Yes, I'm doing high school at the moment - the alternative high school.  By a strange twist of events, I decided I had no choice but to leave my middle school.  My admin told us last May that starting this fall we would have to teach the test and nothing else and they would come inspect our rooms to make sure we were doing just that - how ridiculous is that?  After 17 years I tell ya, 17 years.....geesh and not a tired bone in my body and not a tired lesson plan in my cabinets.  Five published books and lots of happy, happy kids and parents.

People in the district are still pretty much in shock that I actually left....and the worst part is I don't like doing the high school bit - grrrrrrrr.  The kids are mean and nasty and slovenly and have pretty ugly dispositions.....unlike my 7th and 8th grade babies who are still enthused about life, can still be turned on, and made my days fun, fun, fun.....my days are boring now.

Sooo, when the state closes my middle school next year for not making AYP, I will be first in line to take a job there as they restructure - I'll show em how to get kids to pass a test without teaching the test.....by the way, my last year's scores were stellar and I worked with the lowest and the highest kids in the school both - both sets of scores were stellar......and right after I left I found out I was elected to the middle level steering committee for the National Council of Teachers of English - it's a four year term - my superintendent is thrilled even though I left the mid school due to that problem.  I just don't know what has gotten into schools any more.  Sigh.

I also recently interviewed with the university for a job working with secondary ed students and master's degree students and managing secondary student teachers.  They are working something up for me to look at paywise as a professor and location wise (the university is 90 miles away, but there is a branch here).  Won't make that move until May though.  I can't leave kids hanging mid year

Anyhow, you know me - get me started on all this and I go nuts.....

I'm just glad there are still teachers like you with so much passion. The b.s. has taken the energy out of so many dedicated teachers.

I hope wherever you land is the right place for you.
