiar spotlight of a police car. He sighed as he stopped and turned, knowing it could never turn out well.

"Every thing all right?" Was the loud voice coming from behind the spotlight.

He could make out the figure of an officer, standing behind the open door of the patrol car. There was another officer in the car, using the radio.

"Yes, every thing is fine, thank you. What can I do for ya?"

"You can start with your name."

"Am I doing something illegal?"

"Well, what are you doing out here at three a.m. with no shirt or shoes?"

"Just going for a walk. Am I violating some public dress code?"

"We're not the fashion police. We just thought you looked a little suspicious."

"Well if I was up to something suspicious, I probably would have brought some shoes." He laughed as said this, and took a step toward the car.

Immediately the officer's hand went to his gun. "You just stay right where you are! Let me see some identification!"

Now he stepped back, and he wondered why the cops always assumed he was going to attack them. He still had some tact in him however, he decided to try and diffuse the cops fear. He knew that if they learned his name, he would be going to jail.

"Listen sir, I live just around the corner, I was out on my porch and just decided to go for a walk. I'm not any kind of threat."

The second officer was getting out of the car, as he stood up behind his door he drew out his night stick. "Is he resisting you?" He asked the first officer.

"He won't give me a name or an I.D. He's acting nervous and his pupils are dilated."

He decided to speak up, these cops were making a false assumption.

"I am not nervous, just a bit agitated that he has his hand on his weapon, and you have yours in your hand. My eyes are dilated because I have been staring into a spotlight for more than a minute now. It seems like you guys are trying to pick a fight with me or something."

"We are out here to protect." Said the second cop, as he slid his nightstick into its sheath and stepped out from behind the door. "When you see a guy walking the streets at this time he is usually up to something."

He laughed just a bit, trying to lighten mood a bit more. He knew that could reason with this one, so he went for the gold. "Like I said, if I was up to something I would be armed with more than just my shorts. I was sitting on the porch, I saw Orion on the tip of the mountains there," he pointed to the constellation, "and remembering that his arrow points to the red eye of Taurus I tried to find it. The apartments across the street were blocking my view so I walked out to the main road. It was too bright on the corner so I started walking down. I was following the arrows direction across the sky, but I didn't make it far before you guys decided to get all Kojack on me. Anyway, I think the bull is too low, he'll be behind the Oquir Mountains probably."

"Oh wow," said the first cop, still from behind his door, "he's high on something."

"Relax," the second cop said, "I know what he's talking about." He was coming increasingly closer to his detainee. "Don't worry dude, we got guys out there keeping an eye on that bull, he aint comin to town. Anyway, your buddy up there on top of the mountain has an arrow pointed right at it. Everything is gonna be fine."

He was a bit stunned, here he had perfectly explained himself, and these stupid cops thought he was some crazy druggie. The second officer was slowly approaching him, repeating his last sentence. The first one now had his gun drawn and pointed at him. Now he was getting a bit scared, and bit upset, he had only a few seconds to react to this. If that cop tried to grab him, he would be forced to defend himself.

"Wait!" He yelled at the tops of his lungs, stopping the approaching cop in his tracks. "You guys are fucking idiots! I am not talking about some guy on the mountain, or any scary bull! I am talking about the stars," he spoke the next word very slowly, "constellations." He had their attention, he lowered his tone and spoke a bit more calmly. "Orion, is the (again slowly) constellation over there by the tip of lone peak. Those 3 bright stars are his belt, the ones crossing it are his sword. Above that and to the right, the 3 stars there, form the curve of his bow. You can see line of his arrow, right through the center of his bow. If you follow that direction across sky, until you find a red star, that star is in the (again) constellation of Taurus, the bull. It is his red eye. I am not on drugs, I'm just out here staring at the stars. You guys have it all wrong."

The second cop was standing still, but he looked more at ease. The first was still pointing his gun. Neither of them was speaking, so he decided to continue.

"Listen, my house is just around the corner, I'm just going to go home now, and I don't need any protection." He pointed to the second cop, "You have enough sense to know what I am talking about, you went to college." He pointed to the first cop, "You are too scared to even come out from behind that spotlight, you have your gun pointed at an unarmed and innocent man who was just out for a walk. That makes YOU the bad guy. If you want to protect me than put that thing away, YOU are the only danger to me right now."

The cop raised his gun, but he did not put it away.

The second cop finally decided to say something. "How did you know I went to college?"

"I saw your pin on your lapel, pi kappa lambda, you going to law school?"

"Yup, criminal law."

"Well, you're up to your ass in it out here. So, is your partner gonna shoot me, or can I go back home and get some shoes."

"Ya, go ahead. Leave him alone Jeff, he's not one of the bad guys."

"Ya ought to think about a desk job Jeff." He spoke to him while passing by on the other side of the car. "We'd all be a little safer."
