today I was muddling around wondering what the hell should be happening next in my life when I realized something...I have learned so much about houses from living here! It makes total sense but I never knew that your yard, landscaping whatever should slop away from your foundation...by at least 10%...I never knew there were different kinds of foundations even...
I've read tons of remodeling tips,  read all about caulking and the different types used for different things, my limited knowledge of tools has been refreshed...I can replace a whole damn toilet now not just the insides of it...I understand the different types of paint and what is best for what...and gutters....now I just thought they kept the rain off the side of your house! Oh hell no...they protect your foundation and you need to make sure they lead off down the downspout and drain somewhere away from the foundation...
all of this knowledge and the more I am sure I will learn is gonna become indespensable when I buy my own home! HA! I knew there was a reason for all of this!

Cool stuff you are learning there, Chemy - I love being a home owner ~ most of the time!

that's where we all started. Ask questions and listen to the answers.

All kinds of shit went wrong w/the crib I'm in now and I didn't learn anything other than the fact it's all very expensive and I didn't have no handymans around at the time to give me a break on cost so I went broke. I had to replace the central air, furnance, roof, gutters, remodeled my bathroom in our room, replaced all the carpeting throughout the house, put new wood floors in the kitchen, had to replace the wall oven and of course the stove...and now the  cement in the back patio is sinking and this is gonna cost googads of money. You're way better off doing your own work, but I'm not as knowledgeable of these things as you are Chemy. So you go girl!

~ Im with Lynn... you go girl... Theres alot said for doing your own work, besides saving money. I have a friend who buys cheap homes, and then fixs them and resells them for a profit. That might be something you could do, depending on what needs to done to a house.

that reminds me of the leak
we had back of the house
in the basement

we had to manually dig
a trench round the back
dig out the old weeping
tile

put in new with cheesecloth
and then install a filter system
which entailed, two layers of
different sized stones

oh but before we did that
we had to prepare the walls
and cracks with tar and mortar

man.........what  a lesson I'll never
forget!
lol

good luck, hon

To quote the greatest philosophers of our time, " There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be..."
This moves has been so good for you Chemy. Everything I have read says that this is a place you can be happy and grow.
